PFISTER, PRESIDENT SHARON P. ROCKEFELLER, CHAIRMAN, BOARD OF DIRECTORS Mr. NATCHER. The committee will come to order. We take up at this time the request for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. We have before the committee this morning Mrs. Sharon P. Rockefeller, Chairman, Board of Directors; Mr. Edward J. Pfister, President; and Mr. Fred P. Wacker, Vice President. And we are delighted to have all three of you before the committee. As I understand now, you are appearing today on three different matters. First, your 1987 budget request, second, a 1986 rescission proposal by the Administration, and third, your request for supplemental appropriations for 1984, 1985 and 1986. We will discuss all three of these matters during the hearings this morning, and we will be pleased to hear from you. OPENING STATEMENT OF Ms. ROCKEFELLER Ms. ROCKEFELLER. Thank you very much, Mr. Natcher. We are pleased to join you, Mr. Dwyer and Mr. Early. We appreciate the opportunity to appear before the Subcommittee this morning. You did mention the three different areas which we will be covering. Mr. Pfister will basically speak to those areas. I will limit my remarks to the effect of the Federal cuts so far on public broadcasting, and then a general statement about public television and public radio. (1) |
