On motion of Mr. Hunter, it was

Resolved, That the Governor be requested to inform this House, if any, and what number of acres of Seminary land is due this state from the United States, showing the quantity of acres selected and reserved for Seminary purposes, and the quantity yet to be selected.

"An act to incorporate the Merrimac Academy and for other purposes."

On motion of Mr. Hunter,

On motion of Mr. Edwards,

Referred to a select committee of five,

Whereupon, Messrs. Edwards, King, Redman, Bowlin and Hunter, were appointed that committee.

On motion of Mr. Caldwell,

"The bill from the Senate for the relief of Ezra Fox," Was taken up, and read the third time, and passed. On motion of Mr. Barnes,

Messrs. Minor and Bowlin, were added to the Select Committee to which was referred the

"Bill to improve the navigation of the Merrimac river."

Mr. Groom pursuant to notice, leave being given, introduced "A bill to build a bridge across Loutre Creek,"

Which was read the first time, and

Ordered to a second reading.

On motion of Mr. King,

The House resolved itself into a committee of the Whole,
Mr. Emmons in the chair, and

After spending some time therein rose, and their chairman reported
That the committee have had under considation

"A bill to incorporate the Marion City and Missouri Rail Road Company," and have reported the same with amendments, also

"A bill to incorporate the Hotel Company of St. Louis," and report the same without amendment,

Which report was agreed to, and the bills therein mentioned, severally ordered to be engrossed, and read a third time.

On motion of Mr. Price,

The following resolution was adopted.

"Resolved, That on each day when the House has disposed of the first order in the list, it shall resolve itself into a committee of the Whole on the bank charter, until said committee shall report the same to the House."

Mr. Cravens of Pettis gave notice, that he would on Saturday next, ask leave to introduce a memorial to the Congress of the United States, on the subject of attaching Saline and Pettis counties to the Lexington land district.

Mr. McGunnegle gave notice, that on Saturday next, he would ask leave to introduce

"A bill to incorporate the St. Louis Insurance Company." Mr. Hunter submitted the following resolution."

"Resolved, That the House will hereafter meet at 7 o'clock in the evening, for the purpose of holding evening sessions, until otherwise ordered by the House," which

On motion of Mr. Noland,

Was laid upon the table.

A message from the Senate by Mr. Bowen.

MR. SPEAKER-There has been introduced into the Senate,

"A bill to pay Judges and Clerks of Elections."

The Senate have concurred in the passage of bills from the House entitled

"An act, declaring a certain road, a part of the state road," and

"An act to incorporate the St. Louis Chamber of Commerce," each of which is herewith returned.

The Senate have rejected,

"A bill respecting the Penitentiary," and have adopted the following resolution:

"Resolved, That the House of Representatives be informed, that the Senate is now ready, whenever it suits the convenience of that body, to go into an election of a Warden of the Penitentiary."

Mr. Price from the joint committee on enrolled bills, reported That said committee had presented to the Governor for his approval,

"An act to organize the counties of Livingston, Macon, Taney and Linn."

On motion of Mr. Chambers,

The House dispensed with the resolution making the bank bill the special order for this evening's session, and resolved itself into a committee of the Whole on the orders of the day.

Mr. Redman in the chair, and

After spending some time therein, rose, and their chairman reported,

That the committee have had under consideration,

"A bill to incorporate the St. Louis and Bellevieu Mineral Rail Road," and have agreed to the same with an amendment. Also, "A bill to charter the Louisiana and Columbia Rail Road Company," and have agreed to the same with an amendment.

"A bill to incorporate the St. Louis and Fayette Rail Road," and report the same with amendments.

"A bill to organise the county of Bates," and have passed over the

same.

"A bill to incorporate the town of St. Charles," and have agreed to the same without amendment.

"A bill supplementary and amendatory to an act entitled an act, to authorise the sale of the St. Louis common," and have agreed to the same without amendment.

Which report was agreed to, and the several bills therein reported Ordered to be engrossed, and read a third time.

On motion of Mr. Smith of Washington,

It was "resolved by the House of Representatives, the (Senate concurring therein) that the two Houses meet in the Representative Hall on to-morrow, at half past 2 o'clock, P. M., for the purpose of electing a Warden of the Penitentiary.

On motion of Mr. Fort,

It was resolved.

That the Select Committee appointed by this House to examine the books and papers in the hands of the Warden of the Penitentiary, or any other person, so as to ascertain what disposition has been made with the balance of the money found in the hands of the commissioners appointed to superintend the building of a Penitentiary,

as reported by a committee of the last session of the General Assembly, be authorised and empowered to send for persons and papers, and require them to testify on oath, touching the above premises." On motion

The House adjourned.

FRIDAY MORNING, JANUARY 6, 1837.

The House met pursuant to adjournment.

Mr. Fort from the joint committee on enrolled bills, reported as truly enrolled

"An act for the relief of Ezra Fox."

Mr. Young from the same committee reported as truly enrolled. "An act to incorporate Kemper College," and

"An act supplementary to an act, concerning Patrol," all of which were signed by the Speaker of the House, and transmitted to the Senate.

Mr. Bowlin presented the petition of the commissioners named in "An act to incorporate the Marine Insurance company of St. Lou is," asking amendments to the law chartering said company, The reading of which was dispensed with, and

On his motion,

Referred to a Select Committee.

Whereupon, Messrs. Bowlin, Alford and Davis were appointed that committee.

Mr. Head presented the petition of sundry citizens relative to the selection of the Seat of Justice for the county of Macon, at or near the store of Garth, Giddens and Green,

The reading of which was dispensed with, and

On his motion,

It was referred to a select committee,

Whereupon, Messrs. Head, Price, and Canole were appointed that committee.

On motion of Mr. Cravens of Pettis,

The vote taken yesterday on the adoption of the concurrent resolution, relative to the election of Warden of the Penitentiary was reconsidered, and

On motion of Mr. Fort,

The resolution was laid upon the table.

On motion of Mr. Fort,

The House resolved itself into a committee of the Whole House, on the orders of the day, and

After spending some time therein, the committee rose, and their chairman

Mr. Hunter reported,

That the committee had again had under consideration

"A bill to charter the Union Bank of the State of Missouri," and had made some progress therein, and ask leave to sit again, Which was granted by the House.

A Message from the Senate by M. Bowen.

MR. SPEAKER-The Senate have passed bills from the House of Representatives entitled

An act, for the relief of the heirs of Daniel Doren, deceased," and "A memorial to Congress on the subject of improving the navigation of South Grand river."

Which are herewith returned.

The Senate have likewise passed a bill to legalize the acts of coun ty Courts, Commissioners of County Seats, and Commissioners of county buildings,"

Which is herewith submitted for the action of the House of Representatives.

The Speaker laid before the House the following communication from the governor:
