August 31. Resolved by this Board that the Treasurer pay to John Ostrander in behalf of the Constables for Sunday service out of the Watch money the sum of £4:12.

Resolved also that the Treasurer pay to John Fish the sum of £83:6:8, deducting what he has received on his first payment.

September 22. Resolved by the Board that the Clerk draw orders on the Treasurer to pay the following accounts: Adrian Bradt £13:16; John Gansevoort 8s.

Resolved also that at the next General Election of Officers of the City, that there be an additional Constable elected in each ward.

At a Common Council held at the City Hall of the City of Alban on Thursday the 29th of Septr, 1774-Present, the Mayor, John H. Ten Eyck, Esq., Recorder, Guyt G. Merselis, Robert Yates, John Ten Broeck, Thomas Hun, Henry Van Veghten, Abraham Ten Eyck, Leonard Gansevoort, Corns Van Schelluyne, Jacob Roseboom.

This day being appointed by Charter for electing Aldermen, Assistants, and Constables for this City, the same were chosen and returned as follows:

October 8. Resolved by this Board that the Treasurer pay to Peter Lansingh the sum of £6:3 and that the Clerk give an order for the same.

October 14. This day being appointed by Charter to qualify the several Officers of this Board, the following having taken the Oaths of Allegiance and Supremacy were also sworn to the due execution of their several offices:

Gerrit Van Sante Alderman for first ward; Henry Van Veghten, Jacob Roseboom, Assistants.

Robert Yates, Guyt G. Merselis, Aldermen for second ward; Jerh Van Renselaer, Assistant.

Thomas Hun, John Ten Broeck, Aldermen for third ward; Leonard Gansevoort, Assistant.

John Ostrander, High Constable; James Green, Jacob Kidney, Saml Pruyn Jun., Constables.

Resolved by this Board that the Mayor in behalf of this Board sign Articles of Agreement with Thomas Skidmore for sweeping the Chimneys and lighting the Lamps within this City.

Resolved also that the Clerk draw an order on the Treasurer to pay the second payment of the Dock to Jeremiah Tomkins, deducting what has already been paid, as also the fifty pounds to William Charles.

Ordered by this Board that Guyt G. Marselis, Robert Yates and Thomas Hun be a Committe to go too Hosack in order to inspect the road next Tuesday.

Resolved by this Board that the Clerk draw orders on the Treasurer to pay the following accounts: John Ostrander, Marchel, £15; the Consts for Sunday service £1:4; John Tingue 12s.; Benjamin Wallace 8s.; John T. Vischer £8:8; Michael Wagoner £3:19:6.

November 7. Abraham C. Cuyler Esq. produces a Commission appointing him Mayor of the City and Clerk of the Markets and Coroner for the City and County of Albany, who took the Oaths appointed by Law and was to the due execution of his several offices.

Cornelius Van Schelluyne and Abraham Ten Eyck were this day qualified for Assistants to this Board.

The Committee appointed by this Board to examine whether the road leading from Brattleborough in Cumberland County to Sanford could not. be continued upon a straight Line to the House of Peter Limmers in Little Hosick, Report that the same is practicable and that it will curtail the distance at least thirteen miles. It is therefore Resolved by this Board that the Commissioners appointed to lay out the said Road open it from Stanford to the House of Said Limmers before the Subscription money of this Board be paid, and that the Clerk furnish Mr. Malicha Church one of the Coms with a copy of this resolve.

Resolved that the Treasurer pay the City Watch their wages due to the 30th of Oct. last, being 6 months.

Resolved also that the High Conste appoint two of the Conste of this City to attend the Ferry during the Fair.

Resolved likewise that an Election be held on Fryday next in the second ward for chosing a Constable in stead of William Adams a non resident chosen the last Election-and the like in the third ward on the same day for choseing a Constable in the stead of Rolieff Cole who has left the City.

Resolved by this Board that the Treasurer pay to Peter Lansing five pounds and that the Clerk give an order for the same.

November 19. Agreeable to a former resolve of this Board Samuel Bellus was this day returned as a Constable for the second ward duly elected by the Inhabitants thereof on Fryday last.

Resolved by this Board that the Clerk draw orders on the Treasurer to pay the following accounts: John Ostrander 18s.; Jacob Cidney 18s.; Ostrander & Van Deusen 8s.; William Flansburg £1:12.

This Board have appointed John W. Wendell and William Van Sante for the first ward, Harmanus A. Wendell and Thos Witbeck for the second ward, Obadiah Cooper and Isaac I. Truax for the third ward, fire masters for the ensuin year who are to execute said office agreeable to an Ordinance for that purpose lately made and provided.

It is resolved that the Constables of each ward or any three of them do forthwith go to the Hospital and turn out and remove out of the same any person inhabiting therein with Baggage and Goods unless they voluntarily remove them without delay.

Peter W. Yates Esq. having taken the Oaths appointed by Law was sworn to the due execution of his office as Alderman for the first ward of this City.

December 7. Resolved by this Board that the Clerk draw an order on the Treasurer to pay Thomas Skidmore 19s.; Staats V. Santvort £4:9:8.

This Board have agreed with Mr. Abraham Eights to release to him a Lot of ground of about 36 feet front, fronting a small street and bounded north to the Lot lately bought by Jacob Van Schaick, the lenght as laid out by John Bleecker, he paying therefor at the rate Jacob Van Schaick bought said Lots and perpetual annual rent of six shillings; the sum of £50 part of the consideration to be paid at the execution of the deed and the remainder within eighteen months after the date of the said Deeds, he paying for the drawing of said Deeds.

Resolved that the Treasurer let John Radliff have three Skipple of wheat on account.

December 31. Resolved by this Board that the Treasurer pay the following accounts and that the Clerk give orders for the same: Peter De Wandlaer £11:0:3; Johannes Flansburgh £4:12; Peter Sharp £89:16:81. At a Common Council held at the City Hall of the City of Albany on Thursday the 5th day of January, 1775-Present, the Mayor, Robert Yates, Gerret Van Sante, John Ten Broeck, Thomas Hun, Guy G. Marselis, Leonard Gansevoort, Abraham Ten Eyck, Corns Van Schelluyne, Jer Van Renselaer, Jacob Roseboom.

Resolved by this Board that an Election be held in the third ward for chosing a Constable in the stead Reliff Cole who was chosen the last elec1 as he is disqualified to serve in that office.

Resolved also that the Treasurer pay to John Ostrander the sum of £2:12 in behalf of the two Constables who attended 13 Sundays in the

streets.

January 30. Resolved by this Board that the Clerk draw an order on the Treasurer to pay Bazil Francis six pounds for taking care of the Town Clock one year.

This Board have agreed with John Abbot to take care of said Clock @ £6 annum to commence the 1st of this inst.

This Board being informed that a number of the Freeholders and Inhabitants of Saratoga and other adjacent parts have lately presented or do soon intend to present a petition to the Gov and Council for a Patent or Grant for incorporating that part of the country into a Borough, &c. It is resolved by this Baard that as such a Grant will affect the Rights and Property of this Board, that a Caveat be entered and filed against the passing of such a Grant.

Resolved by this Board that the Clerk draw an order on the Treasurer to pay Tho Skidmore £3:10:6 for lighting the Lamps and materials found for the same. Also that he pay John Radliff for one year ringing the Bell and that said Radliff have 3 Skipples of wheat on acc.

Resolved likewise that the Treasurer pay Thos Hun £5:12 for one Barrel Oyl for the use of the Lamps.

It is also Resolved that the Treasurer pay to Malica Church the sum of £15 subscribed by this Board towards a Road lately made by said Church and others, and that the Clerk draw an order for the same.

February 6. Ebenezer Jessup this day presented a Petition with a Map annexed to this Board praying a grant for a piece of ground belonging to the Corporation, which is bounded as follows: Beginning at the

north end of Warran street and runing from thence N. 45° W. 58c. 251. (as the Needle pointed in the year 1765) to the north Bounds of a Tract of Ground granted to the Minister, Elders and Deacons of the reformed Protestant Dutch Church in Albany, thence along the said bounds 27° 30′ E. 44c. 501, to the eastern Corner thereof, thence farther along the said bounds S. 21° 30′ W. 2c. 501. to Queen street, thence along Queen street S. E. 14c. 801. to Warran street, thence along the same N. E. 15c. to the place of beginning, containing about 48 acres, excepting out of the same the Lands granted to Hageman, which being taken into consideration it is resolved that the same be granted on the following conditions: That all the streets which intersect this tract as laid out by this Board in the year 1765 be reserved out of the same; that the Square in which Hageman has two Lots released to him he pay twenty shillings for each acre, but that previous to the executing Deeds for the same, it is resolved that an actual survey and return be made of the said Lands.

This appoint Gerrit Van Sante, Robert Yates and Thos Hun to be a Committe to wait on the Supervisors of this County to request them to present to the Assembly the raising the sum of £100 to purchase a Bell for the County Court House and the expences of putting up the same.

February 11. Resolved by this Board that the Clerk draw an order on the Treasurer to pay Bastian I. Visscher the sum of £9:1 for repairing the Schenectady Road and for waggon hire. As also an order in favour of Wm Hun for 12s. 6d.

The Aldermen of the second ward return a Pole whereby it appears that Evert Evertse was duly elected Constable for said ward on the tenth of this inst. agreeable to a former resolve of this Board.

Agreeable to Advertisement the Docks were this day sold at Publick Vendue to William Pemberton for £103 untill the first day of January next for which he is to give this Board good security within a fortnight.

February 23. Resolved by this Board that the Clerk draw an order on the Treasurer to pay Abraham I. Yates £2:1.

Ordered by this Board that a warrant be drawn by the Clerk directed to the Assessors and signed by the Mayor, Recorder and Aldermen or the major part of them for ordering the sum of £160 to be raised from the Inhabitants &c. of this City pursuant to an Act for that purpose made and passed the 31st of January last, and that they make return thereof to this Board the 2d day of March next.

Resolved also that a Letter be wrote and signed by the Clerk to Messrs. Ten Eyck, Schuyler and Ten Broeck desiring them to profer a Bill to the House of Assembly in order to raise the sum of £100 on the Inhabitants of the City and County of Albany for the purpose of having a Bell hung in the Court House of the said City and County.

This Board concluding it necessary that Bounds of the Patent granted to Hendrick Van Renselaer and now belonging to the Corporation of the City of Albany ought to be run out, they have therefore agreed for the above purpose that Jeremiah Van Renselaer make a survey thereof and Guy G. Marselis and Abrm Ten Eyck, two of the members of the Corporation attend on him to see the survey performed and that they make a return thereof at the next Common Council.

The above three members are also authorized and impowered to collect from their Tenants at Schactekook the Fowles which are due and in arrear

to the Corporation and that they render a just account of the number they may receive in consequence of the above power and from whom. And also that the said members take a Copy out of the Records of this Board of all those persons who have had the priviledge granted them to cutt Logs off of the Corporations Land at Schactekook, which persons are to render an account on Oath of the Quantity they have cut and that the said members collect the money for the same.

March 2. Resolved by this Board that the Clerk draw orders on the Treasurer to pay the following accts: Lucas Van Veghten £2:3:2; John Van Tile 8s.; John McDonald £3:4.

The Assessors having this day returned a List of the Taxes for defraying the charges of the Night Watch in this City and lighting the Lamps in the streets thereof, It is Resolved that a Warrant be drawn directed to Henry Beasley, Collector, signed by this Board and that the City Seal be thereunto affixed in order for to collect the same, and that the said Henry Beasley give good security to the Chamberlain of this Board for the due performance thereof.

March 24. The following accounts were this day allowed and ordered to be paid by the Treasurer: Tekarias Van D Bogart 8s.; Daniel Degraaf 13s. 4d.

A Petition of Bowdewin Kip was presented to this Board praying a Lease for ever for a peice or parcel of Land adjoining Johannes Benneways Land at Schactecook. Ordered that Jerb Van Renselaer survey the same and make a return thereof to this Board, and that the prayer of the Petitioner shall be granted if this Board can agree with him for the rent. Resolved that the Treasurer let John Ostrander and John Radliff each have three Skipples of wheat on account.

April 13. Resolved by this Board that the Treasurer pay the City Watch six months wages computed from the time of the last payment.

April 19. Resolved that the Treasurer pay the following accts: Abraham Roseboom £5:14; John Ostrander and other, to be paid out of the Watch money, £2:18.

A Draft of a Letter to the Lieut Governor was brought in by Alda Robert Yates and Marselis who were appointed a Committe for that purpose, which being approved of, Ordered that the same be fairly copied and that the Mayor sign it in behalf of this Board.

Ordered by the Board that Guyt G. Marselis, Tho Hun and R. Yates be a Committe to confer with Doct Van Dyck in behalf of Peter Douw, who claims ground near the Rutten Kill upon leaving the matter in controversy between this Board and him to Arbitrators and that they report by the next meeting of this Board the result of their Conference.

May 4. Volckert P. Douw, Henry Bleecker and Abraham Yates in the name of a Committee of twenty-one persons called the Committee of Correspondence, Safety and Protection, waited on this Board with a request to this Board to establish a night watch of at least fifteen persons for the better preservation of the Peace within this City at these times of publick Commotions and Disturbance, which request this Board have taken into consideration and have resolved that they do not as a Board deem it
