REPORT OF THE LIBRARY DEPARTMENT OF THE N. E. A. DES MOINES, IOWA, JULY 5, 6, AND 8, 1921

RESOLUTION AS TO A. L. A. BOOKLIST

At the joint session of the Library department with the National council of teachers of English, Mr. Johnson Brigham, Librarian of the State historical library of Iowa, made the following announcement regarding The Booklist:

"The American library association publishes The Booklist as its official book buying guide. The new books included each month (October-July) are chosen by librarians as those most suitable for general use. The book notes are short and to the point and represent in every case a consensus rather than individual opinion. Classification number and catalog information are given for each title. All future numbers will contain a short list of books especially useful for high school libraries. The Booklist is published by the A. L. A. purely as an aid in book selection, especially for librarians and teachers. It is not a commercial venture; it is supported in part by an endowment fund. Will the Library section of the N. E. A. formally endorse The Booklist as an aid to book selection for school libraries ?"

The motion was made and seconded, that the Library department of the N. E. A. and the National council of teachers of English endorse The Booklist of the American library association and recommend its use as an aid in book selection, for use on the reading tables in all high schools and in courses of English as a basis of current book evaluation.
