GEORGE the Second, by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, &c. To all to whom thefe Prefents fhall come, Greeting. Whereas our trufty and Wellbeloved Jofeph Davidson, of our City of London, Bookfeller, hath humbly reprefented unto Us, that he hath been at a very great Expence to get The Works of Horace and Virgil tranflated into English Profe, with Critiel, Hißorical, Geographical, and Claffical Notes in English, from the best Commentators, both antient and modern, Together with the Latin Text put into Order of Conftruction: Which Works he is now publishing in Latin and Engl Profe, with the aforefaid Notes, in Octave, and purposes to publish all the other Latin Authors in the fame Manner: And bath therefore wumbly be fought Us to grant him our Royal Privilege and Licence for the fole Printing, Publishing, and Vending the aforefaid Works of Horace and Virgil, and all the other Latin Authors in the fame Manner, for the Term of Fourteen Years; We being willing to give all due Encouragement to Works of this Nature, which tend to the Advancement of Learning, are graciously pleafed to condifend to his Request; and do therefore, by thefe Prefents, fo far as may be agreeable to the Statute in that Behalf made and provided, grant unto the faid Jofeph Davidson, his Executors, Adminiftrators, and Affigns, Our Royal Licence for the fole Printing, Publishing, and Vending the faid Works, for the Term of Fourteen Years, to be computed from the Date hereof; ftrictly forbidding all our Subjects, within Our Kingdoms and Dominions, to repr nt the fame, either in the like, or any other Volume or Volumes whatfoever; or to Import, Buy, Vend, Utter, or Diftribute any Copies thereof, Reprinted beyond the Seas, during the aforefaid Term of Fourteen Years, without the Confent or Approbation of the faid Jofeph Davidson, his Heirs, Executors, and Affigns, under their Hands and Seals first had and obtained, as they will anfver the contrary at their Peril : Whereof the Commiflioners and other Officers of our Cuftoms, the Master, Wardens, and Company of Stationers are to take Notice, that due Obedience may be rendered to our Pleafure therein declared."

Given at our Court at St. James's, the Twenty fourth Day of February, 1741-2, in the Fifteenth Year of our Reign.
