to-day as if he had never been the President of the Association. I am much indebted to you, and appreciate the great honor, of your presidency, and hope, in spite of the fact that our dear friend Crosby may be away next year, that the next Convention will be even better than this.

MR. CROSBY: I congratulate the Association on the election of General Harries as President.

PRESIDENT-ELECT HARRIES:- Is the Committee on Resolutions ready to report?

REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON RESOLUTIONS. To the American Electric Railway Association:

GENTLEMEN.—The Committee on Resolutions begs leave to offer the following:

WHEREAS, Illness having deprived this Association of the valued services of our esteemed President during the sessions of this Convention, therefore be it

Resolved, That we express our sincere regrets that Hon. Thomas N. McCarter has been thus prevented from rounding out the official duties of his administration, and be it further

Resolved, That our heartiest felicitations are hereby tendered to our worthy retiring President on the fact that he is convalescent from his period of disability, and we express the earnest hope that he will be speedily restored to the fullness of complete health and vigorous strength.

PRESIDENT-ELECT HARRIES:- Gentlemen, what action will you take on the resolution?

MR. HEGARTY :: I move the adoption of the resolution. (Motion carried.)

WHEREAS, Unexampled prosperity and progress has marked the course of our Association during the last twelve months. Reports read at this Convention give indubitable proof of the tangible growth we have enjoyed as measured by increased membership and enlarged receipts, both of which factors make for the broadening of our scope of usefulness and the accomplishment of the purposes for which we exist; and,

WHEREAS, In addition we feel convinced that the Association has gained intangible benefits of incalculable value from the remarkable journey undertaken last spring by our President and a number of associates of this and the Manufacturers' Association, at great personal sacrifice of time and comfort; therefore, be it

Resolved, That our sincere thanks are tendered to our esteemed President, our worthy Vice-Presidents, our efficient and indefatigable Secretary-Treasurer, and the other members of the official family for their untiring efforts and unselfish devotion to the cause of advancing the welfare of the Association.

MR. HEGARTY:- I move the adoption of the resolution. (Motion seconded and carried.)

WHEREAS, General George H. Harries having been unexpectedly called upon to preside over the deliberations of this body, therefore be it.

Resolved, That we express our hearty appreciation of the uniform courtesy extended by him and the efficient manner in which he has conducted the proceedings of the several sessions.

(Mr. Burleigh put the motion on the foreging resolution which was unanimously carried.)

Resolved, That this Association owes a debt of gratitude, which it takes this means of acknowledging, to the Manufacturers' Association. We feel that the members of that organization have shown a commendable spirit of ready and helpful co-operation in the task of solving the problems which confront us. We desire to express specific appreciation of their liberality and whole hearted interest in the advancement of the industry as manifested by their contribution to the expense of and the personal part taken by President W. L. Conwell and Mr. Charles C. Pierce, as their representatives, in the trans-continental campaign of education conducted under the joint auspices of the two Associations last spring. We are pleased to extend to them the fellowship of colleagues and we are not unmindful of the efforts they put forth in assembling such a comprehensive exhibit as has been shown for our benefit and which we regard as one of the most helpful and instructive features of the Convention.

PRESIDENT-ELECT HARRIES:- Gentlemen, what action will you take on the resolution?

MR. DUFFY:- I move that the resolution be adopted. (Motion seconded and carried.)

Resolved, That we are greatly indebted to the members who composed the various committees during the year just closing, for the time, labor and talents they devoted to the corsideration of the several subjects assigned to them and for the very able and interesting papers which represent the results of their efforts.

(The resolution was unanimously adopted.)

Resolved, That the thanks of the Association be, and they are hereby extended to the daily and technical press for courtesies extended. In this connection we desire to emphasize the feelings of gratitude we owe to the McGraw Publishing Company and the Electric Traction Weekly, especially to the former for its enterprise and manifestation of good will in providing gratuitously an accurate, comprehensive and altogether excellent daily publication of the proceedings of the Convention.

(Resolution was unanimously adopted.)

MR. BURLEIGH:- Mr. President, the next is a very sad duty, the announcement by the Committee of the names of deceased members. The memorial that the Committee wish to offer is this:

Resolved, That the thanks of the Association be and the same are, hereby tendered to the Saddle and Sirloin Club for its hospitality in placing its rooms at our disposal for the sessions of the Convention.

(On motion, duly seconded and carried, the resolution was unanimously adopted.)

Resolved, That we record our acknowledgment of the courtesies extended by the railroads in and about Chicago to the members of our Association.

SECRETARY DONECKER:—Mr. Chairman, I have here a letter from Mr. Edwin C. Faber, Vice-President of the Aurora, Elgin and Chicago Railroad Company, inviting the members of the Association to participate in a trip over the lines of that company to Aurora and return, leaving at 2 o'clock P. M., Friday, with a ten minute stop at the power station on the return. Transportation may be had at station 62, upon presentation of the members' badges.

PRESIDENT-ELECT HARRIES:- If there is nothing further, a motion to adjourn will be in order.

On motion, duly seconded and carried, the Convention then adjourned sine die.
