Resolved, the House concurring, that the Governor is hereby requested to communicate to the President of the United Resolution con States, a request on behalf of this State that the proper ex-cerning land ecutive department will adjust and transfer to the Minnesota sota and NW and Northwestern Railroad Company, the lands granted by railroad Act of Congress, approved June 29, 1854, so far as the same pertain to the line of said road north of St. Paul, subject to the terms and conditions of said Act of Congress.

NUMBER V.

Joint Resolution of the Legislature of the State of Minnesota, relative to Certain Mail Routes in this State.

Resolved, By the Senate, the House of Representatives CORcurring, that our Senators in Congress be instructed and our Representatives requested, to use their best exertions to pro cure the early establishment of a mail route and tri-weekly mail from Chatfield, in Fillmore County, to Winnebago City, in Farribault County, via High Forest, Brownsville, Lansing, Moscow, Sumner and Bancroft. Also a mail route and weekly

mail from Owatonna, to Vernon in Blue Earth County, via Meriden and Wilton.

Also a mail route, and weekly mail from Hastings in Dakota County, to Saint Peters in Nicollet County, via Lakeville, Wheatland and Lexington.

Resolved, That his Excellency, the Governor, be requested to forward a copy of the above resolution to our Senators and Representatives in Congress.

Joint Resolution relative to the Swamp Lands granted to the States by the Act of Sept. 28th, 1850.

Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Minnesota:

Governor request ed to apply for

That the Governor be requested and authorized to file with proper authorities, the demand of the State of Minnesota to the Swamp Lands granted to the States by an Act of Con-grant of swamp gress, approved Sept. 28th. 1850, subject to the conditions of lands said grant. And that the notes of the surveys on file in the Surveyor General's office be adopted as the basis upon which Buch lands will be received.

And it is further Resolved, That all moneys which may be received from the sale of said lands, under or by virtue of, or under the authority of any law for the sale of the same, shall be and remain a fund for the purpose of reclaiming said lands in conformity to the provisions of the said grant.

NUMBER VII.

Joint Resolution of the Senate and House of Representa tives of the State of Minnesota.

Whereas, M. F. Maury, of the United States Navy, by his invaluable discoveries in the physical geography of the sea, and the construction of wind and current charts used as guides by mariners of all nations, has greatly diminished the M7 Maury of the delays and perils of ocean navigation, and won for himself the highest rank in the scientific world, the admiration and gratitude of his countrymen, distinguished honors from foreign nations, and resolutions in his behalf from several States of our Union.

And Whereas, our State owes him a special debt of gratitude for his valuable papers on the climate of Minnesota, therefore, Be it resolved by the Legislature of the State of Minnesota :

That our Senators and Representatives in Congress, be and they are hereby requested to use all honorable means to obtain for Commander Maury, that promotion in the American Navy to which his eminent services and distinguished merits justly entitle him.

And be it further resolved, That it is propor to make the proposed deserved recognition of the worth and merits of Commander Mauray, in order to stimulate other officers of the Army and Navy of the United States to emulate his noble example, and also to prove to the world, that our republic is not ungrateful or unmindful of distinguished scientific merit Resolved, That his Excellency, the Governor, be and he is hereby requested to transmit a copy of these resolutions to each of our Senators and Representatives in Congress.

Joint Resolution of the Legislature of the State of Min

nesota.

Resolution ask. ing a grant of

Whereas, The Hastings, Minnesota and Red River of the North Railroad was chartered by the Legislative Assembly of the Territory of Minnesota, in the year 1857. And Whereas, land to a railroad the line of said road runs through a country rich in agricultural and mineral resources: And Whereas, our future prosperity and greatness depend upon the early construction and completion of our rail road enterprises; therefore,

Be it Resolved, By the Senate, the House of Representatives concuring, that we do respectfully ask Congress for a grant of a portion of the unsold lands along the line of said road to aid in its construction.

Resolved, That our Senators be instructed, and our Representatives be requested to use their influence to secure the passage of such Act.

Resolved, That his Excellency the Governor, be requested to forward a copy of these resolutions to our Senators and Representatives in Congress.
