STATEMENT

The primary purpose of the transfer of Arlington Farm is to enable the establishment of a permanent Infantry garrison for the Army in close proximity to the National Capital. This garrison is recognized as an urgent necessity in the scheme of national defense. As an expedient, a temporary camp cantonment has been constructed on the site with permission of the Department of Agriculture.
