AN ACT to further amend "The Parlia- A.D. 1898. mentary Privilege Act." [15 October, 1898.]

WHEREAS it is necessary for the dignity and independence of PREAMBLE.

Parliament that certain matters touching its privileges should be clearly defined:

Be it therefore enacted by His Excellency the Governor of Tasmania, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and House of Assembly, in Parliament assembled, as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as "The Parliamentary Privilege Act, Short title.

2 In this Act

"The President" means the President of the Legislative
Council:

"The Speaker" means the Speaker of the House of Assembly.

Interpretation.

3 The Clerks, Clerks Assistant, the Usher of the Black Rod, Appointment of the Sergeant-at-Arms, or other permanent officers, and the Head Clerks, &c. Messengers of the Legislative Council and House of Assembly, shall

be appointed by the Governor in Council on the written nomination. of the President and Speaker respectively.

Parliamentary Privilege.

4 It shall be lawful for the President or Speaker, as the case may be, to appoint any Sessional or Temporary Messengers required for the Legislative Council or House of Assembly, and at such rates of remuneration, and for such periods as the President or Speaker may think fit; but nothing in this Section contained shall empower the President or Speaker, as the case may be, to make any appointment unless Parliament has voted the money necessary for such appointment.

5-(1.) Any expenditure out of moneys provided in the Estimates under the head of "Contingencies" in connection with either House of Parliament may be incurred upon the written authority, either special or general, of the President of the Legislative Council or Speaker of the House of Assembly, as the case may be.

(2.) The authority of the President or Speaker, as the case may be, shall be deemed to be "the Minister's authority" required by Regulation Eighteen of the General Regulations contained in the Schedule (2.) of "The Audit Act, 1888."

(3.) The production of the authority of the President or Speaker, as the case may be, or a reference thereto, shall be sufficient to enable the Treasurer of the Colony to liquidate any account for the payment of any moneys provided as aforesaid.

6 This Act, and The Parliamentary Privilege Act, and "The Parliamentary Privilege Act Amendment Act, 1885," shall be read and construed together as one Act.

to make further provision for A.D. 1898. regulating the Size of Cases used in the sale of Fruit. [15 October, 1898.]

BE it enacted by His Excellency the Governor of Tasmania, by and

with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and House of Assembly, in Parliament assembled, as follows:-

1 This Act may be cited as "The Standard Fruit Case Act, 1898." Short title.

2 In addition to the Standard Fruit Case defined by "The Standard Standard Bushel Fruit Case Act, 1890," a Bushel Case for use in the sale and delivery Case. of Fruit may be a Case measuring Ten inches by Fifteen inches by 54 Vict. No. 29. Twenty inches on the outside, and containing not less than Two thou

sand four hundred and thirty-eight cubic inches of interior space; and Standard Halfa Half-bushel Case may be a Case measuring Ten inches by Seven and bushel Case. seven-eighth inches by Twenty inches on the outside, and containing

not less than One thousand two hundred and nineteen cubic inches of

interior space.

AN ACT to amend "An Act to enable the A.D. 1898. Town Board of New Town to borrow the Sum of One thousand six hundred and fifty Pounds to defray the cost of Public Buildings, and for other purposes." [15 October, 1898.]

BE

it enacted by His Excellency the Governor of Tasmania, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and House of Assembly, in Parliament assembled, as follows:

1 In this Act, the expression "the said Act" shall mean the Act Interpretation. of Parliament 60 Victoria, No. 39.

2 Notwithstanding anything contained in the said Act, it shall be lawful for the Board, with the sanction of the Minister, and upon such terms and conditions as he shall approve, at any time to sell or dispose of any of the properties described in the Schedule (1.) of the said Act, and that either in one or more lots, and to convey or transfer the same to the purchaser or purchasers thereof: Provided, that all purchasemoney received for the same shall be applied by the Board for such purposes as the Minister may sanction.
