Tuesday February 4. 3488 fo. 5a. 10 Creation of new freemen.-This Hall is resolved into a Comittee to consider of fit persons to whom this Corporacion may Sell or give their freedom and for what Consideracion And it is further resolved that any Six of the Hall (whereof the Mayor and one of the Aldermen shall be two) may act as a Comittee for the purpose aforesaid.1 1729. Friday May 2. 3488 fo. 8. 15 Tolls. The question being put if Mr Gawthorne shall pay a passage toll for the goods he brings in and through this Town He not being a Burgess of the same. It passed in the affirmative by the Majority of votes. And it is ordered that the present Sheriffes 20 of this town or any other subsequent Sheriffes may distrain or Sue the said Mr Gawthorn for such tolls in the Name of this Corporacion and that they may commence and prosecute any suit or suits in the name of this Corporacion indempnifying the same and also for recovery of the Chief rents due to this Corporacion And 25 that the Charges of all such suits shall be defrayed out of the profits of the Sheriffes office by the present and ye Subsequent Sheriffes as Probably with the view to reducing the Town's debt.
