Stratford : Trades and Labour Council 1900 Fred. J. Todd..... Box 329, Stratford.. 2nd and 4th Frids. Toronto: There has been a greatly augmented response to the schedules sent out to the manufacturers of the Province, the returns numbering 592 as compared with 427 last year, and 205 the year before. As is customary the individual estabments are indicated only by office numbers so as not to disclose their identity, as many would object to such publicity being given to their affairs. There are a sufficient number classified, as they are under 32 heads, to give a fair representation of the various branches of manufacturing industries of Ontario. Of the 592 returns received, 56 do not give full particulars, leaving 536 to he tabulated, against 384 last year and 153 previously. These tables show that 42,636 persons were employed with aggregate wages amounting to $19,123,227, the gross value of their product being $100,094,507. These figures give fuller returns than previously, those for last year being 35,316 persons, with $15,869,337 wages and $83,198,546 product, and for the previous year being 8,505 persons, $3,458,914 wages and $18,473,139 product. The aggregate number of days in operation were 154,905, being an average of 289 days worked by each person as compared with 229 days the previous year. The average annual wage of $459.15 and the daily wage of $1.60 show a satisfactory increase over the $449.43 and $1.52 respectively, of the preceding year. |
