The Journal of yesterday was being read, when, on motion of Mr. Cutler, the further reading of the same was dispensed with, and it was ordered to stand approved.

A message from the Senate by Mr. Paddock, Secretary:

Mr. Speaker-I am directed to inform the House of Representatives that the Senate has adopted the following preamble and joint resolution, in the adoption of which I am instructed to ask the concurrence of the House of Representatives, to-wit:

SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 6.

WHEREAS, A large number of persons were killed or injured by a tornado which swept through southern Illinois on the evening of Wednesday, March 18, 1925, causing great property damage and virtually wiping out several towns; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, by the Senate of the Fifty-fourth General Assembly, the House concurring herein, That the General Assembly desires to express its sympathy for the sufferers and their families and assist them as best it can in this great disaster which has come upon them, and that it is the sense of the General Assembly that an adequate appropriation should be made for the relief of these stricken people.

Adopted, March 19, 1925.

Mr. Speaker-I am directed to inform the House of Representatives that the Senate has passed a bill of the following title, in the passage of which I am instructed to ask the concurrence of the House of Representatives, towit:

SENATE BILL No. 242.

A bill for "An Act for the relief of persons in the, areas struck by the cyclone of March 18, 1925, and making an appropriation therefor." Passed by the Senate, March 23, 1925, by a two-thirds vote.

The foregoing Senate Bill No. 242, was taken up, read by title, ordered printed, and, by unanimous consent, on motion of Mr. Cutler, read at large a first time, and ordered to a second reading without reference.

SENATE BILL No. 162.

A bill for "An Act to amend the title of the Workmen's Compensation Act and to amend sections 3, 5, 7, 8, 12, 14, 16, 19 and 24 of the Workmen's Compensation Act, approved June 28, 1913, as amended." Passed by the Senate, March 19, 1925.

Mr. Lyon, from the Committee on Municipalities, to which was referred House Bill No. 291, being a bill for "An Act in relation to the regulation or the installation and alteration of electrical equipment."

Reported the same back with amendments thereto, with the recommendation that the amendments be adopted and that the bill, as amended, do pass.

The report of the committee was concurred in and the bill ordered to a first reading.

Mr. Lyon, from the Committee on Municipalities, to which was referred bills of the following titles, to-wit:

HOUSE BILL No. 292.

A bill for "An Act to amend section 60 of 'An Act in relation to the civil administration of the State government, and to repeal certain Acts therein named,' approved March 7, 1917, as amended, and to add section 9a thereto."

HOUSE BILL No. 293.

A bill for "An Act to amend section 1 of Article V of 'An Act to provide for the incorporation of cities and villages,' approved April 10, 1872, as amended."

Reported the same back with amendments thereto, with the recommendation that the amendments be adopted and that the bills, as amended, do pass.

The report of the committee was concurred in and House bills numbered 292 and 293 were ordered to a first reading.

Mr. Krump, from the Committee on Enrolling, Transcribing and Typing of Bills, reported that bills of the following titles have been correctly transcribed and typed and are returned herewith:

HOUSE BILL No. 58.

A bill for "An Act to amend sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 of 'An Act to enable school directors and boards of education to establish and maintain classes and schools for crippled children and providing for payment from State treasury of the excess cost of maintaining and operating such classes and schools over the cost of maintaining and operating schools for normal children,' approved June 17, 1923."

HOUSE BILL No. 70.

A bill for "An Act to provide for the construction of a monument in commemoration of the services of the Three Hundred Seventieth Infantry of the Ninety-third Division of the United States Army during the World War, and making an appropriation therefor."

A bill for "An Act making an appropriation for the purchase of a tract of land for an addition to Old Salem State Park."

HOUSE BILL No. 96.

A bill for "An Act to amend section 1 of 'An Act to provide for and fix the compensation of the members of the General Assembly of the State of Illinois,' approved December 6, 1907, as amended."

The foregoing bills numbered 58, 70, 72, 116, 201, 145 and 96 were placed in the order of House bills on third reading.

By unanimous consent, House Bill No. 109 was recalled from the Committee on Fish and Game and rereferred to the Committee on Appropriations, and House Bill No. 301 was recalled from the Committee on Judiciary and rereferred to the Committee on Municipalities.

The House proceeding on the order of introduction of bills, the roll was called for that purpose, whereupon Mr. A. O. Arnold introduced a bill, House Bill No. 330, a bill for "An Act to add section 36a to Article V of 'An Act to revise the law in relation to roads and bridges,' approved June 27, 1913, as amended."

The bil was taken up, read by title, ordered printed and referred to the Committee on Roads and Bridges.

Mr. Church, introduced a bill, House Bill No. 331, a bill for "An Act to amend sections 177 and 254 of an Act entitled, 'An Act for the assessment of property and for the levy and collection of taxes,' approved March 30, 1872, in force July 1, 1872, as subsequently amended." The bill was taken up, read by title, ordered printed and referred to the Committee on Revenue.

Mr. Church introduced a bill, House Bill No. 332, a bill for "An Act to provide for lump sales of real estate which are delinquent for the non-payment of taxes or special assessments of any character whatever levied thereon, and to regulate the rights of parties to such sales."

The bill was taken up, read by title, ordered printed and referred to the Committee on Revenue.

Mr. Douglas introduced a bill, House Bill No. 333, a bill for "An Act in relation to unincorporated businesses operating under a trade

name."

The bill was taken up, read by title, ordered printed and referred to the Committee on Judiciary.

Mrs. Elrod introduced a bill, House Bill No. 334, a bill for "An Act in relation to the purchase and construction by the State of Illinois
