REVENUE LAWS. Acts relating to the Customs passed at the 1st and 2nd Sessions of the 22nd

Congress. An ACT concerning 'Tonnage duty on Spanish Vessels. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of Annerica in Congress assembled, Thai no other or g:eaier duty of tonnage be levied in the poits of the United States on vessels owned wholly by sub

jects of Spain, coming from a port in Spain, than shall, by the Secretary of libe Tre.sury be ascertained to have been paid: :American ressels in the por's of Sprin previous to the twentieth of October, one thousand eight bun. dred and seventeen.

Sec 2. And be it further enacted, That vessels owned wholly by Spanislı subj cis, comisig from any of the colonies of Spain, either directly or after touching at any other port or place, shall pay, in the ports of the United

Suate, the same rate of duty on tonnage that shall be levied on American vessels in the Sp: nish colonial port from whence such Spanish vessels shall have last deparied; the said amount to be ascertained by ihe Secret'iry of the Treasury, who is berely authorized, from time to time, to give directions to the officers of the cristonis of the United Siates for the collection of such

doties, so as to conform the said duties to any variation that may iake place in the duties levied on American vessels in such Spanish forts.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That wlienever the President shall be satisfied that the discriminating or counterviling duies of tonnage levied by any foreign nation on tlie ships or vessels of the United States, shall have been abolished, he may direct that the tonnage duty on the vessels of such nation shall cease to be levied in the poris of the United Staies; and cause

any duties of tonnage thai may have been levied on the vessels of such foreign nation, subsequent in the abolition of its discrimuna ing duties of tonnage 10 be refunded.

Suc. 4. And he it further enacted, That the second and third sections of this act shall be in force and take effect from and after the first day of January next.

An ACT to alter and amend the several acts imposing duties on Imports. Be it enucted by the Senale and House of Representatives of the Umted States of America in Congress assembled, That from and after the third day of

March, one thousand eight bundred and thirty three, so much of the act entitled “ An act in alleration of the several acis imposing duties on imports, approved the nineteenib May, one lousand eight hundred and twenty-eighi as is herein otherwise provided for, shall be repealed, except so far as the same may be necessary for he recovery and collection of all duties which shill have accrued under the said act; and for the recovery, collect 01, dis. tribution, and remission of all hnes, penalties, and forfeitures, which may have been incurred under the same.

Szc. 2. And be it further enacted, That, from and after the third day of March, one thousand pight hundred and thirty three, in lieu ofihe duties now imposed by law, on the importation of the articles hereinafter mentionell, there shal be levied, collecierl, and paid, the following duties, that is to say:

First: Wool, unmanufactured, the value where f, at the place of “xpor. ration, shall not exceed eight cenis per pound, sall he imported free of duty; fund if any wool so impo: ted shall be fine wool mixed with dirt or other maierial, and thus reduced in valut. 10 eight cents per pound, or under, the ap: praisers shall appraise sairt wnol al such price as in their opinion it would hard cost had it not been so mixed, and a duty thereon shall be charged in Iconformity with such appraisal ; on wool, unmanufactured, the value wherea

of cotion, or of which cotion shall be i componen part, not dyed, colored, grinter, or stained, not exceeding in value thirty cents the square vard, shali be valued at thirty cents per square yard, and if dyed, colored, printed, or stained, in whole or in part, not exceeding in value thiriy-five cenis the square yard, shall be valued at thirty-five cents per square yard ; aud ou nankeens, iniported direct from China, twenty per centum ad valorem.

Fourth' On ali stamped, printed or painted floor cloths, furiy-three cents a square vard; on oil cloihs of all kinds, other than that usually denominated patent floor cloth, iwelve and a half cents the square yard; and on floor matiing, usually made of Aags and other materials, five per cenum ad va oren.

Fifth. On iron, in bars or bolis, not manufactured in whole or in part by rolling, ninety cents per one hundred and twelve pounds.

Sixth. On bar and bolt iron, made wholly or in part by rolling, thirty doi. lars per 101 ; Providled, That all iron in slabs, blooms, or oiher form less finished than iron in bars or bolis, and more advanied than pig irori, except castings, shall be rated as iron in bars or bolts, and pay duty accordingly.

Seventh. On iron in pigs, filty cents per one hundred and twelve pounds : on vessels of cast iron, not oturswise specified, one and a lialf cents per pound; on all other castings of iron, not otherwise specified, one cent per pound.

Eighth. On iron or steel wire, not exceeding number fourteen, five cents per pound; esceeding number courteen, nine cents per pound; on silvereri or plated wire, five per centum ad valorem ; on cap or bonnet wire covered with silk, cottun, flaxen, yarn or thread, manufactured abroad, twelve cene le pound

Ninth. On round iron or braizer's rods, of three-sixteenths to eight-sixteenths of an inch diameter, inclusive, and on iron in nail or spike rods, or nail plaies, sit, rolled, or hammered, and on iron in sleets, and hoop iron, and on iron, slit, rolled, or hammered for band iron, scroll iron, or casenieni rods, three cents per pound; on iron spikes, four cents per pound; on iron nails, rut or wrought, five cents per pound; on tacks, brads, and sprigs, hol exceeding sixteen ounces to the thousand, five cents per thousand; excredo ing six teen ounces to the thousand, five cents per pound; on square wire, lused for the manufacture of stretchers for umbrellas, and cut pieces no
