ANNEXING FARM OF PAPHRO AND SHERMAN S. STEELE TO PROSPECT HILL SCHOOL DISTRICT.

PASSED 1847.

Upon the petition of Paphro Steele and Sherman S. Steele, of the town of Hartford, showing to this assembly that at the session thereof in May, 1831, all that part of the northwest school district in the town of Hartford, lying southwesterly of Wood's river, so called, was constituted a separate school district, by the name of the Prospect Hill school district, and so continues at the present time; that their farm, on which the said Sherman S. Steele resides, is a part of the northwest school district and lies along the northeasterly bank of said Wood's river, extending northerly to the south line of the town of Bloomfield, and that the only access to said farm and the dwelling house thereon is by a bridge over said river, connecting with the public highway running along the southwesterly side or bank of said river; and that the distance from said dwelling house on said farm to the school house belonging to the northwest school district aforesaid, is over two miles, but that the distance from said dwelling to the school house of the Prospect Hill district is less than one mile; that since the incorporation of the Prospect Hill school district, another school district has been organized from the north part of said northwest school district, not including the farm of said petitioners, by the name of the Gravel Hill school district, by which said petitioners' farm is entirely cut off and left detached from said. northwest district; and that at a meeting of the north west school district, held on the 18th day of March, A. D. 1847, it was voted unanimously to release the said petitioners' land from said district; and also at a meeting of the Prospect Hill district, held on the 6th day of March, 1847, it was voted unanimously to receive said land as a part of the said Prospect Hill school district; praying that said farm may be annexed to and be made a part of the Prospect Hill school district. Which petition, service thereof having been duly acknowledged, came to this assembly in due course; and the parties having been heard, and this assembly having inquired into the facts stated in said petition find the same to be true; whereupon,

Resolved by this Assembly, That the farm of the said Paphro and Sherman S. Steele, lying west of the Gravel Hill school district in the town of Hartford, and northeastwardly of Wood's river, and on which the said Sherman S. Steele now resides, be and the same is hereby annexed to, and made a part of the Prospect Hill school district in said town of Hartford.

ANNEXING PART OF THE PROSPECT HILL SCHOOL DISTRICT TO THE WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF HARTFORD.

PASSED 1855.

Resolved by this Assembly, That all that part of the Prospect Hill school district lying within the following described limits in the town of Hartford, viz, commencing at the middle of the highway that passes the asylum, at the dividing line between the west middle district of the town of Hartford and the Prospect Hill school district, thence running westwardly through the middle of said highway, to the line dividing the towns of Hartford and West Hartford, thence running southwardly upon said division line to the south boundary of the Prospect Hill school district, thence eastwardly following the southern boundary of said Prospect Hill school district to the line dividing the said Prospect Hill school district and the west middle school district, thence northwardly by said division line to the place of beginning, be and the same is hereby annexed to the west middle district, and the first school society of the town of Hartford.

AUTHORIZING THE HARTFORD SOUTH DISTRICT TO BORROW MONEY AT SEVEN PER CENT. INTEREST.

PASSED 1851.

Upon the petition of the Hartford South School District of the city and county of Hartford, showing to this assembly that they have purchased a site and are erecting a school house in said district, at an expense of about thirteen thousand dollars; that they are under the necessity of obtaining a loan for a portion of the expense, which, for reasons set forth in their petition, they are unable to obtain at the legal rate of interest: therefore,

Resolved, That the south school district in the city and county of Hartford, be at liberty, and they are hereby authorized and empowered to borrow, for the purpose of finishing their school house now in the process of erection, any sum or sums of money, not exceeding sixty-five hundred dollars, and to pay interest therefor at the rate of seven per cent. per annum, together with such taxes as may be levied or assessed upon said sum, upon the person or persons loaning the same until paid, any law to the contrary notwithstanding.

ANNEXING A PART OF THE WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL DISTRICT, IN HARTFORD FIRST SOCIETY, TO THE SECOND NORTH SCHOOL DISTRICT.

PASSED 1849.

Resolved by this Assembly, That all that part of the west middle district of the first school society of the town of Hartford, bounded as follows, viz, north by the center line of Walnut street, so called, east by the west line of the city of Hartford, south by a line parallel to the said center line of said street and one hundred and seventy feet distant therefrom, west by a line in continuation of the present western termination of said street, be and the same hereby is, together with the persons residing on the same, annexed to and made a part of the second north school district, in said school society.

ANNEXING HARVEY SPERRY AND MILES BARNES, OF PLYMOUTH, WITH THEIR LANDS, &C., TO THIRD SCHOOL DISTRICT IN SCHOOL SOCIETY OF HAR. WINTON.

PASSED 1855.

Upon the petition of Havey Sperry and Miles Barnes, of Plymouth, on file, which said petition was duly served upon the school societies of Plymouth and Harwinton, and upon the thirteenth school district in said Plymouth school society, and upon the third school district in said Harwinton school society, and returned to, and entered in the office of the secretary of state, and in all other respects conformable to law:

Resolved by this Assembly, That the lands comprising the homesteads of and occupied by Harvey Sperry and Miles Barnes, lying in said thirteenth school district in said Plymouth school society, contiguous to and adjoining the town of Harwinton, with the buildings thereon, be and they hereby are annexed to and made a part of the third school district in the school society of Harwinton; and that said Harvey Sperry and Miles Barnes, and those who may succeed them in the occupation of said land and buildings, shall be members of said third school district in said school society of Harwinton, and be entitled to all the privileges and subject to all the liabilities of the inhabitants of said third school district.

ANNEXING BOOTH'S HILL SCHOOL DISTRICT TO THE SCHOOL SOCIETY OF HUNTINGTON

PASSED 1849.

Resolved by this Assembly, That the territory included within the limits of the school district of Booth's Hill, with all the inhabitants residing thereon, be and hereby is set off from the school society of Trumbull, and be annexed and become a part of the school society of Huntington.

ANNEXING ABEL MAIN TO THE SCHOOL SOCIETY IN LEDYARD.

PASSED 1843.

Resolved, That the said Abel Main be and he is hereby separted from said school society of North Stonington and annexed to the fourteenth school district in the school society of Ledyard.

ANNEXING DUDLEY MAIN TO THE FOURTEENTH SCHOOL DISTRICT OF LEDYARD.

PASSED 1853.

Resolved, That Dudley Main, of North Stonington, and now residing in the third school district in said town, be and he is hereby set to and associated with the fourteenth school district of Ledyard, and that he and the houses and lands by him owned in said district, in North Stonington, and his list be computed, reckoned and considered, to all intents and purposes, and for the allowance of school money, to said fourteenth school district, as part and parcel thereof, and of the school society of which said last mentioned district constitutes a part.

CONFIRMING VOTE DIVIDING THE THIRD DISTRICT IN LITCHFIELD FIRST SCHOOL SOCIETY.

PASSED 1850.

WHEREAS, the third school district in the first school society in Litchfield, on the 13th of November, 1849, by the formation of a new district therefrom, called the fifteenth district, has become reduced so as to contain less than forty persons between the ages of four and sixteen years; therefore, for the purpose of legalizing the proceedings of said society therein,

Resolved, That the vote of said school society dividing said district, and all acts done in pursuance thereof, be and they are hereby declared to be valid in law.

INCORPORATING SIXTEENTH SCHOOL DISTRICT, FIRST SCHOOL SOCIETY OF

LITCHFIELD.

PASSED 1856.

Upon the petition of William Butler, James Scovell and others, of the ninth school district, in the first school society in Litchfield:

Resolved by this Assembly, That all the south part of the ninth school district in said school society, lying south of the house and farm of Michael Bronson, and running from thence east to Waterbury river and west to the west line of the present district, be and the same is hereby made one separate and entire school district, by the name of Sixteenth School District, in said school society, with all the privileges and immunities belonging to the other school districts in this state, to the inhabitants aforesaid, and their successors forever, residing in the limits aforesaid.

INCORPORATING THE EAGLE FACTORY SCHOOL DISTRICT IN THE TOWN OF

MANSFIELD.

PASSED 1837.

Upon the petition of Thomas Clark and others, inhabitants of the first school district, in the second school society, in the town of Mansfield, in the county of Tolland, praying to be incorporated as a school district, as per petition on file, dated the 17th day of April, 1837:
