Chapter 220.

An Act to amend the charter of the Springvale Aqueduct Company.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

Chapter sixty-eight of the private and special laws of eighteen hundred and seventy-eight entitled "An Act to incorporate the Springvale Aqueduct Company" is hereby amended by the addition of the following sections:

'SECT. 4. Any person who shall willfully injure any of the property of said company, or who shall knowingly and willfully corrupt or divert the water of Littlefield pond, or any of the streams running into said pond, in any manner whatever or render them impure, whether the same be frozen or not, or who shall throw the carcasses of dead animals or other offensive matter into said waters, or throw or leave upon the ice in said pond and streams any such offensive matter, or by boating or bathing or fishing, contaminate and make said waters unfit for household purposes, or who shall willfully destroy or injure any dam, reservoir, aqueduct, pipe, hydrant, or other property held or owned by said company for the purposes of this act, shall be punished by a fine not exceeding five hundred dollars or by imprisonment not less than six months, and shall be liable to said company for three times the actual damages to be recovered in any proper action.

'SECT. 5. Said company is hereby authorized to make contracts with said town of Sanford or any village corporation which may be formed in said town, and with all other corporations and individuals for the purpose of supplying water for fire, sewers, domestic or other purposes as contemplated by said act, and said town is hereby authorized by its selectmen to enter into contracts with said company for the supply of water and for such exemption from public burden as said town and said company may agree upon, which, when made shall be legal and binding upon all parties thereto.'

An Act amendatory of section eight of chapter five hundred and eighteen of the Private and
Special Laws of eighteen hundred and eighty-nine, relating to Clinton Village Corporation.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

Section eight of chapter five hundred and eighteen of the private and special laws of eighteen hundred and eighty-nine 1889, amended. is hereby amended, by adding thereto the following words: but if said charter is not accepted at said first meeting, so called as aforesaid, then said Spearin and Gerald, or either of them, may call a second and third meeting, agreeably to the provisions of this act, for the purpose of further voting upon the acceptance of this charter as herein provided,' so that said section, as amended, shall read as follows:

At the first meeting of said corporation, called Acceptance of agreeably to seventh section of this act, the legal voters shall vote by ballot on the question of accepting this charter, and if the majority of the voters present at said meeting shall vote in favor of its acceptance, then this act shall take effect, and the corporation shall then proceed to organize and choose its officers; but if said charter is not accepted at said first meeting, so called as aforesaid, then said Spearin and Gerald, or either of them, may call a second and third meeting, agreeably to the provisions of this act, for the purpose of further voting upon the acceptance of this charter, as herein provided.'

Chapter 222.

An Act authorizing the building of a bridge across tide waters in the town of
Kennebunkport.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

James A. Strout and his associates, owners of Vaughn's island, in the town of Kennebunkport, are hereby authorized to build a bridge across Turbott's creek, in said town, to connect said island with the main land.

Chapter 223.

An Act to incorporate the Georges River Land Company.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

SECT. 1. Joseph E. Moore, William E. Vinal, C. S. Smith, N. C. Mehan, C. W. Stimpson, Atwood Levensaler, J. H. H. Hewitt, J. O. Robinson and T. A. Carr, all of Thomaston, Maine, their associates and successors are hereby constituted a body politic and corporate by the name of the Georges River Land Company of Thomaston, Maine, with all the rights, powers and privileges, and subject to all the duties and liabilities provided by the laws of this state thereto applicable.

SECT. 2. Said corporation is authorized to purchase, rent, or in any legal mode acquire and hold, lease, sell and convey real and personal estate and property, in their own right, and in trust, as they deem expedient, or for the purposes of said corporation; to make all necessary by-laws, rules and regulations, for the furtherance of the purposes of this act, and the government of said corporation, not inconsistent with the laws of the state.

SECT. 3. Said corporation is authorized to lease, at any time, any part or all of its property or franchises; purchase, erect or lease, furnish and carry on and maintain, or lease to others to carry on, a hotel, and mortgage the same as may be deemed for the interest of the association; purchase, erect or lease cottages, and all other buildings that may be needed or corect or lease in any way necessary for the comfort or convenience of the proprietors or their lessees; to receive in trust any money or property for the purpose of erecting and leasing cottages and all other buildings that may be in any way necessary or desired for the shelter, comfort or convenience of persons residing or sojourning in Maine, for health, recreation or business, on the land that may be owned or leased by said corporation, or put into its control as trustee as aforesaid; build and maintain wharves and landings, lay out, improve and ornament roads, walks and any land of said corporation; may own and operate conveyances by land or water, to and from, and upon any lands owned or leased by said corporation; lay cables under the water from any islands in which said company have any interest to the main land, for telephone

and or telegraph lines, or for electric light and power, may erect poles, and use electricity for the purpose of lighting and telephone lines, power, along any highway, for their own property, or for those desiring to use the same, and may make and establish all rules and regulations necessary for the protection of said cables.

SECT. 4. The capital stock of said corporation shall be Capital stock. such an amount as the stockholders, by a majority vote of those present and voting, shall determine from time to time, not exceeding five hundred thousand dollars, said stock to be divided into the number of shares, and of the par value, as the directors shall determine.

SECT. 5. Either of the first three corporators named in First meeting, this act, or if they are deceased, any person named as corporator may call the first meeting of said corporation for the purpose of organization, by giving written notice thereof to each of the other corporators, of the time and place of meeting, by mailing the same to such corporator at his usual place of abode, fifteen days at least before said meeting.

SECT. 6. This act shall take effect when approved.

Chapter 224.

An Act for the protection of fish in Little Ossipee pond and its tributaries, in the town of
Waterborough in York county.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

SECT. 1. No person shall take, kill, catch or fish for fish of any kind in Little Ossipee pond, so called, or any of its tributaries, in the town of Waterborough in York county, between October first and May first following, of each year. SECT. 2. Any person violating the provisions of this act Penalty, for shall forfeit the sum of ten dollars for each offense, and a further fine of one dollar for each fish so taken, killed or caught, to be recovered before any trial justice in said county, one-half to the complainant and one-half to the county of York.

Chapter 225.

An Act concerning boomage rights in Webb's River.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

SECT. 1. Frank Stanley, Henry O. Stanley, John S. Harlow, John F. Stanley and Charles A. Wilson, their associates, successors and assigns are hereby authorized and empowered to locate, build and maintain, in Webb's river between the village dam in Dixfield and Mexico on said river and the Staples bridge, so called, in the town of Carthage, piers, booms and side booms for the purpose of booming and holding logs, pulp wood and other lumber. Said piers and side booms shall be so located as not to interfere with the free passage of other lumber passing down said river; and in case a sheer boom is constructed and maintained it shall be so used as not to interfere with the passage of logs and other lumber.

SECT. 2. The parties named in the first section of this act, their associates, successors and assigns may take such lands as may be necessary for the erection and maintenance of said piers and booms, and for connecting the same with the shores, and may with their agents and teams, pass and repass over said shores and to and from them, over the lands of other

-damages, how persons, for the purposes aforesaid and for the managing said booms, making compensation therefor as is provided in the case of damages for lands taken in laying out highways.

Chapter 226.

An Act to incorporate the Orono Water Company.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

SECT. 1. Albert White, A. F. Lewis, E. N. Mayo and George F. Lunt, with their associates, successors and assigns, are hereby incorporated a body politic by the name of the Orono Water Company, for the purpose of supplying the town of Orono, or any part thereof, with pure water for domestic, manufacturing, private and public uses.
