BUSINESS MEN, NOTARIES PUBLIC, JUSTICES OF THE PEACE, CON
BUSINESS TRANSACTIONS OF ANY KIND, OR
THE object of this book is to present in a clear and concise manner the law of Wisconsin as applied to business transactions, although in many respects its scope is somewhat wider. The book is designed primarily for the use of business men, and also for the student and general reader who desires to acquaint himself with the law governing every-day affairs. The book has been prepared in the hope that it will supply a long-felt need to the people of the state.
The authors' aim has been to state in plain language the principles of law bearing on the various subjects treated, so as to put the reader in a position to ascertain the law governing a given state of facts by applying the principles stated. All technical terms have been avoided as far as possible, and where it has been deemed necessary to retain them, a proper explanation of them has been given. The decisions of the Supreme Court of Wisconsin have been consulted on every topic treated, and wherever possible, the law has been stated as announced by that court, but as this book is not intended for lawyers, no citations to the reports are given.
As considerable of the law contained in a book of this kind is statutory, which is in many respects different in the various states, the authors have endeavored to make this book of the highest utility to Wisconsin readers by restricting it to that state. Most of the principles of law which it contains, however, find application in the United States generally.
The authors hope that this book may give an intelligent
reader a sufficient knowledge of law to enable him to transact business with safety. A careful perusal of the book will dispel the notion, held by many, that the law consists of a mass of unreasonable rules and technicalities. It will be found that the principles of the law of business are comparatively few, that they are based on reason and justice, and are in essence the customs of business men, and the result of long experience.
The book contains a large number of forms, which can easily be altered to meet particular requirements. The forms have been adapted to the laws of Wisconsin, thus making them safe and convenient for use in this state. It is hopec that they will add to the utility of the book.
