THE Draft of a freedom to be preferred to his Excellency the honourable [297] Thomas Gage, Major Generall and Commander in Chief of all his Majesty's forces in North America &c. was Likewise Read and agreed to by this Board, and is in the words following Viz!

JOHN CRUGER Esq' Mayor and the Aldermen and Commonalty of the City of New York To ALL TO WHOM these Presents shall Come Send GREETING KNOW YEE that wee the Mayor Aldermen and Commonalty of the City of New York aforesaid assembled in Common Council, being willing to demonstrate the Great Value and Esteem we have for the person of his Excellency the honourable Thomas Gage Major General and Commander in Chief of all his Majesty's forces in North America &c: and being truly sensible of the great honour it will be to this Corporation to have so Worthy a Person a Member Thereof ORDERED That he be Presented with the freedom of this Corporation, with the seal thereto, Enclosed in a Gold Box with the City Arms Engraved on the Lid thereof; THESE ARE THEREFORE to Certify and Declare that his said Excellency The Honourable Thomas Gage is hereby Admitted Received and Allowed a freeman and Citizen of the said City; TO HAVE HOLD Enjoy and Partake of all the Benefitts Liberties Privilidges franchises freedoms and Immunities Whatsoever Granted or Belonging to the same City IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF the said Mayor Aldermen and Commonalty have Caused the seal of the said City to Be hereunto Affixed the Fourteenth Day of November in the Sixth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third By the Grace of God of Great Britain France & Ireland King Defender of the faith and so forth and in the Year of our Lord one Thousand Seven hundred and Sixty five

IT IS ORDER'D by this board that the same be handsomly engrossed on Parchment and the Seal of this Corporation affixed thereto to be enclosed in a Gold Box, with the City Arms engraved thereon.

IT IS ORDERED By this Board that the Committee Appointed on the Nineteenth day of February Last upon the Petition of Leonard Lispenard and sundry others owners and proprietors of Lotts of Ground in Montgomerie Ward and the Out ward of this City fronting the East River have Power to Treat with the said Petitioners and make Report thereof To this Board with all Convenient Speed.

ORDERD the Mayor issue his warrant to the Treasurer No 1792 of this City to pay to Johannis Myer Messenger and Doorkeeper to this Board or order the sum of £6 in full for Extraordinary Services by him done the Last year for this Corporation

ORDERD the Mayor issue his warrant to the Treasurer No 1793 of this City to pay to Adam Van Den Bergh or order the sum of £19:01 in full for the Balance of his Account Out of the monies Raised by Vertue of an act Entituled an act for the better Regulating the publick Roads in the City and County of New York to levy money to Defray the Expence thereof and paid into his hands by the Church wardens of this City

THE ENGROSSED ADDRESS to his Excellency Sir Henry Moore Baronet, Captain General and Governor in Chief in and over the Province of New York and the Territories Depending thereon in America, Vice Admiral and Chancellor of the Same, was Read and agreed to, and ORDER'D that the same be Signed by the Clerk of this Board, and then the whole board waited on his said Excellency with the said address, as also with the freedom of this Corporation, and the Seal thereto Annexed in a Gold Box, which they presented to him, and thereupon his said Excellency made the following answer Viz! GENTLEMEN.

I return you my hearty thanks for this Address, and for your Expressions of Regard for myself and Family. It will be no small Satisfaction to me, if my arrival here can in any Shape contribute to the Public Peace & Tranquillity. Nothing on my part shall be wanting to establish them on a lasting foundation, and from your assurances of Duty & Loyalty to His Majesty, as well as readiness to maintain good Order in this City, I can have no doubt of obtaining so desirable an End. [300] ORDERED the mayor issue his warrant to the TreasNo 1794 urer of this City to pay to Walter Brock or order the sum of Five Pounds Two Shillings in full of his Account with this Corporation as . said acc! Audited by this board and allowed of.

ORDERED by this Board that Alderman Bogert and Mess's Thody and Gautier be a Committee to prepare the draft or plan of a Bridewell as also an estimate of the expence thereof and referr the same to this Board with all Convenient Speed for their approbation.

ORDERED the Mayor issue his warrant to the Treasurer No 1795 of this City to pay to Henry Cruger Esq' or order the sum of Sixty Pounds for Two Years Interest of Five hundred

Pounds due and Ending the Fifth Instant.

ORDER'D The Mayor Issue his Warrant To the TreasNo 1796 urer of this City to pay to Mrs Margaret Ten Brook or order the sum of Twenty Pounds for Two years Interest of Two hundred Pounds due the twenty third day of December next

Upon Application of the said Margaret Ten Brook for an Enlargment of the Interest due on the above Sum, It is ORDER'D that She be allowed Six p Cent. on said sum, to Commence from the twenty third day of December next.

[301] ORDERD the assize of bread be till further order flour at 16/ pr C A White Loaf of the Finest flower to Weigh.....1 130z: for 4 Coppers ....Do......of....Do..........to Weigh..... 14oz for 2 Do

AND FURTHER ORDERED that no other Bread be made for sale within this City than According to the Above Assize (hard Bisquits Vol. VI.-29

only Excepted) and that all Bakers within the same, take Notice Thereof and make their Bread Accordingly.

Mr Mayor produced to this Board the Copy of a Petition to the General Assembly of this province the 5th day of December Inst. praying Liberty to bring in a Bill to prolong the Roofing of Dwelling Houses in this City with Slate or Tyle which being Read & taken into Consideration by this Board ORDER'D that Mr Mayor Acquaint the said General Assembly that this Board have no objection to the prayer of the said petitions being granted

[302] ORDER'D that the Mayor Issue his Warrant to the No 1797 Treasurer of this City, to pay to Johannis Myer, Messenger and Door Keeper to this Board, or order, the Sum of £3 : 15:0 in full for a Quarters Sallary, due unto him and ending the first Instant.

ORDER'D the Like to Isaac Stoutenburgh, or order, the No 1798 Sum of £4:9:9 in full of an acct for sundry Sums by him expended in Repairing the floors of the publick Markets in this City, and for half a years Sallary in Storing the City's Library &c, as pr sd account Sworn to, and allowed of by this Board.
