The acreage of tobacco harvested in the United States in 1919 was 1,864,080, and the production was 1,372,993,261 pounds, as compared with 1,294,911 acres, producing 1,055,764,806 pounds, in 1909. The area harvested thus shows an increase of 44 per cent, while the production shows an increase of 30 per cent. The average yield per acre in 1919 was 737 pounds, as against 815 pounds in 1909. The value of the crop in 1919 was $444,047,481. A summary of the available census data with regard to the production of tobacco in the United States, beginning with the production of 1849, is given in Table 101.
