I Amherst and Admiral Boscawen captured Louisburg on 26 July and thus cleared the way for the conquest of Canada in the following year.

Ordered and agreed that a New Lease for Twenty one Years be 5 made to Mr James Huthwait the Younger and Mr Robie Swann of the Messuages, Stainyard Wharf and other the Premisses with the Appurtenances at the Trent Bridges which are now in Lease to them and others at the Same Rent they now hold them at to Commence from the Expiration of the Present Lease. 3518 fo. 15.

Proposed bill for the improvement of certain roads.-Agreed Unanimously that the Chamberlains of this Corporation do pay to Mr John Egginton appointed to Sollicite a Proposed Bill for amending widening and keeping in repair the Road leading from Grantham to Nottingham Trent bridge and from Chappell bar near the West 15 End of the Town of Nottingham to Saint Marys Bridge near Derby the Sum of Twenty Pounds towards the Expenses of passing the Proposed Bill. 3518 fo. 16.

1759. Friday January 26.

Appointment of Pavier.-Samuel Wheatcroft Pavier now Came to this Hall and Proposed to take Care of all the Pavements in this 20 Town of Nottingham which are usually paved by this Corporation for the Annual Sallary of Thirty Pounds to Commence on the Twenty fifth day of December last and keep them in Constant Good Repair which Proposal was agreed to by this Hall.

Coventry Money.-Agreed to affix the Common Seal of this Corporation to a Bond in the Penalty of Nine hundred and Forty Eight pounds Ten Shillings and four Pence dated this day made to the Mayor Bailiffs and Commonalty of the City of Coventry for the due putting out of the Sum of Four Hundred and Seventy four

Pounds Five Shillings and Two Pence to Young Tradesmen of the Town of Nottingham to be Lent in free Loan according to the intent and meaning of a certain Indenture of Covenants made between the Mayor Bailiffs and Commonalty of the City of Coventry of the one part and the Master and Wardens of the Merchant Taylors of the 5 Fraternity of Saint John the Baptist in the City of London of the other part dated the Sixth day of July in the Fifth Year of the Reign of King Edward the Sixth. And the Common Seal was affixed accordingly. 3518 fo. 23.

1759. Tuesday April 10.

The Sheep Pens.-Agreed that Mr John Blackwell shall have the 10 Use of and the benefit arising from the Sheep Pens during the pleasure of this Corporation towards the Maintenance of himself and Family and he to Enter immediately upon the Possession of them. 3518 fo. 27.

Definition of certain boundaries.-There being Some dispute 15 between John Sherwin Esquire and this Corporation touching the Extent of Mr Sherwin's Close1 in Jack Nuttall's Lane and Several of the Members of the Council by Mr Mayors desire having attended at the place in Dispute as a Committee to view the same together with Mr Sherwin. And the Committee having made their Report 20 It is agreed that Mr Sherwin shall build the Wall (he designs to build) So as to Extend a Brick and an half within Mrs Hallowes Stable Corner and then to turn Round behind the Horse Block.

Sale of Trees.-Ordered that the Money arising by Sale of the 25 Trees lately Cut down by Samuel Page Cordwainer and John Blatherwick upon their Burgess Parts be Paid into the Chamberlains hands Subject to Account the Money being Five Pounds and Twelve Shillings. 3518 fo. 33.

Ordered and Agreed that Monday next being the Fourth of June 30 when his Royal Highness George Prince of Wales will attain his age

Mr Dodson Chamberlain. Pray pay to the Ringers of St Peters Parish six shillings and 8d for ringing on Account of Admiral Boscowen's beating the French Fleet4 and place it to Account.

Goree is an island off the W. Coast of Africa, forming part of the French colony of Senegal. It was captured by Commodore Keppel in 1758, but surrendered to France by the treaty of 1763.
