kate. If difqualification fhould be thought of, let it then only be a qualification for any office to which an annual falary is annexed, or any other limited disqualification which the fenate may approve.

I have only further to fuggeft whether the fame number of members be not neceffary to fix the punishment as to ascertain the guilt.

I offer for the infpection of the fenate, certificates of my character and conduct.

Mr. Barton called for the reading of the certificates which accompanied the letter from Alexander Addison.

The queftion being put, "fhall the certificates prefented by Alexander Addison, be read ?" was determined in the negative.

Thereupon,

Ordered, That the faid certificates be returned to Alexander Addifon, by the clerk.

Moved by Mr. Rodman, feconded by Mr. Mewhorter,

Refolved, That the fentence to be pronounced on Alexander Addifon, be as follows, to wit:

"Removal from the office he now holds, and difqualification to hold any office of honor, truft or profit, under this commonwealth."

On motion of Mr. Pearson, feconded by Mr. Kean, and

Agreed, That the further confideration of the preceding refolution, be poftponed in order to introduce a fabstitute which Mr. Pearfon read in his place.

The queftion on the motion being put, was determined in the affirmative.

Mr. Pearfon prefented the substitute to the chair, and th fame was read as follows, to wit:

Refolved, That the fentence on Alexander Addison be removal from office, and difqualification to hold any office in fu

ture within this commonwealth, which is created by a commiffion from the governor, and

That the speaker of the fenate fhall pronounce the said sentence at three o'clock this afternoon, in the chamber of the houfe of reprefentatives.

On motion of Mr. Findley, feconded by Mr. Mewhorter, and Agreed, That the refolution be amended, by adding next after the word office, where it laft occurs the words " in the judiciary."

On motion of Mr. Whitehill, feconded by Mr. Barton,

Agreed, That the further confideration of the refolution be poftponed for the present.

On Thursday the house of representatives being in committee of the whole, for that purpose, and the members of the senate being introduced, the fpeaker of that body, pronounced fentence against judge Addison, as follows:

"That Alexander Addison, prefident of the several courts of common pleas, in the fifth district of this state, shall be, and he hereby is removed from his office of president aforesaid, and alfo is difqualified to hold and exercife the office of judge, in any court of law within the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.”
