"A bill supplementary to an act entitled

"An act, to provide for levying, assessing and collecting the revenue," and

"A bill to amend an act, entitled

"An act, fixing the salaries of civil officers,"

Which were severally read the first time, and Ordered to a second reading.

On motion of Mr. Allard,

The following resolution was adopted:

Resolved, That the committee on Education, inquire into the expediency of appropriating the Seminary and Saline funds, to common School purposes, and that they report by bill or otherwise.

On motion of Mr. Fort,

The committee of the Whole House, were discharged from the further consideration of the bill from the Senate, supplementary to an act entitled

"An act, to incorporate a company to make a McAdamized Road, from Caledonia in Washington county, to the Mississippi_river," and On his further motion,

The bill was taken up, and read a third time.

Mr. Detchemendy moved to amend the bill, by striking out the "ryder," which amendment

Was read the first and second time, and considered as engrossed, and read the third time.

Mr. Alexander moved to amend said bill as follows:

"Amend section 4, by inserting in 3d line, after the word "Roads" the words "street or alley," in 7th line, after the word "Road" insert "street or alley," in 10th line, after the word "Road," insert "street or alley" after the "district" in the 18th line, insert "if a public road, or by the Sheriff of the county, if a street or alley."

Which amendment, was read the first and second time, and
Considered as engrossed, and read the third time.

Mr. Thomas offered the following amendment, "section 6," in the 3d line, strike out the word "five" and insert "seven,"

Which was read the first and second time, and

Considered as engrossed, and read the third time.

The question was then put, "shall the bill, together with the amendments, pass," and

Decided in the affirmative.

Mr. Noland from the Select Committee, to which was referred the petition of sundry citizens of Ripley county, requesting to be attached to the county of Washington, &c., reported

"A bill to attach part of the county of Ripley, to the county of Washington."

Which was read the first time, and

Ordered to a second reading.

On motion of Mr. Fort,

The House passed over the previous orders, and resolved itself in

to a committee of the Whole House, on the orders of the day, with a view of taking up the bank bill.

Mr. Noland in the chair, and

After spending some time therein, rose and reported.

That the committee have had under consideration the

"Bill to charter the Union Bank of the State of Missouri," and had made some progress therein, and ask leave to sit again, which was granted...

A message from the Senate by Mr. Bowen.

MR. SPEAKER-There have been introduced into the Senate, "A bill respecting Chancery Practice."

"A bill concerning Mills and Mill dams." Also,

"A resolution respecting the Election of Warden of the Peniten

tiary,"

Which has been laid on the table.

There has this day passed the Senate,

"An act concerning Grand Jurors,”

Which is herewith submitted for the concurrence of the House of Representatives.

On motion of Mr. McGunnegle,

The House again resolved itself into a committee of the Whole, and after spending some time therein, the committee rose, and Their Chairman, Mr. Noland, reported,

That the committee had again had under consideration, the

"Bill to charter the Union Bank of the State of Missouri," and have made some progress therein, and ask leave to sit again, which was granted by the House.

Mr. Young from the joint committee on Enrolled Bills, reported, that the committee had presented to the Governor for his approval, bills and memorials of the following titles:

"An act to incorporate the South St. Louis Steam Ferry Company."

"An act for the reief of E. McAlexander, late sheriff of Saline county."

"An act for the relief of Ammon Knighton."

"An act to establish an academy in the town of Liberty."

"A memorial on the subject of land patents and field notes." And "A memorial to the Congress of the United States to attach a point of land reserved for the half breed Indians, situate between the Mississippi and Des Moines river, to this state.""

Mr. McGunnegle presented the petition of Edward Tracy, President of the St. Louis Chamber of Commerce, praying an act to incorporate said Chamber-which was read, and

Referred to a Select Committee-ordered, that Messrs. McGunnegle, Fort and Chambers, compose that committee.

Mr. Persell presented the petition of the counties of Pulaski and Morgan, praying the organization of a new county,

The reading of which being dispensed with, was

Reterred to a Select Committee-composed of Messrs. Persell, Marlin and Thompson.

Mr. Doniphan presented the petition of Matthew Everett, guardian for the infant heirs and the only legal representatives of John Church, deceased, late of Clay county, praying the passage of an act to authorize said guardian to a sell a certain tract of land, therein named, and to invest the proceeds arising therefrom in lands of the General Government, at the minimum price, in the name of said heirs.

The reading of which being dispensed with,

Was referred to the committee on the Judiciary.

Mr. Hunter from the Select Committee to which was referred the joint petition of Samuel L. Stephens and Margaret his wife, reported "A bill to divorce Samuel L. Stephens and Margaret Stephens from the bonds of matrimony,"

Which was read the first time and ordered to a second reading. Mr. Fort from the joint committee on Public Printing reported, That the committee have examined the proposals referred to them and that A. B. Chambers and O. Harris have proposed to print the Laws of the present session of the General Assembly, as follows: for the first 500 copies $1 78 cents per page of 1500 ems, and 25 cents per page for each additional 100 copies, which is the lowest proposal referred to the committee; and the committee therefore recommend the House to accept the above proposals. Also, the said Chambers and Harris propose to print the Journals of the present session of the General Assembly, as follows: $1 12 cents per 1000 ems for the first 500 hundred copies, and 18 cents per page for each additional 100 copies, and for folding, stitching and covering with a strong paper covering, each of the above works, the sum of 18 cents per volume, which is the lowest bid for the above works: the committee therefore recommend to the House to accept the same. Which report was read, and

On motion of Mr. Hunter,

The report of the committee together with all the proposals, were laid on the table.

On motion of Mr. Monroe,

The rule requiring one day's notice of the introduction of a bill was dispensed with, and leave being given, he introduced

"A bill supplementary to an act entitled, an act to provide for surveying and marking out certain state roads," approved March 7,

1835.

Which was read the first time and ordered to a second reading. Mr. Fort asked and obtained leave of absence for Mr. Woolfolk. Mr. Layton asked and obtained leave of absence for Mr. Groom for a few days.

Mr. Bowlin asked and obtained leave of absence for Mr. Speaker until Wednesday next.

On motion of Mr. Monroe,

The rule requiring bills to be read on three several days was dispensed with, and

"A bill supplementary to an act entitled, an act to provide for surveying and marking out certain state roads," approved March 7th, 1835.

Was read a second time and ordered to be engrossed, and

Read a third time.

Mr. Holliday gave notice, that he would, on Tuesday next, ask leave to introduce, a bill to allow grand jurors of Gasconade county pay for their services out of the county treasury.

Mr. Fort asked to be discharged from the joint committee on Printing, which was refused by the House.

On motion of Mr. Hancock,

The following resolution was adopted.

Resolved, That the committee on the Militia be instructed to inquire into the expediency of so amending the Militia Law, as that the holding regimental, battalion, company and drill musters be fixed on certain days, and so amending the law as to supercede the necessity of notifying each non-commissioned officer, musician and private, and that they only be required to advertise in some public place or places, within their respective commands.

"A bill supplementary to the act entitled, an act to provide for levying, assessing and collecting the revenue."

"A bill to amend an act entitled, an act fixing the salary of the Civil Officers." And

"A bill to attach a part of Ripley county to the county Washington."

Were severally read a second time, and
