AN ACT to amend an act entitled "An Act to provide for and regulate Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin as follows: SECTION 1. That, hereafter, the General Elections authorized by law, for this Territory, shall be held on the fourth Monday of September in each and every year, and so much of the act, to which this is an amendment, as prescribes the time of holding the annual Elections, is hereby repealed. SEC. 2. This act shall take effect from and after its passage. No. 2. AN ACT to divide the towns of Kinnikennick and Lisbon, and to change the name of Prairie Village. nick. SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Council and House of Franklin set off Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin, That all that from Kinnikin part! of the town called Kinnikennick, in the county of Milwaukee, which is comprised in township five north in range. twenty-one east, shall be and the same is hereby set off into a separate town by the name of Franklin. SEC. 2. All that part of the town of Lisbon in the county of, Menomonee set Milwaukee, which is comprised in township eight north in range off from Lisbon. twenty east, shall be, and the same is, hereby, set off into a separate town by the name of Menomonee. SEC. 3. The towns of Franklin and Menomonee shall severally be entitled to and enjoy all the rights and privileges which be called Prairieville. Prairie Village to SEC. 4. That the name of [the] town of Prairie Village, comprising township numbered six of range numbered nineteen in the county of Milwaukee is hereby changed to Prairieville, and by that name shall hereafter be known and called to have the same powers and privileges it now has. SEC. 5. This act to take effect from and after the first day of March next. No. 3. AN ACT to establish a Territorial road from Madison to Frankfort in SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislative Assembly of the Territory of Wisconsin, That Hamilton Stevens, Charles M. Rogers, and Eber Peck be authorized to lay out and establish a Territorial road, commencing at Madison, the seat of government of the Territory, and extending thence, by the nearest and most direct route, to Frankfort, in the county of Dodge. SEC. 2. That said Commissioners be required to lay out and establish said road agreeably to the provisions of an act entitled "an act to provide for laying and opening Territorial roads," approved, January 3, 1838. SEC. 3. That Section five of an act entitled "an act to provide for laying out and establishing Territorial roads therein named," approved Dec. 13, 1838, be and the same is hereby repealed. SEC. 4. The said Commissioners shall proceed to lay out and establish said road in the manner above prescribed within three months from the passage of this act, and not thereafter. AN ACT to amend an act entitled "An Act to provide for a Territorial Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin as follows: SECTION 1. The County Commissioners of each of the Commissioners. counties of this Territory shall furnish the Treasurer of the Duties of County Territory immediately after the return, perfection, acceptance. and filing of the assessment roll, for their respective counties, a statement, under their hands and seals, and certified by their Clerk, of the amount of taxes for the current year, together with the sum, which will be due from said county to the Territory, for that year; and the Commissioners of any county, who shall neglect or refuse to furnish such statement, for sixty days, after the said assessment roll shall have been filed, shall be liable, in their individual capacity, for the amount due from said county to the Territory, for such year; and shall, moreover, be assessed in damages of twenty-five per cent, to be recovered in the same manner, as other like fines and forfeitures are, or may be, by law recoverable. SEC. 2. The second section of the act, entitled "an act to provide for a Territorial Revenue," is hereby repealed. Approved, Dec. 20th, 1839. No. 5. AN ACT to provide for the construction of a bridge across the Mil waukee River. sioners required bridge. SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Council and House of County Commis Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin, That the Board to build drawof County Commissioners of the county of Milwaukee are hereby authorized and required to locate and construct, or cause to be located and constructed, a good and substantial drawbridge, across the Milwaukee River, in the town of Milwaukee, from the foot of Chesnut street, on the west side, to the foot of Division street, on the east side thereof. SEC. 2. The said Commissioners shall make, or cause to be Expenses. made, a plan, and estimate of the cost of said bridge, and shall file the same in the office of their clerk, on, or before, the first day of May next, and at the time of levying the county tax for the years eighteen hundred and forty and eighteen hundred when to be levied and forty-one, shall include in the tax for each of said years one half of such sum as may be required for the construction of said bridge.
