CHAPTER 62.

An Act to Amend Chapter 20, Acts of 1912, Entitled "An Act to Consolidate the Acts for the Encouragement of Agriculture in so far as the same Relates to County and District Exhibitions."

Be it enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows:

COUNTY AND DISTRICT EXHIBITIONS.

2. The Governor-in-Council may, from time to how appointed. time, appoint a person or persons to assist the Superintendent of County and District Exhibitions in inspecting the property, books and accounts of any county or district exhibition receiving Government aid under this Act, and the officers of every such district or county exhibition, whenever required to do so, shall submit its books and accounts to such inspection, and truly, to the best of their knowledge, answer all questions put to them in relation thereto, or to the funds of the society, association, company or board conducting the Exhibition.

3. The agricultural society, where but one exists may be held. in a county, or the county farmers' association, or any one agricultural society receiving the endorsement of a majority of the societies in a county where more than one is established, or any company or board receiving the endorsement of the county farmers' association and of the majority of the societies in the county, may hold for the county an annual exhibition of agricultural and horticultural produce, farm stock, and articles of domestic manufacture at which prizes shall be granted for the best specimens produced.

4. For purposes of this Act, the Governor-inCouncil may declare a certain district of a county or districts, including counties or parts of counties which, by contiguity or common interest, are better adapted for a united exhibition than either county by itself, an exhibition district, in which case the agricultural society or farmers' association or company or board of management must receive the endorsement of the majority of the societies in the district so declared to be an exhibition district.

5. There shall be paid out of the Provincial Treasury to each society, association, company or board conducting an exhibition under the provisions

of this Act, upon application to and recommendation of the Supreintendent of County and District Exhibitions, provided he deems the extent and scope of such exhibition to be sufficient to warrant the same, a minimum grant of three hundred dollars, to be paid at the time such exhibition is held, and a further amount, over and above the said grant, equal to fifty per centum of the prize money in excess of three hundred dollars actually paid out, as shewn by the sworn statement of the treasurer, to be paid whenever such statement has been approved by the Superintendent of County and District Exhibitions; provided, however, that, except as otherwise provided by this Act, the total grant paid under this section shall not exceed five hundred dollars.

(2) In cases where, for a sufficient reason, a society, association, company or board otherwise qualified to receive aid under this Act may have failed to make application before the date specified in this section, the Superintendent of County and District Exhibitions may recommend that such society, association, company or board shall receive the regular grant, and the Governor-in-Council may, upon this recommendation, make a grant as provided for in this Act.

9. (1) Under the direction of the Superintendent of County and District Exhibitions, a sum not exceeding $500.00 may be spent for the purpose of sending competent judges to these exhibitions.

(2) In order that a society, association, company or board may have the services of such judges, said society, association, company or board shall select dates for their exhibition that are satisfactory to the Superintendent of County and District Exhibitions, and for this purpose must submit their proposed dates at the time of application for approval before June first in the year in which the exhibition is to be held.
