1692, Dec. 13. SIR JOHN SHAW of Eltham, co. Kent, Bart, Widr, abt 33, & SARAH PAGGIN of St Mary Athill, Lond., Sp', abt 18, with consent of her uncle & guard" Mr Paggin, her parents dead; at St Mary Athill. (Marriage Allegations, Vicar-General.)

Sarah Paggin was daughter of William Paggin. "Mr Paggin" was Peter Paggen of East Hill, brother of William Paggen, who was buried in Mount Nod, Wandsworth. He died 15 June 1720, aged 69; and a fine of £2 10s. was paid, not being buryed in woolen" (Churchwardens' Accounts). His will is dated 2 Oct. 1717, and proved 15 July 1720. Legacies are left to Sir John Shaw, Bart., and niece Dame Sarah Shaw his wife; and to Paggen, Peter, Judith, and Katherine Shaw, four of their nine children, with ultimate remainder to Paggen Shaw.

In the will of Katherine Paggen, widow of Peter Paggen, dated 19 Jan. 1721 and proved 1 June 1724, one of her trustees is William Shaw, son of John Shaw, late of Cheshunt, co. Herts, deceased. She bequeaths legacies to Dame Sarah Shaw, widow of Sir John Shaw, and children. For marriage of daughter Catherine see 1712, April 29.

Sir John had married previously Margery, daughter and heiress of Sir John Peake, Knt., Lord Mayor of London, and had four children. From the eldest son the present Baronet is descended.]
