AT a Common Councill held at the City Hall of the Said City on Saturday the 14th day of October Anno Dom 1758%

This Day m Mayor being attended by Mr Recorder the aldermen and assistants high Sheriff. and Town Clerk Corroner high Constable Petty Constables and other officers of this Corporation between the hours of Ten and Eleven of the Clock at the City Hall Went in their formalities from thence to the house in Fort George in the Said City and there Waited on the Honourable Archibald Kennedy Esq and the other members of his Majesties Council for this province of New York and there the oaths appointed by act of Parliament to be Taken Instead of the oaths of allegiance and Supremacy the Test and abjuration oath in the Presence and by order of the said Archibald Kennedy Esq &c: were administred unto John Cruger Esq' as Mayor Water Bailiff, and Clerk of the Markets of this City of New York as also one of his Majesties Justices of the Peace for the City and County of New York and also the usuall oaths of Office of Mayor Water Bailiff and Clerk of the Markets of the City of New York and Justice of the Peace in the presence of Severall Members of this Court Whereupon the Mayor attended as aforesaid Returned to the City Hall, where after the Ringing of three Bells and Proclamation made for Silence the Commissions for Mayor Water Bailiff and Clerk of the Markets and the Commissions of high Sheriff and Corroner were published, and then this Court Returned to the Common Councill Chamber, where the said John Cruger Esq was placed in the [35] Chair and then and there the Said John Cruger Esq' as Mayor of this Corporation

administred the oaths aforesaid appointed to be taken by act of Parliament instead of the Oaths of allegiance and Supremacy the Test and abjuration oath and the usuall Oaths for Due Execution of their Respective offices unto the Respective Magistrates and officers following Viz!

ORDER'D that the Committee which was appointed on the Fourteenth of October Last for Auditing the Chamberlains Accounts and all other Publick accounts of this Corporation be a Committee for auditing the Same for the Ensueing year.

[36] Mr Recorder Produced to this Board the Draft of a Law Entituled A Law To Prevent Swine from Running at Large in any of the Six wards of the City of New York Lying To the South ward or west ward of the fresh water and is in the words following Viz! Whereas Severall of the Inhabitants within this City have been and still are very negligent and Remiss about their Swine in Suffering them To go at Large without any Manner of Controul or Restraint So that they often get into their Neighbours Houses yards Gardens and other inclosures, and their Do considerable Hurt & Damage to Prevent which for the future, BE IT ENACTED & ORDAINED by the Mayor Aldermen and Commonalty of the City of New york Convened in Common Councill and it is hereby Enacted and ordained by the Authority of the Same that if any Swine from and after the first Day of November next Shall Run at Large in any of the Streets Lanes allys or other Place or Places on the South or west side of the fresh water the owner or owners of Such Swine So Runing at large Shall forfeit and Pay for Every Such Swine. the Sum of Ten Shillings Current Money of New York with Costs of Prosecution, To be Recovered before the mayor Recorder or any one of the aldermen of this City by any Person or Persons who Shall Sue for and Prosecute the Same to Effect, one half of which Penalty or forfeiture To be Paid To the Church wardens of this City for the use of the Poor thereof And the other Moyety To the Prosecutor. which was Read and approved of by this Board and ORDER'D that the Same be forthwith Published and the Same was accordingly Published/

Warrt Issued

ORDER'D that Mr Mayor Issue his warrent To the Treasurer of this City to pay to John Sayre or his order the Sum of three Pounds in full for one Quarters Sallary Due unto him as Publick whipper of this City and ending the first Day of August Last Past/.

ORDERD that Alderman Cuyler be appointed to all Such Committees as the late Alderman Coventry belonged to and in his Room. and Stead

RESOLVED by this Board That this Corporation provide fire wood Candles and Straw for the New Barracks the Ensueing winter for the Quartering of Such of his Majesties Troops as Shall be order'd to this City and that Mr John Depeyster be and he is hereby appointed to purchase the Same and that he apply to Some of the magistrates of this City for a Certificate to the Treasurer of this Corporation for Such Sum as he Shall have occasion for from Time to Time and that such Certificate to the Said Treasurer or Chamberlain Shall be a good and Sufficient warrant for So Much

ORDER'D that Mr Isaac Stoutenburgh provide fire wood for the

Watch House at the City Hall the Ensueing winter and Charge the Expence thereof to this Corporation/.

RESOLVED and ORDER'D by this Board that Such of the Officers belonging To his Majesty which May be Quarter'd in this City the Ensueing winter be Billited at the Expence of this Corporation in the Like and Same Manner as they were Billited the Last Winter

ORDERD that Mr Mayor Issue his warrant to the Treasurer of this City To pay to Mr Isaac Stoutenburgh or his order the Sum of Twenty Nine pounds Warr Issued three Shillings and Eight pence for the Ballance of his account [38] with this Corporation for the Charges Attending the watch house from the first Day of October one thousand Seven hundred and Fifty Seven to the first Day of October one thousand Seven hundred and Fifty Eight. as also the Further Sum of Twenty Two pounds Eight Shillings for the Constables Days and Nights watches from the fourteenth of Aprill Last to the Fourteenth of this Inst. Month of October one thousand Seven hundred and Fifty Eight Including what he paid to Mathew Wool for lighting the Citys Lamps for a half year, and Likewise one other Sum of three pounds one Shilling and Eight pence in full for Sundry Services by
