deal of Money Expended Yearly att the Mickle Turn Jury Dinners To retrench the same and the sooner to enable this Corporacon to pay their said Debts Itt is therefore Ordered That for the future The Corporacion doe Allow only the MickleTurn Jury Men two Shillings apiece each Day they Walk and 5 the two Pinders and Woodwards who shall Attend them to be Allowed only twelve pence apiece on the same dayes This Allowance to be to Defray the Charges of their Dinners and other Expences on those Occasions And that the said Jury doe Dine att St Ann's Well as usuall And 'tis further Ordered That neither the Mayor 10 Aldermen or any other persons but the said Jury and Servants doe Dine att the Corporacions Charge. 3481 fo. 4.

1717. Wednesday October 23.

Sale of Mansell Park.-Memorandum this Day Itt was agreed That Mansell Parke be sold to the best Purchaser towards paying the Corporacions Debts And Monday the fourth Day of 15 November next is appointed for the Day of sale And Itt is hereby Ordered That Publick Notice be given thereof and that every Member of the Hall doe make what Enquiry they possibly can to find out Chapmen in order that the same may be sold without respect of persons to him or her who will give most. 3481 fo. 5. 20

Allotment of Burgess part.-Memorandum this day late Widdow Wards Burgesse part lying in Flowers Closes was Allotted to Mr Francis Haynes att the old Rent Chamberland 12d paid in earnest by Mr Jonathan Trueman And Memorandum Itt is ordered That altho' the Corporacion have Allotted the said Mr Haynes a 25 Burgesse part yet the same is done in respect to his having lived handsomely in the Town tho' now he is in meaner Circumstances and not on the account of his having a right to the same by his being a due Burgesse. 3481 fo. 5.

Disposal of rubbish.—Ordered That for the future all persons 30 doe carry their Rammell to the Swan Pool or in case they lay itt any where else to the Detriment of the Corporacion Wasts or the Highways That the person or persons soe offending be severely punished as the Law directs. 3481 fo. 6.

1717. Monday November 4.

Sale of Mansell Park.-Memorandum this Day Itt was 35 Agreed between the Mayor and Burgesses of the said Town of

Nottingham of the one part and Thomas Moreley of South Wingfield Wiremill in the County of Derby Gentleman of the other part That the said Mayor and Burgesses shall att the proper Costs and Charges of the said Thomas Moreley on or 5 before the Twenty fourth Day of December next ensuing the Date hereof well and sufficiently Convey and Assure unto the said Thomas Moreley his Heires and Assignes or to such other person or persons his her or their Heires and Assignes as the said Thomas Moreley shall nominate and appoint All That their Inclosed 10 Piece of ground lying and being within the Parish of Mugginton in the County of Derby with the Appurtenances commonly called Mansell Parke alias Manshall Parke containing by estimacion Three Hundred Thirty and Six Acres be the same more or lesse free from all Incumbrances except the Lease now in being and the chief Rent 15 by such Conveyances and Assurances in the Law of the said Thomas Moreley his Heires or Assignes or his or their Councell learned in the Law shall reasonably devise advise and require In consideration whereof the said Thomas Moreley his Heires or Assignes shall Pay or cause to be paid to the said Mayor and Burgesses their Successors 20 or Assignes the Summe of Three and Twenty Hundred and Eighty pounds att the Sealing and Executing the said Conveyances.1 Thomas Trigge Mayor Thomas Morley.

Appointment of new Scavenger.-Ordered That Mr Noon Mr Sweetaple and Mr Newton doe hyre persons to cleanse the Streets in the room of Edward Wright the Scavenger who neglects the same And that the Chamberlains doe pay the persons so hyred by them And the like Order for Mr Alderman Green and Mr 30 Jackson about the Weeke-Day Crosse.

1717. Friday December 6.

The Paving of the Streets.-Ordered That Mr Alderman Green Mr Alderman Pennell Mr George Firth, Mr William Noon and Mr Shepherd doe goe through the Streets of this Town and make particular remarks what proporcions thereof itt will be propper

and reasonable for the Inhabitants to Pave att their own Charge and how much the Corporacion shall be liable to Itt being resolved That for the future the Corporacion doe save as much as possible in the Article of Paving.

Ordered That Mr Alderman Barke, Mr Jackson, Mr Newton, 5 and the 2 Chamberlains be added to the Committee afore mencioned. 3481 fo. II.

1717-18. Friday March 14.

The Paving of the Market-place.-Ordered That the Markett place be Paved in such manner as the Chamberlains shall be Advised and think propper. 3481 fo. 15. 10

Disposal of Rubbish.—Ordered That Notice be given by the Common Cryer for the Inhabitants of this Town to carry their Rammell to Hockly and spread the same there in order to Levell the same. 3481 fo. 15a.

Enrolment of Apprentices.-Ordered that for the future no 15 person within this Town doe take any Apprentice but what shall be Inrolled before the Mayor and Town Clerke for the time being within two Months after he shall be bound Or in default thereof That every Apprentice which shall not be so Inrolled shall lose and forfeit his right to be made a Burgesse 20 of this Corporacion And that the Town-Clerke shall have for his attending the Mayor for that purpose and for every such Inrollment the summe of twelve pence to be paid by the Master. And tis further Ordered That every Master which shall not cause his Apprentice to be Inrolled within the time before specifyed shall in case he be 25 a Burgesse be Disfranchised for such his Neglect. 3481 fo. 16.

Purchase of Burgess right.-Memorandum this day Itt was Agreed That Thomas Roberts Felmonger shall be made a Burgesse of this Corporacion paying for the Purchase of his Freedom the Summe of £20 but in consideration he Marryed a Burgesses Widdow 30 he is to have £5 return'd him back again. 3481 fo. 16.

1718. Monday April 28.

Debtors delivered by Corporation.—Memorandum this day Itt was Agreed That the Earnest-Money in the Bagg (being 54s and 6d) be Applyed towards Discharging some persons out of Goal who are

1718. Friday May 9.

Toll house to be built at Trent Bridge.-Itt is this Day Ordered That the Bridgemasters doe Build a House att the TrentBridges for the Sherriffs-servant to live in and take Toll there so as they doe not lay out above ten pounds (besides having the Materials of a little old House in the Wood-Yard there) in Building the same the said Sherriffs and their Successors paying such a Yearly Rent to the Corporacion as shall be thought reasonable and be Ascertained when the same is built.

The Free School. The question being putt whether or no 15 another Master shall be enquired after to be Head-Master of the Freeschool in ye room of Mr Johnson (he being now under an Incapacity to manage the same) Itt was carryed in the Affirmative by the Majority of Votes And itt is hereby ordered That such enquiry be made accordingly. 3481 fo. 23.

1718. Monday June 16.

The Free School. Whereas Richard Johnson Clerk Master of the Free School of this said Town of Nottingham having all or most of the time he hath been Master thereof very much omitted and neglected to teach and instruct the Sons of the Burgesses of the said Town of Nottingham contrary to the 25 Intent and Purport of the Institution of the Founder of the School And whereas the said Richard Johnson for the space of three Months and upward hath been and now is Delirious and Non Compos Mentis Whereby he is become incapable of performing and executing the Office and Duty of the Master of 30 the said Free-School Wee therefore the Mayor Aldermen and Common Councell of the said Town of Nottingham with the Guardians of the said School whose Names are hereto sett pursuant to the Power and Authority vested in us in and by the Institution of the Founder of the said Freeschool for the reasons aforesaid doe

hereby Adjudge That the said Richard Johnson is unfitt and incapable of performing the office and Duty of the Schoolmaster of the said Freeschool And therefore for the reasons aforesaid Wee doe Order and Adjudge That the said Richard Johnson be and stand from henceforth absolutely removed and displaced from his 5 said office and Place of Schoolmaster of the said Freeschool And we doe hereby remove and displace him the said Richard Johnson accordingly.

The question being putt whether or no the Order above about Mr Johnson shall be Agreed to and Signed or not Itt was carryed 10 in the Affirmative by the Majority of Votes.

Short Hill and Hollow Stone.-Ordered That Mr Alderman Barke, Mr Roger Radfarth, Mr Sweetaple, Mr George Firth Mr John Huthwaite and Mr Chamberlain Smith doe view the Short 35 Hill and Hollowstone and report next Hall-day whether itt will be propper to make Stepps from the Hollow-stone way to the
