Chapter 64.

Resolve appropriating money for repairs of state prison buildings, sewerage, draining of prison yard, and steam heating.

Resolved, That the sum of eleven thousand and five hun- State Prison, in dred dollars is hereby appropriated, to be expended under the supervision and direction of the prison inspectors and warden of said prison and for the following purposes: for repairing stable and constructing sheds, fifteen hundred dollars; for repairing trimming shop and work house, one thousand dollars; for steam heating apparatus, five thousand dollars; for sewerage and draining, two thousand dollars; for painting, one thousand dollars; for repairing prison buildings and walls, one thousand dollars.

Chapter 65.

Resolve in favor of Corinna Union Academy.

Resolved, That the sum of five hundred dollars is hereby annually appropriated for the term of ten years, to Corinna Union Academy, an institution of learning located in the town of Corinna, in the county of Penobscot; provided, however, that this appropriation is made upon the express condition that the trustees of said institution shall maintain and keep in operation, for at least twenty-four weeks per year, a school equal in rank and grade of teaching with a first-class academy, and provided further, that the governor and council, and superintendent of common schools, shall have a right at all times to visit said school, when the same shall be in operation; and if in the opinion of the governor and council, said institution, at any time. hereafter shall fail to fulfill the conditions contained in this resolve they may in their discretion, withhold the appropriation herein granted.

Chapter 67.

Resolve for the payment of back salaries of Guards at the State Prison.

Resolved, That the sum of one hundred and sixty-five dollars and thirty-two cents, be and is hereby appropriated, to pay the deficiency of salaries of two guards at the state prison, in the following proportions, and to the following named persons; to Benjamin W. White eighty-five dollars and thirtytwo cents, and to F. L. Robinson eighty dollars.

Springfield

Chapter 68.

Resolve in favor of Springfield Normal School.

Resolved, That the sum of five hundred dollars is hereby Normal School, annually appropriated for the term of six years to Springfield Normal School, an institution of learning located in the town of Springfield, in the county of Penobscot ; provided, however, that this appropriation is made upon the express condition that the superintendent of common schools shall have the right, at all times, to visit said school, when the same shall be in operation, and provided, further, that the director of said institution shall make a report, annually, to the superintendent of common schools, setting forth the course of study, the number of students attending the institution and any other facts which the said superintendent may deem necessary, and the said superintendent may at his discretion, order said appropriation withheld.

Chapter 69.

Resolve in favor of the town of Passadumkeag.

Resolved, That there be and hereby is appropriated the Town of sum of four hundred dollars, to be expended under the in favor of. direction of the county commisioners of the county of Penobscot, to repair the bridge over the Passadumkeag stream, in the town of Passadumkeag, on the military road from Bangor to Houlton.

Chapter 70.

Resolve in favor of William Dow of Tremont.

Resolved, That there be paid out of the treasury of the Wm. Dow, in state to William Dow of Tremont, the sum of six dollars per month as a military pension commencing January first, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-one, and until such time. as he shall receive a government pension.

Resolved, That the state treasurer be directed to pay Loring R. Giles, chairman of the committee on the State Agriculture, in College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts, the sum of ninetyfour dollars and seventy-five cents, the same being the amount paid by him for expenses of said committee on its recent visit to the college in accordance with the order of the legislature. Insurance Laws, compilation of.

Chapter 73.

Resolve authorizing the compilation of the Insurance Laws of Maine.

Resolved, That the insurance commissioner be authorized to compile the insurance and fraternal beneficiary laws of the state including those enacted during the present session of the legislature, and cause not more than twenty-five hundred copies to be printed for the use of his department.

Chapter 74.

Resolve in relation to the public lots in the Plantation of Highland, Somerset County.

Resolved, That the land agent be requested to bring suit Highland or otherwise take measures to test the question, whether the said plantation of Highland owns the public lot bounded on the west by the west line of said plantation of Highland for school purposes as set off by John Pierce, G. W. Clark and Luke S. Manter as by their plan dated November ten, eighteen hundred and forty-seven in said Highland.

Chapter 75.

Resolve in favor of the Plantation of Highland.

Resolved, That the state treasurer be and hereby is author- Highland plantation, in ized and directed to credit to the reserved land fund of favor of. Highland Plantation, the sum of five hundred dollars it being in full for timber illegally cut by Marcellus Steward in eighteen hundred eighty-two and eighteen hundred eightythree, from a school lot in said Highland under a resolve entitled "Resolve in favor of Thaddeus Bemis" and being chapter two hundred and thirty-six of the session laws of eighteen hundred and fifty.

Chapter 76.

Resolve in favor of Henry H. Bucklin of Thomaston.

Resolved, That there be and is hereby appropriated from

the state treasury the sum of ninety-four dollars and seven- in favor of teen cents, to be paid Henry H. Bucklin of Thomaston, for back pay due him as guard at the Maine State Prison.
