Length of bridge, 2,453 feet; two cantilever spans 483 feet each, the longest of their kind in the world. The superstructure is of steel. Draw span 370 feet in length.
Can be opened or closed in three minutes by hand power. The five spans, forming cantilever system, extend from pier four to pier nine, a distance of 1,843 feet, making the
longest cantilever system ever constructed. Total weight, 11,000,000 pounds. This splendid structure, with its approaches, cost $1,500,000, and is a grand monument to the
enterprising citizens of Louisville and New Albany, who devised and carried out the financial plans for its erection. It is adapted for railway, street car, wagon way, and
pedestrian travel,
