the work, done or put up contrary to such directions, shall be liable, to be demolished by order of the Board of Commissioners of the Streets and Lamps, and at the proper costs and charges of the person or persons, herein offending as aforesaid.

4. That no person or persons whatsoever, shall adRegulations vance the steps of any house or building, more than for building fifteen inches, into any street; nor shall any person or persons, make or erect, or cause or suffer to be made or erected, in front of any street, lane, alley or open court, any fixture, annexation, or projection whatever, extending or to extend more than fifteen inches beyond the foundation of the house or building, or beyond the extremity of the lot, to which it is to be attached; (sign boards, awnings made of cloth, and balconies excepted) nor shall any person or persons make, or cause or suffer to be made, any cellar door in front of any street, lane, alley or open court, which shall extend more than four feet beyond the foundation of the house or building, to which it appertains, (except where foot pavements are not four feet wide, in which case cellar doors shall not extend beyond the width of such pavement) or which shall be more than one inch above the surface of the ground, or of the foot pavement, as the case may be, or which shall have another cover, than one rounded at the upper edges, or which shall be secured by a bar across the cover; under a penalty of ten dollars for each and every such offence, and for each and every day, while any such offence shall or may continue; besides which, all such steps, fixtures, annexations, or projections, of whatever description the same may be, as shall be made or put up differently from the regulations herein and hereby prescribed, shall be removeable by order of the Board of Commissioners of Streets and Lamps, at the expence of the offending party or parties.

5. 6. That no white person or persons whosoever, shall, for the purpose of exposing any goods, commodities, permitted to or other articles for sale, place or cause to be placed, keep a stand any such goods, commodities, or other articles whatsoever, or any table, bench, stall-board, box, or other appendage, in any street, lane, alley, or public thoroughfare, or any foot pavement, within the city; or shall keep any cellar door or cellar doors, in front of any street, lane alley, or public thoroughfare, or on any foot pavement, open at night, or longer open in the day time, than while the same is or are in immediate use; under a penalty of twenty dollars, for each Penalty. and every such offence, and for each and every night or day, as the case may be, on which any such offence is committed. Masters shall be permitted, to expose before their stores, such goods and commodities as they sell at public auction; but not to take up more room, than the front of their respective vendue stores, and to the distance of six feet beyond the same. make application to a Commissioner of the Streets and Lamps, for the use of so much of the street or public way, as shall not exceed the front of the lot, on which such building is to be erected, nor extend more than six feet into the street; which space such person or persons shall forthwith enclose, with a sufficient fence at least six feet high, in order to deposit within the same, the requisite materials for building and repairing; and such fence, together with the remaining materials, he, she, or they, shall remove, as soon as the work be finished, or whenever any two Commissioners of Streets and Lamps shall require it; on pain of forfeiting two dollars for every hour, that such fence, or such materials, shall afterwards remain unremoved; and on pain also, of having the same re moved, at his, her or their expence, by the CityMarshal.

8. 9. or houses, yard or yards, enclosure or enclosures, or Scavenger's other dependences, may be removed and carried away in due time, it shall be the duty of the City Scavengers, to enter into, and pass through, every street, lane, alley, and open court, in their respective divisions, daily, or as often as they may be directed by the Chairman of the Commissioners of the Streets and Lamps, for the purpose of carrying off -all such dirt, filth, rubbish, and other like stuff, as may lie exposed, or be brought out from the lots of the inhabitants. And, upon entering into as well as in passing through, any street, lane, alley, or open court, every driver of a Scavenger's cart shall, by ringing a hand-bell opposite to every house, give notice to the inhabitants, to bring or send out all such dirt, filth, rubbish, or other like stuff, as shall have been collected within their respective premises; all which shall be deposited by the said Scavengers, in such place or places as shall be pointed out by the Commissioners of the Streets and Lamps, or by the Chair Penalty for man of their Board. And every person, hiring, using, or employing any Scavenger's cart, horse, or labourer, so as to divert them, or any of them, from the public work, shall for each and every such offence forfeit and pay the sum of ten dollars.

11.
