A message from the Senate by Mr. Bowen.

MR. SPEAKER-There have been introduced into the Senate, bills entitled:

"A bill to donate several lots to the City of Jefferson."

"A bill to organize Miller county,"

"A bill to organize the county of St. Clair," and

"A bill to define the Southern boundary of the county of Jackson." The Senate have passed a bill entitled,

"An act to establish a State Road from Griswold to Heculaneum." And have passed bills from the House of Representatives entitled, "An act for the relief of James H. Birch."

"An act to Charter the Rocheport rail road company." and

"An act to incorporate the Marion City and Missouri rail road Company."

With divers amendments to the two last named bills, in which the concurrence of the House of Representatives is requested. And On motion,

The House then adjourned.

FRIDAY MORNING, JANUARY 13, 1837.

The House met pursuant to adjournment.

Mr. Fewell appeared and took his seat.

A message from the Senate by Mr. Bowen.

MR. SPEAKER-The Senate have passed,

"An act to incorporate the Southern Rail Road Company with sundry amendments,"

Which is herewith returned, and in which the concurrence of the House of Representatives is requested.

There has been introduced into the Senate,

"A bill to establish Holstein Female Seminary of Keenansville in Lewis county."

The Senate have passed bills from the House of Representatives entitled,

"An act supplemental and amendatory to an act to authorize the sale of the St. Louis Common," and

"An act for the relief of John Moore, of Scott county,"

Which are here with returned.

Mr. Thornton moved

To lay the amendment of the Senate to the bill to regulate the apportionment of the Road and Canal Fund, together with the amendment offerred thereto, on the table.

Which was at the request of Mr. Fulkerson, decided by ayes and nays in negative. Ayes 30-Nays 42.

Mr. Emmons moved that the House adjourn, which was negatived. The call of the House was then made, and all the members answered to their names, except Messrs. Allard, Burns, Duncan, Stuart, Taylor, Thompson and Wilson of Barry, absent sick, and absent Messrs. Bay, King, Smith of Washington, and Turner.

A list of whom, except Messrs. Allard, Burns, Stuart and Duncan, was delivered to the door-keeper, with instructions to request their attendance in the House.

seats.

Mr. Barnes asked to be excused from voting on this question,
Which was granted by the House.

The question was then put on agreeing to the amendment offered by Mr. Thornton, to the amendment made by the Senate to the bill relative to the Road and Canal Fund, which was at the request of Mr. Doniphan.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 14, 1837.

The House met pursuant to adjournment.

Mr. Barnes from the joint committee on enrolled bills, reported that said committee had presented to the Governor for his approval, a bill entitled

"An act, supplemental to an act, entitled an act, to organize the counties of Livingston, Macon, Taney, and Linn," and that said committee have examined and found truly enrolled,

"An act to define the boundaries of Shannon county, and for other purposes."

"An act for the relief of James H. Birch."

"An act to incorporate the Washington Mining Company."

"An act supplementary to an act, entitled an act, to regulate the sale of the Sixteenth Section, and to provide for organizing, regulating, and perpetuating Common Schools."

"An act for the relief of John Moore of Scott county," and "An act supplementary and amendatory to an act entitled an act, to authorise the sale of the St. Louis Common."

Which were signed by the Speaker of the House, and transmitted to the Senate.

Mr. Monroe presented the remonstrance of sundry citizens of Morgan county, against including within the county of Barbour, the Southern portion of Morgan county.

The reading of which was dispensed with, and

On his motion,

Laid on the table.

Mr. Minor presented the petition and remonstrance of sundry citi zens of St. Louis, relative to the St. Ferdinand Common, The reading of which was dispensed with, and

On his motion,

Referred to a Select Committee.

Whereupon, Messrs. Minor, Wright of Marion, and Bowlin were appointed that committee.

Mr. Layton presented the petition of sundry citizens, praying the passage of a law, explanatory of an act, constituting the several county Courts, Boards of Internal Improvement, so as to enable the county Court of Cape Girardeau county, to appropriate a part of the three per cent., belonging to said county, for the building of a bridge across Apple-Creek, on the county and post road from from Perryville to Jackson.

The reading of which was dispensed with, and

On his motion,

Referred to a Select Committee.

Whereupon, Messrs. Layton, Detchemendy and Fort, were appointed that committee.

Mr. Coalter from the Select committee to which was referred the petition of sundry citizens of St. Charles county, reported, "A bill to incorporate the St. Charles Rail Road,"

Which was read the first time and ordered to a second reading. Mr. Jones from the Select Committee, to which was referred the

petition of Rebecca Ruggles for a divorce. Also, the petition of Joseph Hamilton for a divorce, reported

“A bill to divorce Rebecca Ruggles, late Rebecca Smith, from the bonds of matrimony, contracted with Edmund L. Ruggles," Also "A bill to dissolve the bonds of matrimony existing between Joseph Hamilton and Rebecca Hamilton his wife,"

Which were severally read a first time and ordered to a second reading.

Mr. Fulkerson from the Select Committee to which was referred the petitions of sundry citizens, praying the establishment of a state road from the city of Jefferson to Independence, reported

"A bill to view and mark a state road,"

Which was read the first time and ordered to a second reading, and

On motion of Mr. Fulkerson,

The rule requiring bills to be read on three several days was dispensed with, and

Said bill was read a second time and ordered to be engrossed and read a third time.

Mr. Fort from the Select committee to which was referred a resolution requiring said committee to examine the books and papers in the hands of the Warden of the Penitentiary, or any other person, so as to ascertain what disposition has been made of the balance of the money found in the hands of the commissioners appointed to superintend the building of the Penitentiary, as reported by a committee of the last session of the General Assembly, reported that the committee had examined the subject with the attention due its importance, and found it necessary to a full illustration of the whole transaction to go behind the settlement made with the commissioner, at
