SALT OF THE EARTH AND LIGHT OF THE WORLD.
MATT. V. 13-15.
"Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour,
wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for no-
thing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill
cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it
under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto
all that are in the house."

FAITH, HOPE AND CHARITY.
QUINQUAGESIMA SUNDAY, AND ADMINISTRATION OF THE LORD'S supper.
1 COR. xiii. 13.
"Now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest
SERMON IX.
JUSTIFICATION.
JAMES ii. 20-24.
"Wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is
dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when
he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how
faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made
perfect? And the Scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham
believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness:
and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by
works a man is justified, and not by faith only."

THE LOVE OF GOD.
EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY.
MATT. xxii. 37, 38.
"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with
all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great
commandment."
SERMON XI.
THE LOVE OF OUR NEIGHBOUR.
THIRTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY.
MATT. xxii. 39.
"Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
140
155
"Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy
neighbour and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love
your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that
hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you and
persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father
which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil
and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the un-
just. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye?
do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your
brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the
publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father
which is in heaven is perfect."
SERMON XIV.
CHRISTIAN FORGIVENESS.
TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY.
MATT. Xviii. 21, 22.
"Then came Peter to him and said, Lord, how oft shall my
brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?
Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times;
but until seventy times seven."

CREEDS.
TRINITY SUNDAY.
ACTS viii. 36, 37.
"The Eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to
be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine

Jesus Christ is the Son of God."

THE CHRISTIAN ARMOUR.

EPH. vi. 13.
"Take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able
to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”

SERMON XVII.
THE LORD'S PRAYER.
LUKE Xi. 1.
"And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place,
when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach
us to pray, as John also taught his disciples."

SERMON XVIII.
THE MANNA.
ROGATION SUNDAY.
DEUT. viii. 3.
"The Lord thy God humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger,
and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did
thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man
doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth
out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live."

SERMON XIX.
THE TRANSFIGURATION.
2 PET. i. 16-18.
"We have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made
known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus
Christ, but were eye-witnesses of his majesty. For he received
from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such
a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son,
in whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from
heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount." 273
"And the Lord commended the unjust steward, because he had
done wisely; for the children of this world are in their genera-
tion wiser than the children of light. And I say unto you,
Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness,
that when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habi-
tations."
