1702. 29° die Septembris Anno Domini.

Memorandum quod Johannes Rickards Armiger presens Major 15 Nominavit Theodore Fosbrooke et Willielmus Johnson Generosos fore camerarios Villæ Nottingham predictæ pro Anno proximo sequenti Et Johannes Peake Armiger Major Nominatus Nominavit Johannem Richards et Willielmum Greaves Generosos fore Camerarios Villa Nottingham predictæ pro Anno proximo sequenti.2

1702. Wednesday October 14.

Presents to the Members of Parliament.-Ordered that William Pierrepont Esq. and George Gregory Esq. the Representatives of this Town be waited upon by this Corporacion before they go for London to attend the Parliament and that they be presented with the usuall presents (viz') each of them with 9 Gallons of Wine

1702. Tuesday October 27.

Ordered that the Chamberlaines Bridgemasters and Schoolwardens bookes be Inspected and the Mistakes therein rectifyed And that the old and new Officers Mr Alderman Rickards, Mr Green, Mr Bilby, Mr John Greaves, Mr Barke and Mr Drewry do meet att this 5 Hall upon Wednesday seaven Night att Nine a Clock in the Morning for that purpose. 3470 fo. 7. Navigation of Derwent Bill.-Ordered That Mr Alderman Salmon, Mr Smith Mr Drury Mr Johnson and Mr Chamberlain Greaves do waite upon the Earle of Chesterfield about the River Derwent,' &c. 3470 fo. 7.

Ordered that this Corporacions Representatives in Parliament and Mr Sherwin be writt to in order to use their utmost Endeavour to oppose the Bill for making the River Darwent Navigable and that Mr Sherwin be desired to waite on Mr Alexander Stanhope our 15 Deputy Recorder to desire his Assistance to prevent the said Bill passing.2

1702. Monday November 30.

Ordered that Mr Alderman Salmon Mr Alderman Smith, Mr Shipman and Mr Drury and who else please do assoon as may be waite upon Sir Thomas Willoughby and desire he will use his 20 Interest to oppose making the River Derwent Navigable.

Ordered that Mr Mayor and the severall Aldermen do take as many as they think fitt along with them and go through their respective Wards and collect what money they can towards opposing 25 the River Darwent.

The Question being putt how much money the Corporacion shall allow towards making a vigourous Opposition against the said Bill for making the River Darwent Navigable Itt was carryed that the Corporacion do allow fourty pounds towards the same.

1702. Monday December 7.

Ordered That this Corporacion do make up what has been or can be gathered towards Tuxford Fire1 the full summe of fifty pounds. And that Mr Alderman Trigge and Mr Alderman Salmon do go to Tuxford on the behalfe of this Corporacion to carry the same.

3470 fo. 14. 5 Navigation of Derwent Bill.-Memorandum this day a Peticion to the House of Lords was agreed to by this House and had the Common seale affixed to itt in order to be sent to this Corporacions Members of Parliament to oppose the River Darwent being made Navigable. 3470 fo. 14. 10

Ordered That Mr Alderman Smith Mr Green or what other person is thought fitt do go up to London as soon as may be to prove this Corporacions Peticion before the Lords against the River Darwent And That Mr Sherwin be wrote to for to employ Councell about that matter. 3470 fo. 17. 15

Fishing.-Memorandum This day Gregory Clarkston was before this House discharged from Fishing Neather Trent Close Pool itt being looked upon as the Right of this Corporacion to Fish the 3470 fo. 19.

Mole Catching.-Ordered That Mr Chamberlaines do for the 20 future allow one penny for every Mole3 catched within the Libertyes of this Town as hath been accustomed. 3470 fo. 19.

1702-3. Monday March 8. Foreigners.-Memorandum this day the Corporacions seale was affixed to the By-law agreed upon the last Hall-day to prevent Forreigners using Trades in this Town. 3470 fo. 20. 25 Ordered That those persons who have Burgesse parts in the Neather-Trent Close be summoned to appear here the next Hall day in order to satisfye this House why they will not agree to the destroying the new Wharfe in that place now used by William White.

The greater portion of the town of Tuxford was burnt down on September 8th, 1702.

1703. Tuesday April 6.

Navigation of Derwent Bill.-Ordered That Mr Alderman Smith and Mr Barke do waite on the Earle of Scarsdale about his bearing a proportionable charge in hindring the River Darwent being made Navigable And also That the Mayor and Aldermen be desired to 5 go through their respective Wards and take along with them whom they please to collect what moneys they can towards bearing the said Charge.

3470 fo. 21. Ordered That Mr Kitchen, Mr Sterrop, Mr Partridge, Mr Drury and the 2 Schoolwardens do view the old house called the sign of to the sunn1 and dispose of the Materialls thereof att their discretion. 3470 fo. 21a.

1703. Monday April 12.

Coventry Money.-Ordered that Mr Sherwin be wrote to for to act for this Corporacion in Conjunction with the sollicitors of the other Towns about the hearing to be the next Term about Coventry 15 money and that he do advise with them and their Councell what is propper to be Insisted on att the hearing for the equal benefitt of the respective Corporacions itt being the opinion Notwithstanding of this House That it will not be convenient to be very strict in the obtaining a decree too much to the damage of 20 Coventry by Insisting on the Arrears. 3470 fo. 22.

1703. Thursday June 16.

Crops in the Meadows.-Whereas by reason of the Unseasonablenesse of the Weather Itt will be very prejudiciall to those persons who hold grounds in the Meadows to gett their Hay away by Midsummer next as usuall Itt is therefore ordered by this house 25 That to prevent such damage No person or persons do turn any Horses or Beasts loose into the said Meadowes nor tether any Horse or beast there after Midsummer day next untill the second day of July next ensuing the date hereof upon paine of every person offending contrary hereunto to forfeit and pay for the use of the Corpora30 cion the summe of 3s and 4d for every Offence. 3470 fo. 29.
