MR MAYOR this day Exhibited to this Board an account Between him, the [186] Estate of his father John Cruger Esq Deceased formerly Mayor of this City, and this Corporation by which it appears that there's due to the Corporation from him and the Estate of his said father the sum of one Hundred and seven pounds Seventeen Shillings and Six pence Current money of this province WHEREUPON Its ORDER'D by this Board that he pay the said Sum to the Chamberlain or Treasurer of this Corporation whose Receipt Shall be to him a Good discharge for the Same

ORDER'D that the Clerk of this Board prepare one other advertizement to be put in the publick Gazzettees, for letting to farm by publick Out Cry to the highest Bidder the ferry between this City and Nassau Island to Two Persons the one Residing in this City and the other on Nassau side for the Term of three years to Commence on the first day of May next; Likewise the publick Wharfs and Slips of this City for same term, and the Stalls and Standings in the Severall Marketts of this City for the Term of one year, both to Commence on the said first day of May next at a yearly rent to be paid Quarterly on Tuesday the first day of March next, at two oClock in the afternoon of the same day at the Common Councill Chamber in the City Hall of the said City of New York, and that this Board or the Major part of them be a Committee for Letting the Same, upon such Conditions as they shall Judge proper

ORDER'D by this Board that a Law of this Corporation Entituled a Law for preventing frauds in firewood be repealed, and the same is hereby accordingly repealed and instead thereof the following Law be published to witt, a Law Entituled a Law to prevent frauds and uncertainties in the Sale of firewood Commonly Called Cordwood within this City and the same is hereby accordingly Published and to Continue and remain in full force and Virtue for one year from and after the date hereof. being in the words following, WHEREAS frequent Abuses have been Committed, and are likely to Continue, in the sale of Preamble. firewood for want of a more Certain method of Admeasurement of such wood than is at present practised; and the Mayor Aldermen and Commonalty of the City of New York, in Common Councill Convened being willing and desirous to prevent the Like for the future,

fire wood to be four feet Long

I. DO ORDAIN and it is hereby ordained by the authority aforesaid, that all firewood, Commonly Called Cordwood, which shall be Brought into this City, or the Liberties thereof, for sale shall be in length four feet, including half the Scarf; on the forfeiture of the Sum of Forty Shillings, Current money of this Colony, to be paid by the person or persons, who offer the Same for sale.

No Cordwood to be
Landed, 'till Sold

II. AND be it further ordained by the Authority Aforesaid, that No Cordwood [188] shall be Landed on any of the Docks or Wharfs within this City until the Same be Sold, in order to be immediately Carried away; and that as Soon as any Boat or other Vessel be unloaded, the same shall be hauled away Immediately (if afloat) in order that other Boats may Come to the Wharf or dock to unload their wood, under the penalty of Twenty Shillings for each Offence to be paid by the offender or offenders.

No firewood to be Sold otherwise than by the Cord Measure

III. AND be it further ordained by the authority aforesaid that from and after the first day of March, next following the publication hereof, no firewood, Commonly Called Cordwood, shall be Sold within this City, otherwise than by the Cord measure that is to Say, one Cord to measure Eight feet wide, and four feet high and so in proportion for a Greater or less Quantity; and all such Wood shall be actually Landed on Shore by the Seller, before the delivery thereof. AND that disputes may be prevented between the Buyers and Sellers of Such wood Respecting the due Cording thereof

Inspectors appointed by the Mayor to be Judges of the cording

IV. IT is hereby also ordained by the same Authority, that such Inspectors as the mayor of the said City, for the time Being, shall appoint for that purpose, (who shall be duly Sworn to do Impartial Justice Between the parties) shall severally be the Judges of such Cording, and their Judgment be final between the parties respecting the due Cording of the Same. the said Inspectors shall haue for their Trouble for each Cord by them Inspected, four Coppers, to be paid one half by the Buyer, and the other half by the Seller of said wood; and if any person or persons shall presume to Sell or Buy any firewood otherwise than by the Cord, to be measured, as aforesaid, Such person or persons shall Respectively forfeit the Sum of Forty Shillings Like money as aforesaid for every offence: Unless the Buyer & Seller of Such firewood do agree on any other Method of admeasurement than is hereby Before directed

Penalties and forfeitures how to be Disposed of.

V AND be it further ordained by the Authority Aforesaid, that one Half of all the penalties and forfeitures, Sum and Sums of Money which Shall at any time hereafter be incurred and forfeited by Virtue of this Act shall be paid to such person or persons as shall Sue for and prosecute the Same to Effect; and the other half thereof to the Church wardens of the said City, for the use of the poor thereof, and shall and may be Recovered before the Mayor, Recorder, and Aldermen of the said City, or any of them, with Costs of Suit

THE PETITION of William Walton Esq Jacobus Roosevelt and Sundry others was preferred to this Board, praying that this Board. would be pleased to Give them Liberty to Construct and Erect a publick Market House in or near Pecks Slip in Montgomerie Ward of this City at their [189] Own Cost and Expence of such demensions as this Board shall think proper &c WHEREUPON its ORDER'D by this Board that the Consideration thereof be deferred to Some future Common Councill

Mr Daniel Dunscomb of this City Cooper produced to this Board a release from John Kingston of the said City Blacksmith and Rachel. his wife, and James Reade of the same City Taylor and Jane his wife to the Mayor aldermen and Commonalty of the said City of all their Right and Interest of and in Severall Streets Laid out and mentioned in a map or plan of a Certain piece or parcell of Ground formerly

patented to John Minthorne Lying a little to the Northward of the fresh water in the Outward of the said City which said map or Draft was made by Lawrence Letelier one of the Citys Surveyors and is now filed with the said Release both annexed which are ORDER'D by this Board to be Recorded by the Clerk hereof in the Book of City Grants

ORDER'D that the Mayor Issue his warrant to the TreasNo 1628 urer of this City to pay to Mr Isaac Van Hook or order the Sum of Seventy Nine pounds Nineteen Shillings and Eight pence in full for the expence of Erecting a Hay Machine by order of this Board, which proved Abortive
