THE COMMITTEE appointed the nineteenth day of this Instant month of October to Consult with some of the most principall House Carpenters of this City, what method Could be Taken for the Immediate providing materials for Carrying on and Compleating Barracks to Contain Eight hundred men, and whether a sufficient number of Carpenters Could be had so as to effect the same in a short time, Reported that they accordingly have Consulted with several of the most principall Carpenters of this City who were of opinion that a sufficient. Quantity of materials might be had in a fortnight, upon which this Board Came to the following Resolution, and agreed, that the said Building be forthwith Carried on under the direction and Inspection of the above mentioned Committee who are hereby Empowered to Treat with such persons, and provide such materials for the Carrying

on and Compleating said work as they shall judge proper, and further ORDERD that the said building, Contain Twenty Rooms on a floor two stories high, to be Twenty one feet square, four hundred and Twenty feet Long and Twenty one feet wide to be built on some of the Commons Lands of this Corporation, to the southward of freshwater Between the New Goal House and the house of Catemuts and that Alderman Bogart be added to the aforesaid Committee:

ORDER'D that Mr Mayor Issue his warrant to the Treasurer of this City to pay to Mr Isaac Stoutenburgh or his order the sum of Twenty five pounds for the ballance of his account with this Corporation for the Charges of the Watch House from the first of October one Thousand seven hundred and fifty six to the first of October one thousand seven hundred and fifty seven, as also the [2] further sum of Twenty two pounds Twelve shillings, for the Constables days and nights watches from the fourteenth day of aprill one Thousand seven hundred and fifty seven, to the fourteenth day of October following, Including what he paid to Mathew Wool for Lighting the City Lamps for a half year. and Likewise four pounds Eight shillings and six pence in full of his other account with this Corporation for sundry services by him done for this Corporation, which said severall sums in the whole and together amount to fifty two pounds and six pence:

WHEREAS this Board Conceives it absolutely necessary that a number of Barracks be forthwith built in or near this City so as to contain Eight hundred men, and inasmuch, as there is not at present any monies in their Treasury to Effect the same Do therefore Resolve and agree that Mr Mayor and Alderman Lespinard be a Committee to wait on the Governour and Councill, and Request of them to draw a warrant on the Treasurer of the Colony, in favour of this Corporation for a sufficient sum to build and Compleat said Barracks out of the monies in his hands Raised for fortifications, and that the said Committee have power to Engage, that the said monies so to be drawn for shall be Replaced by this Corporation in Case the Generall assembly shall not allow and approve of such Draught:

Alderman Bogart Delivered into this Board a Table of the assize of Loaf Bread in pounds and Ounces Calculated for the Various prices

of the best of Common flower from Ten shillings to Twenty two shillings and nine pence p' Cent allowing Every one hundred and Twelve pounds of flower when Baked to deliver one hundred and forty six pounds of Loaf Bread, allowing for Bakeing, wood & six shillings and Three pence p Cent of flower, which was Examined into and approved of by this Board, and ORDERD that the Regulation of the assize for the future be made agreeable to said Table

ORDER'D that Alderman Livingston and Alderman Lespinard be a Committee to Receive of Mess's Christopher Bancker and John Dies the sum of two Thousand pounds being what they Received of the Treasurer of the Colony out of the fortification money, by Virtue of a warrant to them from the Governour and Councill the said sum to be applied towards Building of Barracks in or near this City, pursuant to a Resolution of this Board made the 21st of this Instant October:

BE IT ORDAIN'D by the Mayor Aldermen and assistants of the City of New York Conven'd in Common Councill and its hereby ordained by the authority of the same that all the Laws orders and ordinances of this Corporation which on the Eighth day of November one Thousand seven hundred and fifty six, were made ordained, Renewed Established and published be Renewed and Continued [4] and Remain in full force and Virtue, for one year, from and after the date hereof: A LAW for the observation of the Lords day Called Sunday: A Law to prevent strangers from being a Charge to this Corporation (Except that part formerly Repealed)

A LAW to appoint sworn surveyors of this City/

A LAW for the Better preventing of fire/

A LAW for marking of Bread.

A LAW for the Regulating of Carts and Cartmen

A LAW prohibiting the sale of meal and flower by measure and for appointing places for the sale of meal flower Corn and Grain/.

A LAW for the Regulating of Negroes mulattoes and other slaves! A LAW for the Regulating of the office of packers and Cullers/ A LAW for the Regulating the lying of Vessels in the docks and slips of this City and for the preserving the Bridge and Common Sewer in the said docks
