SECT. 3. SECT. 5. Chapter 195.

An Act granting permission to the Androscoggin Lakes Transportation Company to construct a railroad.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

SECT. 1. Permission is hereby granted to the Androscoggin Lake Transportation Company, a corporation incorporated under the laws of Maine, to locate and construct a railroad from Angler's Retreat, Lake Welokennebacook, in township five, range one, through township C, and wild land in town of Upton, thence into township five, range one, ending at some point on the east shore of Lake Umbagog, north of Rapid river, in said township five, range one, county of Oxford. SECT. 2. Said corporation or its directors may from time to time determine what parts of their railroad they desire to operate, and at what portions of the year they desire to operate the same; and shall not be holden to operate any part thereof or at any portion of the year, except as they may determine as aforesaid.

Chapter 196.

An Act to incorporate the Dirigo Telegraph and Telephone Company.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

SECT. 1. George E. Macomber, John W. Chase, Manning S. Campbell and W. S. Choate, their associates, successors and assigns, are hereby made a body corporate by the name of the Dirigo Telegraph and Telephone Company, with the rights and privileges and subject to the duties imposed upon

kindred corporations by the laws of the state, and with power to establish a common seal, by said name to sue and be sued, to establish all by-laws and regulations not inconsistent with law for the government of their affairs, and to do any other acts lawfully incident to similar corporations.

SECT. 2. Said corporation shall have the right to locate and construct lines of telegraph and telephone in the counties of Kennebec and Somerset, upon and along any public highway, bridge, or upon the line of any railroad, first having obtained consent therefor of the municipal officers of any city or town where it is proposed to construct said line, and the consent of the officers of any railroad over which the same is to be built.

SECT. 3. Said corporation is hereby authorized to carry on the business of providing practical telegraphic and telephonic communication by the use of any proper telegraph or telephone appliance or invention, and may purchase, sell or lease any such appliance or invention, and operate the same. corporation may attach its wires or other appliances to buildings or trees, provided, that the owners of such buildings or trees shall first give written consent thereto.

Selectmen of Brunswick, authorized to appoint fire wards.

Chapter 197.

An Act respecting fire wards in the town of Brunswick.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

SECT. 1. The selectmen of the town of Brunswick are hereby empowered to appoint not exceeding ten legal voters of said town, to act as fire wards with all the powers within said town which the public statutes give to fire wards, and the appointees shall continue in office until the expiration of six days after the annual town meeting to be held in Brunswick, in March eighteen hundred and ninety-two.

SECT. 2. This act shall take effect when approved.

Chapter 198.

An Act to amend an act entitled "An Act to establish the Old Town Municipal Court."

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

SECT. 1. Section two of chapter one hundred and seventy1887, amended seven of the private and special laws of the state of Maine, enacted in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven is hereby amended by striking out the words "county of Penobscot" in the second line thereof, and inserting instead thereof the words 'state of Maine and learned in the law,' so that the first sentence of said section as amended, shall read as follows:

SECT. 2. Said court shall consist of one judge who shall appointment of. be an inhabitant of the state of Maine and learned in the law, and shall be appointed in the manner and for the term provided by the constitution of this state.'

Sec. 6, amended.

Concurrent jurisdiction with S. J. Court.

SECT. 2. Section six of said chapter is hereby amended by striking out the word "one" in the fourth line thereof, and inserting instead thereof the word 'two,' so that the first clause of said section as amended, shall read as follows:

SECT. 6. Said court shall have original jurisdiction concurrent with the supreme judicial court as follows; first, of all civil actions wherein the debt or damage demanded, exclusive of costs, does not exceed two hundred dollars, in

which any person summoned as trustee resides within the CHAP. 199 county of Penobscot, or, if a corporation, has an established

place of business in said county.'

SECT. 3. This act shall take effect when approved.

Chapter 199.

An Act authorizing the City of Lewiston to refund a part of its debt.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

To meet its bonds now outstanding and maturing in the year one thousand eight hundred and ninety-three, the city of Lewiston is authorized to issue bonds to an amount not exceeding one hundred thousand dollars, payable at a period, or periods not exceeding twenty years after the date thereof, and bearing interest at a rate not exceeding four per cent per annum, payable semi-annually. Said bonds shall be issued -how signed. under the seal of the city and shall be signed by the mayor and treasurer of the city, and the coupons attached to said bonds shall be signed by the city treasurer.

Chapter 200.

An Act to authorize the City of Saco to convey to the First Congregational Parish of Saco, certain land.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

SECT. 1. The city of Saco, in the county of York, is hereby authorized and empowered by its treasurer, when so directed by vote of the city government, and approval of its mayor, to convey by deed to the First Congregational Parish of Saco aforesaid, the right, title and interest of said Saco in and to a lot or parcel of land situated in said Saco, bounded and described as follows:
