thirteen dollars and seventy cents.

For wire guards over skylights, two hundred fifteen dollars and nine cents.

For iron ladder for vault in treasurer's office, twenty-six dollars and ninety-seven cents.

For shelves, desk, cases, mats and plumbing, state board of health's office, three hundred seventy-five dollars.

For five tables for committee rooms, sixty-five dollars.

Furnishing of library, in favor of.

Chapter 111.

Resolve authorizing the State Librarian to enter into contracts for furnishing the new
Library Rooms.

Resolved, That the state librarian, under the supervision of the governor and council, be and hereby is authorized to enter into the proper contracts for furnishing the new library rooms, in a proper manner, and book stacks, shelvings, cases and furniture, and for such purpose the sum of eight thousand five hundred dollars is hereby appropriated.

Preamble.

Fort Kent, purchase of, in favor of.

Chapter 112.

Resolves for the purchase of Fort Kent in the county of Aroostook, and to repair and preserve the same.

WHEREAS, the United States, on or about the year eighteen hundred and forty, built a fort on the west side of Fish river at its junction with the Saint John, and bestowed upon it the honored name of the then governor of the state, Fort Kent. And

WHEREAS, the United States, in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-seven, relinquished to the state of Maine all rights to and jurisdiction over the same. And

WHEREAS, the state of Maine afterward sold the land and CHAP. 113 said fort; therefore be it

Resolved, That the governor be and hereby is authorized and directed to appoint a committee of two, who shall be authorized to purchase said fort and as much land as may be deemed necessary for the public good, with suitable roadway to said fort. And be it further

Resolved, That the sum of three hundred dollars be and is hereby appropriated for the purposes aforesaid, or so much thereof as may be found necessary.

Chapter 113.

Resolve making an appropriation for the examination of Pension Claims.

Resolved, That the state pension agent is hereby authorized Pension claims, to expend such sum under the direction of the governor and council, not exceeding two hundred dollars as may be necèssary to properly examine the claims presented to his office, the same to be paid out of the appropriation for soldiers' pensions for the years eighteen hundred and ninety-one and eighteen hundred and ninety-two.

Chapter 114.

Resolve for the expenses of the Committee on Education in visiting Normal Schools.

Resolved, That the sum of one hundred fifty-six dollars and sixty-five cents is hereby appropriated from any unex- Education, in pended money, in the treasury, in favor of the committee on education, to defray the expenses of said committee incurred. in visiting the normal schools of the state.

Bank examiner, clerk hire for.

Chapter 115.

Resolves providing clerk hire for the Bank Examiner.

Resolved, That the bank examiner is hereby authorized and empowered to employ a clerk or clerks to assist in the discharge of the duties of his office whenever the exigencies require such assistance, provided, however, that the expense to the state for such clerk hire shall not exceed the sum of one thousand dollars in any one year, and the same amount shall be appropriated annually for such purpose instead of the seven hundred dollars now provided by law.

Resolved, That all prior resolves inconsistent herewith, are hereby repealed.

Chapter 116.

Resolves authorizing a temporary loan for the year eighteen hundred and ninety-one.

Resolved, That to provide for the wants of the treasury, the treasurer of state be, and is hereby authorized to procure on the faith of the state, if he shall deem it necessary, at any time during the year eighteen hundred and ninety-one, a temporary loan of three hundred thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be needed.

Resolved, That the treasurer of state be and hereby is authorized to give notes in behalf of the state, payable within two years from the date hereof, for such portions of the loan hereby authorized as may be required.

Scarborough shall choose one in the years eighteen hundred and ninety-four and eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, if by reason of an amendment of the constitution, annual and regular sessions of the legislature shall be held in those years. Harpswell shall choose one in the years eighteen hundred and ninety-six and nineteen bundred if, for the same reason, such session shall be held in those years.

The county of Franklin shall choose four representatives to be apportioned as follows: Farmington and New Sharon, one; Wilton, Jay, Carthage and Chesterville, one; Avon, Strong, Phillips, Salem, Weld, Temple, Perkins plantation, Washington plantation, Number Six plantation, and Letter E plantation, one; Kingfield, Rangeley, New Vineyard, Freeman, Eustis, Madrid, Industry, Rangeley plantation, Greenvale plantation, Coplin plantation, Dallas and all other territory in the county of Franklin not included in any other district, one. The town of Phillips is authorized to elect a representative for the years eighteen hundred and ninety-three, eighteen hundred and ninety-four, nineteen hundred and one and nineteen hundred and two.

The county of Hancock shall choose nine representatives to be apportioned as follows: Ellsworth, one; Bucksport and Verona, one; Orland, Castine and Brooksville, one; Bluehill, Surry and Dedham, one; Mount Desert, Eden, Tremont and Cranberry Isle, one; Deer Isle, Swans Island and all other islands in said county not included in any other district, one;
