The following returns were received too late for insertion in their proper places or in the tables.

MUNICIPAL.

Clinton, Tn.,-Good opening for agricultural implement factory or iron working of any description; the town has a plant and will negotiate on favourable terms. About $10,000 was expended on new buildings. Amount expended on permanent improvements about $4,300, of which $1,800 was for a stone crushing outfit. Amount expended on sanitation about $850, of which $250 was for drainage and $600 for maintaining dry earth closet system. J. L. Macpherson, Town Clerk, Clinton.

ORGANIZED LABOUR.

Name, Ottawa Printing Pressmen's Union, No. 5. Organized Jan. 20, 1879; total membership 45; average earnings per week, $17.50; average earnings per hour, 36cts.; number of working hours first 5 days, 42; number on Saturday, 5; wages paid, some weekly, some fortnightly; no idle days; difference in wages between members and non-members, $7 or $8 a week; no cash benefits no special work for members such as reading room, &c.; not incorporated or registered. President, W. R. Walmsley, Printing Bureau, Ottawa; Corresponding Secretary, Alfred J. Larden, 327 Bell St., Ottawa; meets second Monday in month.

MANUFACTURES.

Sawmill, Capital $475,000; number of days in operation, 275; gross value, of product, $576,000; production increased 15 per cent; taxes paid, $727; insurance paid, $10,120; amount invested in permanent repairs and plant enlargement; $15,000; other uncontrollable expenses $23,000; total number of employees 578; total wages paid, $152,290; total number of salaried clerks and officials, 8 total salaries paid, $10,420; wages unchanged; average yearly earnings, $277.66 average daily rate of pay, $1.01; per cent wages of product, 28; per cent cost of material, interest, insurance, taxes, &c., and profit, 72.

PUBLIC UTILITIES.

The town of Meaford reported too late for insertion in this table, that its water works cost $20,000. The town of Goderich reported that it owns and operates water works and electric light plant but did not give their value. The town of Trenton has water works but did not make any report. These have to be added to the $29,414,138, the total given in the table on page 79.
