Chap. 69.

An Act to legalize the assessment and colloction of taxes in the town and county of
Marathon.

The People of the State of Wisconsin, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows :

SECTION 1. The tax list of the town and county of Marathon for the year eighteen hundred and fifty, is hereby declared to be valid and legal to all intents and purposes.

SEC. 2. The time prescribed by law, within which the town, county and state taxes, for the year eighteen hundred and fifty, are required to be collected, is hereby extended until the first day of April next, in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and fifty one.

SEC. 3. This act shall take effect on and after its passage.

Chap. 70.

An Act to incorporate the Packwaukee Bridge Company.

The People of the State of Wisconsin represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. J. E. Cook, S. A. Pease, John G. King, Edward D. Pattengell, and such other persons as are or may be associated with them, are hereby created a body corporate in law, by the name and style of the Packwaukee Bridge Company, for the purpose of constructing a bridge across Buffalo lake, on sections twenty and twenty-nine of township fifteen north of range nine east in the county of Marquette; and said Company may, in their corporate name, sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded in any courts in this state, and may have a common seal, and may change the same at pleasure.

SEC. 2. The said J. E. Cook, S. A. Pease, John G. King and Edward D. Pattengell, or such other persons as they may appoint, are hereby constituted commissioners to receive subCommissioners scriptions to the capital stock of said Company, and shall open books at such times and places as the said commissioners shall appoint, until the capital stock of said Company is taken.

SEC. 3. The said Company shall have power to build said bridge across Buffalo lake on sections twenty and twenty-nine of township fifteen of range nine east at any point they may select, and to take so much land as may be necessary for that purpose: Provided, No unnecessary damage shall be done thereby, and in case the said Company and the owners of the land can

not agree upon the price of said land, the said Company shall choose one appraiser and the owners of the land another, and the persons so chosen shall proceed to appraise the land, and in case the said appraisers cannot agree they shall choose a third person, and the price at which the said appraisers shall appraise the said land, shall be paid by the said Company to the owners

thereof.

SEC. 4. Said bridge shall not be less than twelve feet wide, and shall be constructed with a draw over the most navigable Draw to be kept. part of said lake, not less than one hundred and fifty feet wide, and the said Company shall attend the said draw so as to permit boats and vessels to pass through the same at all times free of charge and without unnecessary delay.

SEC. 5. The said Company shall have power after the completion of said bridge to demand and collect toll for passing the same as follows: For any vehicle drawn by two horses or oxen, twenty-five cents, and for each additional horse or ox five cents; for any vehicle drawn by one horse, ten cents; for a single horse, five cents; for all animals in droves of less than fifty, three cents each, and for all over fifty, two cents each: Provided, The said Company may charge a less rate of toll at their discretion.

SEC. 6. The said Company shall have power to make bylaws for the regulation of the concerns of said Company: Provi- Proviso. ded, That said by-laws shall not be repugnant to the laws of Wisconsin.

SEC. 7. The said Company shall keep posted up in some conspicuous place on the said bridge a list of the rates of toll to be paid for crossing.

SEC. 8. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

SEC. 9.

This act may be amended, altered or repealed by any future Legislature.

The People of the State of Wisconsin, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

An Act to amend an act entitled "An Act to incorporate the Winnebago Lake and
Fox river road company," approved March 13th, 1848.

The People of the State of Wisconsin represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. The board of directors and stockholders organized under the act of which this is amendatory, are hereby authorized to increase the capital stock of said company not to exceed one hundred thousand dollars, for the construction of a branch, extending to the Wolf river, to commence at such point on the Winnebago lake and Fox river road, and terminate at such point on the Wolf or Wisconsin rivers as said company may judge best.

SEC. 2. When five hundred shares shall be subscribed for the construction of the Wolf river branch road and one dollar paid in on each share, the said company shall be empowered to act, and are hereby authorized to construct said branch under the same regulations, liabilities, restrictions and privileges as are specified in the act to which this is amendatory.

SEC. 3. Said company is hereby authorized to keep separate books for the Wolf river branch road, and to declare dividends, and all stock issued for the same shall be the stock of the Wolf river branch of the Winnebago lake and Fox river road, and they may have and are hereby authorized to create Separate organ- at their discretion a separate board of directors, and to have a President, Secretary and Treasurer for the said branch to be created by the stockholders in said branch, on the same conditions as provided for the creation of the board in the act of which this is amendatory. An Act to appropriate to the County of Racine the sum of money therein named.

The People of the State of Wisconsin represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. There is hereby appropriated to the County of Racine, out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated the sum of three hundred and eighteen dollars and forty cents in full payment and satisfaction for maintenance and support of Sylvester S. Parmlee and William Sellers, State prisoners confined in Racine County Jail, and for clothing, medicine and medicaal attendnce for said prisoners and for Thomas Fanning up to the time of the pardon of said prisoners.

The People of the State of Wisconsin represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SEC. 1. That there be and hereby is appropriated, out of any money in the State treasury not otherwise appropriated, to Lyman Chapin the sum of seventy dollars, in full for the interest due on canal bond numbered fifty-four up to December twenti eth, eighteen hundred and fifty; and also the further sum of one thousand and thirty-five dollars to be paid on or after the twentieth day of June next, in full for the principal and interest of said bond:-Upon the surrender of the bond above. mentioned to the State Treasurer, together with the coupons accompanying the same.

An Act to set apart and incorporate the County of Waushara.

The People of the State of Wisconsin represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. That all that section of country lying and being within the following described boundaries, to wit: Commencing at the south-east corner of township eighteen (18) of range thirteen (13) east, running thence north on the range line to the north-east corner of township twenty (20), thence west on the north line of township twenty (20), to the range line dividing ranges seven (7) and eight (8), thence south on said line to the south-west corner of township eighteen (18), thence east on said line to the place of beginning,-shall be and is hereby set apart and incorporated as the county of Waushara, and the county seat of said county is hereby temporarily located at the village of Sacremento.

SEC. 2. It shall be lawful for the legal voters at the next
