24. Provided also, That the buildings necessary for carrying on the aforesaid trade, shall be erected with brick, and covered with tile or slate, and the aforesaid trades be carried on in the aforesaid places and no other whatsoever.

And the Intendant shall be, and he is hereby authorized and empowered to draw an order on the City Treasurer for the immediate payment of every such account, without submitting the same to the previous inspection of the City Council; and the City Treasurer shall pay the amount of every such order to the Clerk of the Board of Fire-Masters, whose duty it shall be to distribute without delay, the money among those persons who were actually employed in working the engines, giving to every one

so much as he may be entitled to, on producing a certificate from the manager of the engine at which he worked, or from the Board of Fire-Masters, as the case may require.

31. That it shall and may be lawful for the Fire- Houses may Masters, or any two of them, to enter into the houses, Fire-Masters out houses, stables and yards of every owner or ten- to search for ant of the same in Charleston, whenever they shall see occasion, and enquire, search and examine, if any quantities of gunpowder, hay, straw, fodder, pitch, tar, rosin, turpentine, unpacked cotton, hemp, oil, or other combustible matters, are lodged in any such place, within the said city, which may be in danger of taking fire, and if the said Fire-Masters or any two or more of them, shall find that there is apparent danger that fire may be communicated by such combustibles, they shall admonish the tenant or owner of such house or houses, to remove the same, and in case such person or persons shall refuse or neglect to remove the same within twelve hours from such notice being given, the said Fire-Masters, or any two of them, are empowered and directed to cause the same to be removed and lodged in some secure place, at the charge of such owner or tenant, and on refusal to pay the same, to be recovered in the Inferior City Court, and a fine of fifty dollars for every such offence, to use of the city.

32. That the Fire-Masters, or any two of them, shall have power to examine into the situation of any chimney or other fire place in Charleston, and if they N

34. That from and immediately after the passing of this ordinance, the city shall be divided, and is hereby divided into twenty-eight divisions, which division shall be as follows:
