In case of intendant's death, &c.—persons refusing to act as intendant page when elected, to forfeit £30.-a warden, £30.-Penalty for intendant and wardens, misbehaving in office-persons acting under the law, may plead the general issue

Intendant, how to be elected-managers to be appointed, and election "held-vacancies, how to be filled who eligible as intendant or warden,

Powers of the intendant-wardens to be elected in the respective wards-when election for wardens to be holden,

Who may vote at elections-names of voters to be inscribed in books→→→ list of names to be taken from tax book-persons taking a false oath-how to be punished,

Wardens to be elected by a general ticket-intendant to be elected at the same time-bounds of the city enlarged,

City council empowered to define wards-to appoint escheator-confirmation of the division of wards declared by an act of the Legislature, passed 19th, dec. 1809,

City bounds-commissioners of fortifications to be annually appointed, &c. and to rent lands-lands attached to the forfications of charles-: ton, 'may be leased for five years-city council authorized to draw lotteries,

Assize of bread-council invested with the powers granted to the commissioners of fortifications-power to regulate buildings on the curtain line-all acts of the legislature which produce a clashing of jurisdiction between the state magistrates, and the city officers repealed-in case of sickness of the intendant, one of the wardens to act,

Any person inveigling or enticing any other person to play at cards, &c. shall on conviction, be deemed guilty of defrauding and swindling-forfeiture on conviction-if not paid how dealt with-complaint, how to be made-proceedings thereon,

Securities given for paying gaming debts, to be deemed fraudulent and void,

Court to determine causes of a civil nature, and for trial of offenders against by-laws of the city-to be a court of record-called inferior city court to be held by the recorder appointed, during good behaviour-all controversies exceeding jurisdiction of a magistrate to be tried by a jury,

City Council to cause a jury box to be made-jury list provided and
jurors to be drawn as in the court of sessions and common pleas-
jurisdiction of the court not to exceed $100, inclusive of costs and
charges,

What persons can sue and be sued in this court-when the court sits-
when motions for new trial, and arrest of judgment are determin-
ed-proceedings, how to be conducted-court vested with powers
to grant rules-to hear and determine questions of law,
Court not to hold plea, where the title of land comes directly into
question-appeal to court of common pleas allowed-writs of man-

damus and prohibition may issue from court of common pleas and page sessions into said court-intendant, wardens and recorder to prescribe and regulate the practice of said court-fees of attornies, clerks and sheriffs, Recorder not permitted to plead in the superior court, in any cause which has been argued before him-jurisdiction of the justices of the peace and quorum, except in charlesten, extended to $30, (this extension of jurisdiction, declared uncoustitutional) Keeper of gaol in charleston district authorized to receive prisoners committed by authority of said court-inferior city court, to sit once a month-city council may take toll at the lower end of queen-street -intendant and seven wardens to make a quorum, except to impose taxes, and appropriate money.

Price of licence for keeping a billiard table, £50-to retail liquors→→ city council may licence theatres-bodies corporate, may sue for debts, due by their members,

Commissioners of the roads to be answerable to the intendant and
wardens for monies received-city council to have power to take up
and confine to labour strolling beggars--the powers of the governor
respecting quarantine, to be extended to the intendant and wardens
of Charleston, &c.

Vessels to be detained for violating the quarantine laws-pilots liable
to penalty, for violating quarantine laws-vessels to be detained
by force of arms-salary of the keeper of the lazaretto to be dis-
continued, and $1000 in lieu thereof vested in the city council,
City officers exempted from serving on juries-certain officers ex-
empted-no street to be opened without special permission,
Penalty for violating the provisions of this act-city council, (with the
approbation of the board appointed by the legislature) authorized
to widen streets-lots to be valued
How lots are to be valued, where owner refuse to appoint freeholders→→→
low lots within the city to be drained-expences of opening Pinck-
ney-street, how to be assessed-cellars to be pumped out,
Commissioners appointed-broad-street to be made straight-no street
to be less than sixty feet wide-this act a public act,
City Council to elect a coroner-assemblies of slaves and free negroes,
declared unlawful-magistrates, sheriffs, mililtia officers, and officers
of the patrol, required to disperse such meetings,
Corporal punishment, not exceeding twenty lashes to be inflicted on
them-in charleston they are to be delivered to the master of the
work-house-in the country to the nearest magistrate-persons dis-
persing them, not to be sued or prosecuted for it,

Slaves, free negroes, &c. assembled for religious worship, before the
rising and after the going down of the sun, may be dispersed-per-
sons prosecuting, and failing to convict, to pay treble costs-reli-
gious societies not to be interrupted before nine o'clock in the even-
ing, provided a majority of them be white persons
Council to contract with U. States for maintenance of marine hospital,
Council to levy a duty of ten cents per ton-city council to render an
account to comptroller for monies appropriated for the support of the
poor-act passed 19th of Dec. 1801, not to lessen the power of
the corporation of charleston,
