[From Newburyport Herald, 1897.] 66 "A strange find was made by workmen engaged in digging a sewer trench on Inn street, Saturday, when they unearthed a gravestone some six feet below the surface. The inscription was plain, and read as follows: Abigail Noyes, wife of Jacob Noyes, died Sept. 25, aged 52 years-1796." There is no clew to its history, although the name is a common one in old Newbury. 78—SAMUEL 1-21. Son of Cutting and Elizabeth (Toppan), was born in Newbury, 1706; married Martha Smith, 1734. They were both admitted to full communion in the First Church of Newbury, 1737. He was a butcher by trade. He died in 1769, and the widow married Capt. Gideon Wardwell, 1772.
