I SHOULD view it as a Degradation to the Judg-
ment of a well-informed Public, were I to attempt an
Apology for breathing a Memorial over the Tombs of the
deceased and considering that it is ever held the Chris-
tian's Duty to exalt Virtue for the Good of Survivors,
and to consign human Weakness to the

silent Grave,

Should they

I humbly present the following Pages.
haply recal one moment of Comfort to the afflicted

reflecting Parent, alleviate the corroding Pang of the
Orphan, or help to sweeten the Widow's Tear, I shall
feel myself liberally repaid.

Must sad relation too molest,

Has Heav'n decreed the great command?
And bade thee breathe the parting breath?
Yes, yes! it has, and Death's cold hand
Has sever'd ev'ry tie beneath.

Amidst the fever's raging flame,
Thou oft repel'dst the dreaded foe,
And didst the fatal call proclaim,

That thou, e'en thou, must feel the blow!
