II. MARRIAGE CERTIFICATES.

(In most of the States, Mayors, Recorders, Aldermen, County Judges, Judges of the Peace, and Clergymen of all denomina tions, may perform the marriage ceremony, and grant certificates of marriage.)

1. Common Certificate of Marriage.

This is to certify, that Frank Howard, and Louisa Walsh, were, with their mutual consent, lawfully joined together in holy matrimony, which was solemnized by me, in the presence of credible witnesses.

2. Another Form of a Certificate of Marriage.

Berks County, Town of Reading, 85,

I do hereby certify, that on the 5th day of February, 1853, at the house of John Polk, (or in the church of the Holy Trinity,) in the said town of Reading, George Adams, of Reading, and Eliza Scott, of the same place, were, with their mutual consent, lawfully joined together in holy matrimony, which was solemnized by me in the presence of John Polk, of Reading, and Frederic Tyler, of the same place, attesting witnesses: And I do further certify, that the said George Adams and Eliza Scott, are known to me, (or, were satisfactorily proved, by the oath of Frederic Tyler, known to me,) to be the persons described in this certificate; that I ascertained, previous to the solemnization of the said marriage, that the said parties were of sufficient age to contract the same; and that, after due inquiry by me made, there appeared no lawful impediment to such marriage.

Given under my hand, this 18th day of September, 1850.

1. Gewöhnlicher Trauungsschein.

Hierdurch wird bezeugt, daß Francis Howard und Louisa Walsh mit ihrer wechselseitigen Zustimmung geseßlich in den Stand der heiligen Ehe mit einander verbunden worden sind; welche Verbindung durch mich in Gegenwart glaubwürdiger Zeugen feierlich vollzogen worden ist.

2. Andere Form eines Trauungsscheines.

Ich bezeuge hiermit, daß am 5. Februar 1853 im Hause des John Polk (oder: in der Dreifaltigkeitskirche) der besagten Stadt Reading George Adams von Reading und Eliza Scott von ebenda mit ihrer wechselseitigen Zustimmung geseßlich in den Stand der heiligen Ehe mit einander verbunden worden sind und die Trauungs-Ceremonie durch mich in Gegenwart von John Polk von Reading und Frederick Tyler von da, als anwohnende Zeugen, vollzogen worden ist: Und ich bezeuge ferner, daß die besagten George Adams und Eliza Scott mir als die in diesem Trauscheine bezeichneten Personen bekannt find (oder, daß der mir bekannte John Polk beschworen hat, daß sie dieselben sind), daß ich vor der Vollziehung der Trauungsfeier mich überzeugt habe, daß die Neuvermählten das geseßliche Alter hatten, um einen Ehebund einzugehen, und daß sich mir, nach genauer Untersuchung, kein gesetzliches Ehehinderniß ergeben hat.

8. Alderman's Certificate to the Certificate of Marriage, granted by a Clergyman.

I do hereby certify, that Isaac Wright, Pastor of the Church of the Holy Trinity, &c., by whom the foregoing, (or annexed, or, within,) certificate is signed, is personally known to me, and has acknowledged the execution of said certificate in my presence, this 13th day of September, 1850: (or, that on the 13th day of September, 1850, personally came before me, John Polk, to me known, who being by me duly sworn, did depose and say, that he was well acquainted with Isaac Wright, Pastor of the Church of the Holy Trinity, &c., and knew him to be the same person who executed the foregoing (or, annexed; or, within) certificate; and that he was present and saw the said Isaac Wright execute the same.

This indenture of two parts, made this 18th day of August, 1851, between Jacob Trautmann of the first part, and Augusta Trautmann, his wife, of the second part, witnesseth: That whereas some unhappy differences have lately arisen between the said Jacob Trautmann, and Augusta Trautmann, his wife, they have each of them mutually agreed to live separate and apart from each other: Now therefore this agreement witnesseth that the said Jacob Trautmann doth hereby agree with the said Augusta Trautmann, his wife, in manner and form following, that is to say, that it may be lawful to and for the said Augusta Trautmann, his wife, and that he, the said Jacob Trautmann, shall and will permit and suffer her, the said Augusta Trautmann, from time to time, and at all times from henceforth, during her natural life, to live separate and apart from him, and to reside and be in such place and places, and in such family and families, and with such relations, friends and other persons, and to follow and carry on suck trade and business, as she, the said Augusta Trautmann, from time to time, at her will and pleasure

Ich bezeuge hiermit, daß Isaac Wright, Pastor an der Dreifaltigkeitskirche, durch den der vorstehende (oder beigeschlossene, oder der hierin beschriebene) Trauschein unterzeichnet wurde, mir persön lich bekannt ist, und heute, den 13. September 1850 den besagten Trauschein in meiner Gegenwart anerkannt hat (oder, daß am 13. September der mir bekannte John Polk persönlich vor mir erschienen ist und nach vorangegangener Beeldigung angegeben und ausgesagt hat, daß er mit dem Pastor Isaac Wright wohl bekannt sei und ihn als dieselbe Person kenne, welche vorstehenden (oder beigeschlossenen, oder hierin geschriebenen] Trauschein ausgestellt hat, und daß er gegenwärtig gewesen sei, und den besagten Isaac Wright denselben habe ausstellen sehen.) Dieser zweiseitige Vertrag, abgeschlossen den 18. August 1851 zwischen Jakob Trautmann einerseits, und Auguste Trautmann geb. Schick, seiner Ehefrau, andererseits, bezeugt: daß, nachdem unglückliche Mißverständnisse zwischen dem besagten Jakob Trautmann und seiner Ehefrau Auguste Trautmann entstanden sind, beide sich wechselseitig verständigt haben, getrennt und geschieden von einander zu leben: Daher beurkundet diese Uebereinkunft nun, daß der befagte Jakob Trautmann sich mit seiner Ehefrau, der besagten Auguste Trautmann, auf folgende Art und Weise verständigt hat, nämlich: daß es seiner Ehefrau, der besagten Auguste Trautmann erlaubt sein soll, und daß er, der besagte Jakob Trautmann, gestatten und zugeben will und wird, daß sie, die besagte Auguste Trautmann, Fortan zu jeder Zeit und zu allen Zeiten während ihres natürlichen Lebens geschieden und getrennt von ihm lebe und an einem solchen Ort oder Orten und in einer solchen Familie oder Familien und bei solchen Verwandten, Freunden und andern Personen wohne und sich aufhalte und solche Geschäfte und Verkehr treibe und führe, wie es ihr, der besagten Auguste Trautmann, zu irgend einer Zeit nach ihrem Gefallen unt Willen gut dünkt (troß ihres gegenwärtigen

(notwithstanding Ler present coverture, and as if she were a female sole and unmarried) shall think fit; and that he, the said Jacob Trautmann, shall not nor will at any time or times hereafter sue her, the said Augusta, in any court or courts of this State, or elsewhere, for living separate and apart from him; or compel her to cohabit with him, or to sue, molest, disturb or trouble her for such living separate and apart from him, or any other person or persons whomsoever for receiving, harbouring or entertaining her; nor shall or will without the consent of the said Augusta visit her, or knowingly come into any house or place where she shall or may dwell, reside or be; or send or cause to be sent any letter or message to her; nor shall or will at any time hereafter claim or demand any of the monies, rings, jewels, plate, clothes, linen, woolen, household goods or stock in trade, which she, the said Augusta Trautmann, now hath in her custody, power or possession, or which she shall or may at any time hereafter buy or purchase.

2. Another Form of Articles of Separation.

This indenture of three parts, made the 3d day of February, 1850, between John Murphy, of the first part, and Lucy Murphy, his wife, of the second part, and Theodore Cutting, of the third part, witnesseth: Whereas, divers unhappy disputes and differences have arisen, between the said, party of the first part, and his said wife, for which reason they have consented and agreed to live separate and apart from each other during their natural life: Now, therefore, the said party of the first part, in consideration of the premises, and in pursuance thereof, doth hereby covenant, promise and agree, to and with the said Theodore Cutting, and also to and with his said wife, that he shall and will allow and permit his said wife, Lucy Murphy, to reside and be in such place and places, and in family and families, as she may from time to time choose, or think fit to do; and that he shall not, nor will, at any time sue, molest, disturb, or trouble any person whomsoever, for receiving, entertaining or harboring her; and that he will not claim, or demand, any of her money
