The third article was then taken under consideration and the following Preamble and Vote was introduced by Mr. Stark which passed 32 to 20 Whereas the Selectmen of Manchester have been cited to appear at the court of Sessions to be holden at Amherst on the first Tuesday of September 1823 to shew cause why a road should not be laid out and opened on a straight line from Perhams Bridge to Manchester meetinghouse but did not attend Therefore Voted That the Town clerk be instructed to present to the Committee of Hon. Court of Sessions the following reasons Viz. First The Road as now traveled is in good repair Second It is a road upon which there is no considerable public Travel. Third -No considerable saving in the distance will be made by the proposed alteration. Fourth The lots through which the road would pass would be badly cut up Fifth The Expenses of making said road would far exceed the advantages to be derived from any alteration. The Fourth article was then considered and it was Voted to dismiss it - The Town Clerk Read a Venire requiring him to cause one man to be appointed to serve as grand Juror at the Superior Court to be holden at Amherst on the first Tuesday of October next and one man to serve as petit Juror at the same court - and accordingly Nathan Jonson was drawn to serve as Grand Juror and John Stark Esq. was drawn to serve as petit Juror. Hall or his order 13 To see if the Town will vote to disannex John Dwinell and Elisha Quimby from Highway District No 5 and annex them to District No 3 and make the division between said districts at the crotch of the road below the Meetinghouse 14 To see if the Town will vote to Divide Highway District No 8 at the Bridge near Moors Mill and annex those on the north side of the brook to Highway District No 9 15 To take the sense of the legal voters of this Town whether the shire Town for the County of Hillsborough ought to be establish at Amherst or at Mont Vernon and in the warning and notification of said Meeting you are to post a copy of this warrant at the Meeting-house in said Manchester at least fifteen days before the time of holding the same and make return of this warrant with your doings thereon unto the Town Clerk or in his absence to the selectmen on or before the time of holding said Meeting — Given under our hands and seal at Manchester this twentyeth day of February A.
