At a Common Council held for the City of Albany at the City Hall of the said City on the 3 May, 1755-Present, the Mayor, Johs Ten Eyck, Jacob Ten Eyck, Johs Van Sante, Gerrit Marselis, John Beekman Jun', John R. Bleeker, Jacob Van Schaick, Ha: Gansevoort.

Resolved by this Board, That the old Seal now in custody of the Mayor, with the Letters thereon shall be used by the Mayor to lycense Carmen and Tavern keepers and to nothing else, and shall be called the Publick Seal of this City.

This Board agrees with Cornelia Butcher for a peise of Ground lying on the East of the Road that leads from the City of Albany to the Pasture on ye North side of the Gate that stands opposite the house of Dirck Hun, broad on the front 20 foot long, towards the Stockadoes 15 foot. She is to build a house on that peise of Ground, which she is to have two years for building the house; and at the expiration of two years she is to pay twenty shillings annually, and that no longer than the Corporation shall judge proper; the said Cornelia Butcher shall not rent or sell the house without the consent of this Corporation on penalty of forfeiting ye said House.

The following Ordinances were this day published:

An Ordinance for regulating Carmen.

Do. for selling flesh in the Markets.

Do. for cleaning and repairing the streets on or before the 18 day of this Instant.

This Board orders that ye City Treasurer let Wouter N. Groesbeek have 6 Skipple of Wheat and charge it to his Account.

Cornelis Van Duesen undertook to open and shut the Gates from No. 1 to No. 7 for the space of two months from the day of June, begun to

open and shut to the day of September, for £3.

Resolved that ye Clerk draw a Petition and send Johannis Seger to the Mayor, &c., to have it signed, to be sent to ye Representatives for ye City and County of Albany, in order to laid before ye House of the General Assembly for ye Province of New York, which Petition runs thus:

To the Honourable the Generall Assembly of the Province of New York in the General Assembly convinent in the City of New York, the Humble Petition of the Mayor, Recorder, Aldermen and Common Councill of the City of Albany,

Most Humbly Sheweth,

That whereas the Inhabitance of this City of Albany, pursuant to an order of the Corporation, did last Summer sett up a considerable quantity of Stockadoes now standing round this City, but at the same time their remained a great quantity of the old Stockadoes which are quiet rotten, which this Corporation would have in some manner amended last Winter,

had they nott been persuaded by a glareing prospect that this City whould have been laid in a Stone wall, which glareing prospect is now all over and laid aside, we therefore desire the Honourable House will be pleased to make an Act of Assembly to compell the Inhabitance of this City of Albany and the Manor of Renselaerwyck to reyde a number of Stockadoes to be sett up in the place of the old, and we also begg the Honourable House will be pleased to allow a sum of money to this Corporation to gett the Block houses and Batteries repaired, which greatly want to be amended, and to purchase gun Powder, Ball and other warlike Stores, and to provide for Fire wood and Candles to enable the Inhabitance to keep a Night Watch; all which this Corporation is in no manner able to doe without assested by the Honourable House, for this Corporation has no Income from their Tenants att Schagtekook, who are all obliged to leave their Farms and are in a manner ruened, and this Corporation is att least a thousand pounds indebted, occasioned by the last French War. And your Petitioners as in duty bound shall ever pray.

The above Petition was inclosed in a Letter to the Representatives for the City and County of Albany, as followeth, viz:

Gentlemen-Inclosed you have a Petition we must trouble you with, to lay the same before your Honourable House, and to endeavour to gett what the Petition setts forth, or any other thing may be good of this City. Signd by order of the Common Councill.

Whereas the Constables elected for the first and second wards of this City of Albany are gone upon the Expeditions, and that there may be no failure of Justice for the want of proper officers put the Law in execution, the Mayor, Aldermen and Commonalty by vertue of the powers and authorities given by their Charter to make by-laws for the good regulation of this City, provided the same be not repugnant to ye Laws of England, do hereby order and direct that the Inhabitants of the first and second wards do meet together on the twenty-first day of the month of August, and then to elect and chuse two able and sufficient persons for Constables in each of ye said wards, and that ye Aldermen of ye said wards give notice to ye Inhabitants ye day before ye Election, and that they make return of ye persons so elected in the Clerk's office as usual.

At a Common Councill held for the City of Albany, at the City Hall of the said City on the 29 day of September, 1755-Present, the Mayor, Jacob Ten Eyck, Gerrit Marselis, Volkert P. Douw, Johs H. Ten Eyck, Abraham Douw, Abraham Yates, Jun', John R. Bleeker, Ha: Gansevoort. This day being appointed by the Charter for choosing and electing Corporation officers, the following persons were chosen, to witt:

First Ward. Johannis Van Sante and Volkert P. Douw, Aldermen; Evert Wendell and Jacob Van Schaick, Assistants; Abraham Cooper and Jacob De Garmo, Constables.

Second Ward.-Jacob Ten Eyck and Gerrit Marselis, Aldermen; John R. Bleeker and John Beekman, Jun', Assistants; Henry Tielin and John Mase Bloemendal, Jun', Constables.

Third Ward.-Abraham Douw and Johs Ten Eyck, Aldermen; Harme Gansevoort and Abraham Yates, Jun', Assistants; Gerrit Wilhelmus Van Den Bergh and William Gert Van Den Bergh, Constables.

This Board appoints John Roseboom for City Chamberlain; Johannis Seeger, Marshall; Jacob De Garmo, High Constable.

Hans Hansen, Esq', produced a Commission appointing him Mayor and Clerk of the Market of this City and Coroner of the said City and County for the ensueing year, took the Oaths appointed by Law, signed the Test, and was sworn to the due execution of y said offices.

Abraham Yates, Jun', Esq', produced a Commission appointing him High Sheriff of the City and County of Albany, took the Oaths appointed by Law, signed the Test, and was sworn to the due execution of said office.

Volkert P. Douw, Johannis Van Sante, Jacob Ten Eyck, Gerrit Marselis, Abraham Douw and Johs H. Ten Eyck, Esqrs, being chosen Aldermen for the year ensueing, took said Oaths appointed by Law, signed the Test, and sworn to the due execution of their offices.

Evert Wendell, Abraham Yates, Jun, John R. Blecker and Harme Gansevoort, Assistants, took the said Oaths, signed the Test, were sworn to the due execution of their office.

Jacob De Garmo took the said Oaths, signed the Test, was sworn to the office of High Constable for the ensueing year.

Henry Fielding, John Bloemendall, Gerrit W. Van Den Bergh, William G. Van Den Bergh, took the said Oaths, signed the Test, and swor to the due execution of the office as Constable.

At a Common Council held for the City of Albany at the City Hall of the said City on the 21 day of October, 1755-Present, the Mayor, Recorder, Abraham Douw, Johs Van Sante, Johs H. Ten Eyck, John R. Bleeker, Abraham Yates, Jun', Evert Wendell, Ha: Gansevoort.

This Board has agreed with Philip De Foreest for a room in his House to keep an Officer's guard, at the rate of twenty shillings a month, and to scrub the same one shilling every week.

And it is Resolved by this Board to procure Wood for the said Officer's guard and for the Watch in the Block house No. 7, upon the credit of the Province of New York.

Resolved by this Board, that the Treasurer sell all the Wheat in his custody at 4s 7d. Skipple; to make the first offer to the Bakers of the City, and if they do not incline to buy, then to sell it to any other person.

Ördered, That the Treasurer let Johs Seger have 9 Skipples Wheat, and charge his Account for ye same.

This Board appoints the following persons Fire Masters for the ensueing year:

Cornelis Van Santvoord, Jacob Coeper, first ward.
Barnardus Harse, Sander Lansing, second ward.
Schibolet Bogardus, Philip Mullen, third ward.

Ordered, That Warrants be given the Fire Masters of each ward accordingly, and that the Clerk sign the same, by order of Common Councill. Resolved by this Board, That Jacob Ten Eyck, Johs H. Ten Eyck and John R. Bleeker, agree with some person for to remove the Watch house from Gansevoort Dock to a Lot of ground lying next to the house of Jesse De Foreest; the said Lott belongs to the above named Jacob Ten Eyck and Johs H. Ten Eyck, and when the same is removed and compleated, to render an exact account of the cost and charges in Common Council, that order may be given upon their Treasurer for the payment thereof.

Resolved by this Board, That the Clerk draw an order upon their Treasurer to lett William Hogan, Jun', Michael Besset and Johannis Seger each have six Skipple Wheat and charge their Accounts for the same. At a Common Councill held for the City of Albany on 13 day of Feb: 1756-Present, the Mayor, Recorder, Johs H. Ten Eyck, Abraham Douw, Gerrit Marselis, Jacob Ten Eyck, Volkert P. Douw, Evert Wendell, Jacob Van Schaick, John R. Bleeker, John Beekman, Jun', Ha: Gansevoort, Abraham Yates, Jun'.

This Board have agreed with Mr. Adam Yates for a piece of Ground lying outside of ye Stockadoes joyning to a piece of Hay Land belonging to the said Adam Yates, for the space of eight years at ten shillings each year (That is to say) if the Corporation don't dispose of ye said Lott or want the same for the use of ye City.

Johannis Gansevoort delivered his Account to this Board amounting to £8:6, which being allowed and ordered to be paid out of the Wheat bought of the Treasurer last year.

Resolved by this Board, That the Treasurer sell all the Cities Wheat that is now unsold to Johannis Gansevoort @ 4s. 7d. Skipple.

Bernardus Bratt, Jun', made out his Account which he had against the City to this Board, amounting to £4:7, which being deducted out of £12:10 for five years Rent for the Ferry, remains £8:3, which this Board ordered to pay to their Treasurer, and that his Receipt shall be a sufficient discharge.

Resolved by this Board, That Phillip John Schuyler shall have the Ferry on the west side thereof for the ensueing year, that is from the fourth day of April, 1756, untill the 4 day of April, 1757, upon a condition in case that if the expedition continues then he is to pay five pounds, otherwise but three pounds.

Harme Gansevoort agreed for Johannis Ten Broek for East side upon the same conditions as is above agreed with Phillip John Schuyler.

An Ordinance published this day to regulate the Ferry between the Lemits of the City of Albany and Green Boesh and to establish the ferriage thereof.
