ZEBULON SOUTHARD, of
Fishkill, Duchess County,
New York.

Will dated May 28, 1782.

Proved March 11, 1788.
Recorded in Liber A, p. 64.

In the name of God, Amen! I, Zebulun Southard, of Fishkill, Duchess County, State of New York, Farmer, being very sick and weak, but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God, calling unto mind the mortality of my body, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament, that is to say: Principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul unto the hands of Almighty God that gave it, and my body I recommend to the earth, to be burried in a decent burial at the discretion of my Executors, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God; and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give, devise, and dispose of the same in manner following, that is to say: All my funeral charges and just debts paid, I will that my wife Jane, my daughter Catherine, and my son Zebulun each have one feather bed and bedding, alike in quality, and the child my wife Jane is now pregnant with one bed and bedding equal as the other children. I will my Executors to sell as much of my personal estate, as soon as convenient, to pay my debts,

excepting my negro, and if they cannot conveniantly keep him, to be sold. I will my said farm I now live on to be kept for my wife and children until my children are of age, and they brought up at the discretion of my Executors on said farm, and then to be sold, and the money arising from said farm to be equally divided between my wife Jane, my daughter Sarah, my daughter Catherine, and my son Zebulun, and the child my wife Jane is now pregnant with, equally alike, to them and their heirs forever. And Lastly, I do nominate, constitute, make and ordain this, that Richard Southard, Senior; Richard Southard, Junior; Gilbert Southard and Rudolph Phillips, my Executors of this my last Will and Testament, and hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disannull all and every other Testaments, Wills by me in anyways before made, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament.

'In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty-eighth day of May, and in the year of our Lord Christ One thousand seven hundred and eighty-two. ZEBULUN SOUTHARD.

the will of his father, Johannes Coerte Van Voor

hees, and also in his family Bible, as being born Aug. 6, 1708, and married Sept. 30, 1731. He has already been named as having been a Freeholder, according to the list made by the Sheriff of Duchess Co., Aug. 28, 1740.

The will of Johannis Van Voorhees, Junior, of Rombout Precinct, Duchess County, N. Y., is recorded in the Surrogate's Office of the City and County of New York:

JOHANNIS VAN Voorhees, Will dated Jan. 27, 1746. Junior, of Rombout Pre- Proved Apr. 5, 1750. cinct, Duchess Co., N. Y. ) Recorded Liber 18, p. 91. In the name of God, Amen! The twenty-seventh day of January, in the twentieth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord, George the second of Great Brittain, Anno Dom. 1746, I, Johannis Van Voorhees, Junior, of Rombout Precinct, in Duchess County, sick and weak in body, but of good and in perfect memory-thanks be to the Almighty God therefor-do make this my last Will and Testament, in manner and form following, that is to say: First, I recommend my soul unto the Almighty God who gave it and my body to the earth, to be burried in such decent and christianlike manner, and in such place as by my Executors hereafter named shall be thought fit and expediant, hoping for a glorious resurrection at the last day. Imprimis: it is my will that all my just debts and funeral charges be first paid, and then I do give, grant, devise, and bequeath unto my loving wife Garritje the two hundred acres of land joining to my brother Corte's land, with all the improvements thereon, house and barn and orchard, as long as she remains in this life, and also the moveables of my estate as long as she remains my widow; but when she comes to marry again, the moveables or personal estate all to be given to my daughters at the time when they come of age or come to marry; and I give to my son Johannes one hundred and fifty and five acres of my woodland, and I give to my son Elias one hundred and forty and five acres of my woodland, to his heirs and assigns; and my son Johannes and my son Elias

to divide the said land according to quantity and quality, and my daughter Barbaratie, and my daughter Catrena, and my daughter Sare, and my daughter Jannetie, all to have an equal share of my moveable estate; and if any one of my children should come to die without having any heirs, then that share to become an equal share among the rest; and any other children that I shall procure from my said wife shall have their share as much in valley as any of the rest of my children which I have mentioned, in the two hundred acres of land, with the improvements, after my wife's decease, and all my children which I have mentioned shall have an equal share in the two hundred acres which I give to my wife, after her decease; and if any comes to die without having any heirs, then that to become an equal share among the rest. Hereby I make and ordain my loving wife Garritje, and my brother Coort Van Voorhees, and my brother-in-law, Thunis Van Benscoten, my Executors of this my last Will and Testament.
