Chapter 77.

Resolve in favor of Drew Plantation.

Resolved, That the sum of fifteen hundred dollars be and is hereby appropriated to aid in building a bridge across the Mattawamkeag river at Drew Plantation, Penobscot county, provided a like amount be raised by said plantation and the county of Aroostook for the same purpose, the same to be drawn and expended by the county commissioners of Penobscot and Aroostook counties.

Chapter 78.

Resolve in favor of Washington Academy.

Resolved, That the sum of five hundred dollars be hereby appropriated annually for the term of ten years to Washington Academy, an institution of learning located in the town of East Machias in the county of Washington, provided, however, that this appropriation is made upon the express condition that the trustees of said institution shall maintain and keep in operation a school equal in rank and grade of teaching with a first class academy, of not less than three terms of ten weeks each during each year, and provided further, that the governor and council and superintendent of common schools shall have a right at all times to visit said school when the same shall be in operation, and if in the opinion of the governor and council said institution shall at any time hereafter fail to fulfill the condition of this resolve they may in their discretion, withhold the appropriation herein granted.

Resolve to reimburse the town of Bingham for money paid out for the support of persons having no residence in said town.

Chapter 81.

Resolve in favor of the Committee on Agriculture.

Resolved, That the state treasurer be directed to pay to Joseph F. Warren, chairman of said committee, the sum of eighty-five dollars, the same being the amount paid out for expenses of the committee on agriculture on its recent visit to the Maine State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts, in accordance with the order of the legislature.

Settlers in Madawaska, in favor of

Resolve in favor of certain settlers occupying lands in the Madawaska Territory affected by the Treaty of Washington.

Resolved, That there be and hereby is appropriated out of the state treasury the sum of fifty dollars and thirty-five cents, to be paid by warrants drawn by the governor and council, to the persons hereinafter named as follows:

To Thomas Cota for Mary Yearington, heir of Isaac Yearington, or her heirs or assigns, the sum of thirty-seven dollars and seventy-one cents.

To William Dickey, agent for Charles Bouchard or his heirs or assigns, the sum of twelve dollars and sixty-four

cents.

The said sums hereby appropriated are for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of chapter two hundred and twenty of the resolves of eighteen hundred and eighty-nine, said sums having lapsed into the state treasury before the papers in the above named cases could be prepared.

Resolve in favor of Jonas Green.

Resolved, That there be paid to Jonas Green of Bluehill, out of the state treasury, a pension of four dollars per month, commencing on the first day of January, eighteen hundred and ninety-one.

Chapter 85.

Resolve to amend chapter forty-five of the resolves of eighteen hundred and fifty-seven, entitled "Resolve in favor of Constant A. McLaughlin."

Resolved, That chapter forty-five of the resolves of eighteen hundred and fifty-seven be, and hereby is amended by striking out the word "said" in the eighth line thereof and inserting instead thereof the word 'the,' also striking out the words "seventy-five" in the eighth line thereof and inserting instead thereof the words 'one hundred,' also adding after the word "McLaughlin" in the ninth line thereof the words in two semi-annual payments of fifty dollars each,' also by striking out the words "annually thereafter" in the tenth line thereof and inserting instead thereof the words and the sixth day of November annually hereafter,' also striking out all of said chapter after the word "labor" at the end of the eleventh line. thereof, so that said chapter as amended, shall read as follows:

Resolved, That there be paid out of any money in the treasury, not otherwise appropriated, to Constant A. McLaughlin, the sum of seventy-five dollars, as a compensation for injuries to his left shoulder, received in aiding an officer of the peace, at Lewiston, on the sixth day of May, eighteen hundred and fifty-four, in capturing one Thomas Hyde, there engaged in a breach of the peace; said sum to be in full for said injuries to the sixth day of May, eighteen hundred and fifty-seven. And that the sum of one hundred dollars be paid to said Constant A. McLaughlin, in two semiannual payments of fifty dollars each, on the sixth day of May and the sixth day of November, annually hereafter, as a compensation for said injuries, so long as they incapacitate him from obtaining a subsistence by manual labor.

Chapter 86.

Resolve in favor of a survey of the Penobscot River.

Resolved, That there be and hereby is appropriated the sum of one hundred dollars to be expended in making a survey of the Penobscot river at or near the mouth of the Piscataquis river, with a view of affording information to the next legislature, with reference to the cost of building a at bridge said point.

Chapter 87.

Resolve in favor of Codyville Plantation, Washington county.

Resolved, That the state treasurer is hereby authorized and directed to refund to Codyville Plantation, Washington county, the sum of sixty-six dollars. The same being an amount of state tax overpaid by said plantation by mistake, for the years eighteen hundred and eighty-seven, eighteen hundred and eighty-eight and eighteen hundred and eighty

nine.

Industrial School for Girls, in favor of.

Chapter 88.

Resolve in favor of the Maine Industrial School for Girls.

Resolved, That there be and is hereby appropriated from the funds in the state treasury the sum of seven thousand dollars, for the use of the Maine Industrial School for Girls, at Hallowell, to meet the current expenses for the year eighteen hundred and ninety-one; and seven thousand dollars to meet the current expenses for the year eighteen hundred and ninety-two.

Chapter 89.

Resolve in favor of the committee attending funeral of late Newell A. Trafton of Norway,
Maine.

Resolved, That the state treasurer be directed to pay to Oscar H. Hersey, chairman of said committee, the sum of ninety-six dollars and seven cents, the same being the amount paid out for expenses of the committee, in attending the funeral of the late Newall A. Trafton, at Norway, Maine, in accordance with the order of the legislature.
