Chapter 7.

An Act in relation to the compensation of the Sheriff of the county of Washington.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

SECT. 1. The sheriff of the county of Washington, from and after the first day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-one, shall receive from the treasury of said county an annual salary of five hundred dollars in quarterly payments, on the first days of January, April, July and October, instead of the compensation provided in fees, how dise section twenty-three of chapter eighty of the Revised Statutes; and it is hereby further provided, that the sheriff of said county shall not receive from any of his deputies any of the fees earned by said deputies, or any percentage thereon after said date.

SECT. 2. This act shall take effect when approved.

Chapter 8.

An Act to amend section eleven of chapter three hundred and seventy-eight of the Public Laws of eighteen hundred and eighty-five, relating to the erection of poles and lines for the purposes of Electricity.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

SECT. 1. Section eleven of chapter three hundred and seventy-eight of the public laws of eighteen hundred and eighty-five, is hereby amended by striking out the word "fifty" in the first line of said section, and inserting the words 'fifty-one', so that said section shall read as follows:

'SECT. 11. Sections one, two and four of chapter fiftyone of the Revised Statutes are hereby made applicable to persons or companies owning or using telephone lines, wholly or partly in the state.'

SECT. 2. This act shall take effect when approved.

Penalty for bringing pau.

Chapter 9.

An Act to amend chapter twenty-four, section forty-nine, Revised Statutes, referring to bringing Paupers into any town.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

Section forty-nine of chapter twenty-four of the Revised Statutes, relating to penalty for bringing paupers into a town is hereby amended, so that it shall read as follows:

'SECT. 49. Whoever brings into and leaves in a town pers into a town. where he has no settlement, any poor, indigent or insane person, having no visible means of support, or hires or procures such person to be so brought, or aids or abets in so doing, knowing such person to be poor, indigent or insane as aforesaid, with intent to charge such town in this state with the support of such person, shall be fined not exceeding three hundred dollars, or imprisoned not exceeding one year. And shall be further liable to any town or to the state for such sums of money as are expended by such town or by the state for the support and maintenance of such person which may be recovered in an action of the case.'

Chapter 10.

An Act to amend section thirty seven, of chapter sixty-three, of the Revised Statutes, relating to printed blanks for Courts of Probate.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

SECT. 1. Section thirty-seven of chapter sixty-three of the Revised Statutes is hereby amended, so that said section shall read as follows:

'SECT. 37. Each county shall provide all necessary printed blanks and record books for its probate courts, and courts of insolvency, and said record books may be printed to correspond with the printed blanks, and whenever the judge of probate deems it necessary or needful he may cause said. blanks, or any of them, to be revised by some suitable and competent person, and the cost and expense of such revision shall be paid by the county.'

SECT. 2. This act shall take effect when approved.

Chapter 11.

An Act to amend section five of chapter one hundred and eleven of the Revised Statutes, relating to recording of Holmes' notes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

Section five of chapter one hundred and eleven of the Sec. 5, ch. 111, Revised Statutes, is hereby amended by striking out the words "in a note for more than thirty dollars," in the fifth line of said section so that said section as amended, shall read as follows:

SECT. 5. No agreement that personal property bargained and delivered to another, for which a note is given, shall remain the property of the payee until the note is paid, is valid, unless it is made and signed as a part of the note; and no such agreement, although so made and signed is valid, except as between the original parties to said agreement, unless it is recorded like mortgages of personal property; and on receipt of twenty-five cents, each town clerk shall record such notes in a book kept for that purpose.'

Chapter 12.

An Act to fix the salary of the Superintendent of the Insane Hospital.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

SECT. 1. From and after the first day of January in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and ninety-one, the salary of the superintendent of the insane hospital shall be two thousand dollars per annum, payable quarterly on the first days of January, April, July and October of each year. SECT. 2. All acts and parts of acts inconsistent with this Inconsistent act, are hereby repealed.

Chapter 13.

An Act to fix the salary of the Judge of Probate for Androscoggin county.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

SECT. 1. From and after the first day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-one, the salary of the judge of probate, for the county of Androscoggin shall be six hundred dollars per year instead of the sum now fixed by law.

SECT. 2. This act shall take effect when approved.

Chapter 14.

An Act to establish a salary for the Clerk of Courts in Lincoln County.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

SECT. 1. From and after the first day of April, eighteen hundred and ninety-one, the salary of the clerk of courts of Lincoln county shall be eight hundred dollars per annum, payable quarterly from the county treasury, on the last days of March, June, September and December of each year, for the quarter preceding, to be in full for all services as clerk of the supreme judicial court and of the county commissioners' court; and he shall account, under oath, for all fees received by him, or which he is entitled to receive by virtue of his office, and pay them over to the county treasurer, on the last days of March, June, September and December of each year. SECT. 2. This act shall take effect when approved.

Chapter 16.

An Act to increase the compensation of the County Commissioners of the county of York.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

SECT. 1. From and after the first day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-one, the salary of the county commissioners of the county of York shall be the sum of two dollars and fifty cents per day instead of the sum now fixed by law, while actually employed in the service of the county, including the time actually spent in traveling, for which each shall have ten cents a mile for the distance actually traveled.

SECT. 2. This act shall take effect when approved.

Chapter 17.

An Act to fix the salary of the County Attorney of the county of Washington.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:
