Pray pay Mr Thomas Conway the summe of Ten Shillings for 5 the use of a Room which the Soldiers' had when they kept a large Guard some time since And the same shall be allowd in your Accompts per Samuel Watkinson Mayor.

Withdrawal of Burgess part.-Memorandum this Day Mr John 10 Malins Burgesse part (by reason of his living above a Yeare out of Town) lying in Clayfield near Gossy-Close was Allotted to Joseph Smith Feltmaker att the old-Rent 12d paid in earnest by Mr Pennell. 3480 fo. 4a.

1716. Wednesday December 19.

The Fire Engine.-Ordered That the Chamberlains doe repaire 15 the Fire-Engine att the Corporacion Carge2 and afterwards Place itt in St Maryes Church to be ready on occasion. 3480 fo. 7a.

1716-17. Monday January 21.

Civic Entertainment.-Memorandum this Day by the Consent of the persons here present Itt was Agreed That the Chamberlains doe Disburse seaven pounds to be laid out on an Entertainment for 20 the Corporacion and the Officers now in Town to rejoyce for the safe Arrival of his Majesty King George from abroad into his Kingdom of Great-Britain and also five pounds for the Common Soldiers and Three pounds for the Artillery-Company to rejoyce on the like Occasion. 3480 fo. 10.

Navigation of the Derwent.--Memorandum this Day Itt was Agreed by the persons here present That they are willing the next Hall-Day an Authentick Order shall be made for this Corporacion to Contribute one hundred pounds towards opposing the

Thomas Hawksley, the Mayor, was

a Jacobite and the presence of a guard of

soldiers in the town points to a fear of serious disturbance.

Charge.

Bill lately ordered to be brought into the Honourable House of Commons for making the River Derwent in the County of Derby Navigable from passing into a Law by reason itt is apprehended if itt should passe the same will be of very Ill Consequence to this Town and Corporacion. 3480 fo. II. 5

Long Row. Ordered That Dominus Dodsley Mr Firth Mr Sweetaple, Mr Noon, Mr Pennell, Mr Alderman Collin and Mr Alderman Trigge doe sett out some Ground on the Long-Row for Mrs Willington to place Columns on for the House she is going to build there.

Burgess part.-Memorandum this Day Mrs Woods Burgesse part (by reason of her Inter Marriage with Mr Morris who is not a Burgess) was this Day Allotted to Thomas Smith Joyner Itt lying in East-Croft and is Chamber-Land and is to be att the old-Rent 12d paid in earnest by Mr J. Greaves. 3480 fo. 12a. 15 Trent Bridge.-Ordered That the same persons who are appointed to sett out ye Ground for Mrs Willington doe view an Arch of the Trent-Bridge which is said to be in Decay and report next Hall Day in what Condicion they find the same.

1717. Friday April 5.

Appointment of a Deputy Mayor.-Memorandum this Day Mr 25 Mayor Acquainted this House That he being for some time past in a bad State of Health is directed and thinks fitt to go to the Bath in order towards the Recovery thereof and that he has Appointed Mr Alderman Green to be Deputy Mayor in his Absence to which he desires the Concurrence and Approbacion of this House And they 30 doe hereby Consent and Agree to the same accordingly.

This probably refers to the rising of Thomas Forster and the Earl of Derwent

Mathew Hoyland and Robert Hoyes suspend because he thinks ye Deputy Mayor has no power to call an Hall.

William Drury suspends and protests against ye regularity of ye Hall because itt has not been made appear either by Charter or Prescripcion yt ye Deputy Mayor has a power to call an Hall.

1717. Wednesday April 24.

Sir Thomas White's Charity. Whereas Mr Deputy-Mayor this day produced a Letter he received from Mr Henry Cave Clerke 10 to the Trustees of Sir Thomas Whites Charity signifying That by Leases Dropping and Taxes altering the Charity-Rents are Improved since the last Decree in Chancery but yet doe not every Yeare raise a like Summe and therefore the Trustees propose That to doe Justice to all the Corporacions the yearly 15 Exceedings be kept for 5 Yeares and then Distributed Equally to all the 5 Corporacions. However itt appearing to this House by what Mr Thomas Wright of Coventry has now acquainted 'em That the said Trustees on behalf of the Poor of Coventry did in their Turn dispose of the whole Exceeding for that Yeare and that the Cor20 poracions of Northampton and Leicester are disposed to doe the like in their Turns Therefore this House does Agree That a Letter be sent to Mr Cave before named to Acquaint the said Trustees That our Corporacion are resolved to take and dispose of the Improvement of the said Rents which shall happen and arise in that Yeare for 25 which the Money becomes due to this Corporacion and are willing that Warwick doe the like in their Turn when all the Corporacions will have received a benefitt of the said Improved Rents tho' not equally alike After which this House thinks itt most proper That the Exceedings of the said Rents be reserved and Distributed as 30 the said Trustees propose. 3480 fo. 15.

Corporation property in London.-Ordered That Mr John Launder does receive the Corporacion Rents and Arrears of Rents due from their Tennants att London and transmitt the same to Mr George Firth to be applyed for the use of the School and Mr 35 Launder to have a reasonable Allowance for his trouble to be paid by this Corporacion. 3480 fo. 15a.

1717. Tuesday May 14.

Corporation Debts.-The question being putt whether or no this Corporacion shall Admitt any persons to purchase their Freedoms in order towards paying the Corporacions Debts Itt was Carryed in the Negative by the Majority of Votes.

3480 fo. 16а. The question being putt whether or no this Corporacion shall 5 sell one of their Shares in the Waterworks towards paying the Corporacions Debts. It was carryed in the Affirmative by the Majority of Votes. 3480 fo. 16a.

1717. Friday June 7.

Sale of Mansell Park to pay Corporation's Debts.—Memorandum this day 'twas Agreed That in order to pay the Corporacions 10 Debts Mansell-Parke be sold by this Corporacion to the best Bidder And the better to obtain a good price Itt is Ordered That publick Notice thereof be given in the Printed papers and otherwise. 3480 fo. 18.

Disfranchisement of a Burgess for disloyalty.—The question being 15 putt whether or no Mr Theodore Fosbrooke shall be Disfranchised from being a Burgesse of this Corporacion haveing been Convict of being Desaffected to his Majesty King George Itt was Carryed in the Affirmative by the Majority of Votes And he is hereby Disfranchised accordingly. 3480 fo. 18. 20

1717. Wednesday June 26.

Confirmation of Orders made during the Mayor's absence.—The question being putt whether or no the Order about Disfranchising Mr Theodore Fosbrooke (which was made in Mr Mayors absence) be now Confirm'd Itt was Carryed in the Affirmative by the Majority of Votes And the same is hereby Confirmed accordingly. 25 The question being putt whether or no all the other Orders made in Mr Mayors Absence shall be Confirmed Itt was Carryed in the Affirmative by Majority of Votes And the same is hereby Confirmed accordingly. 3480 fo. 21.

1717. Monday July 22.

Disfranchisement of a Councillor for disloyalty.-The question 30 being putt whether or no Mr William Greaves shall be removed from being one of the Senior Councellmen of the said Town of

Nottingham and be Disfranchised from being a Burgesse of this Corporacion for Obstinately refusing to attend severall Comon Halls when he was only Summoned and for being Disaffected to his present Majesty King George due proof being made Itt was 5 carryed in the Affirmative by the Majority of Votes And he is hereby removed and Disfranchised accordingly. 3480 fo. 24.
