PREFATORY NOTE.

completing the Fourth Volume of the Third Series the Editor has

again the pleasure of thanking the Patrons and Subscribers of the MISCELLANEA GENEALOGICA ET HERALDICA for the support given to the Magazine, and also the various Contributors whose Papers he has been enabled to publish. The Registers of Marriages at Maidstone were closed at the year 1754, having run through three Volumes.

To LORD HAWKESBURY he is indebted for the Pedigree of the Family of Hobson of York in 1675; and to Sir GEORGE ARMYTAGE, Bart., F.S.A., for the tablet commemorating the death of Maria Armytage, sister of Sir Thomas Arinytage, the sixth Baronet in 1736, when the title of 1641 became extinct. To Mr. C. E. COKAYNE, Clarenceux King-of-Arms, F.S.A., he is also much indebted for various Family Histories. The Compilers of the entries of Wandsworth Marriages, and of the Monumental Inscriptions in St. Marylebone Parish Church, have also largely contributed to the pages of the Magazine; and to various other Contributors he is indebted for interesting subjects, notably the account of the predecessors of Walter Savage Landor from 1575.

The Editor trusts to his able Contributors still to favour him with papers on family histories, antique bookplates, etc., and any other matter of an interesting genealogical nature. On account of declining health he hopes to be assisted by the kind co-operation of Mr. W. BRUCE BANNERMAN, F.S.A., the Treasurer of the Harleian Society, in the next volume, which will be the Fifth Volume of the Third Series.

31st January, 1902.
